While Dutch couldn’t actually teach Cora to fly right now, she was using the frame she’d made for her first flight class to teach the girl other things. She needed to get comfortable shifting her wings away at a moment’s notice, so until she seemed to have that under control, she had to walk up to the frame, shift her wings away and keep moving until she got it right. She needed practice with the shifting part too, not just working on building strength. Zevren was usually the one in charge of overseeing her flight classes, even with Cora. It didn’t matter if they were merely working on teaching her control over shifting her wings right now, she still had either Zev or a guard with her just in case. Today she had specifically asked for a guard because they were going to use flight class time for something else entirely. She had needed a broomstick for today’s lesson and she would rather have a guard with them the whole time than get in trouble for it later. Even if it was just the handle she really needed. When she had explained the purpose of the broom, he was kind enough to agree. Especially since she really wasn’t planning on using it as some sort of staff weapon and beat the shit out of anyone. Once they reached a nice clearing in the woods, where they were less likely to be interrupted by other residents, or have people think she was teaching her niece to fight, Dutch gently ruffled Cora’s hair. “If I hit you, it’s only because you didn’t react fast enough. I’ll try to go slow. I know you don’t want to learn to fight yet, so I’m only going to teach you dodging so you can get away if someone tries to hit you, without shifting,” she told her, smiling at the girl. Thankfully, she seemed to nod and understand, so Dutch wasn’t overly worried. “Duck or jump, that’s all you have to do and I’ll tell you which for a while until you get the hang of it. And after this, I’ll give you some exercises to do in the morning that might help calm your mind so it’ll be easier to control yourself if you get angry,” she said. While she hadn’t worked a whole lot with her niece on how to stay calm and avoid letting the fury in her loose, she had learned about the fire incident from Cora herself so it seemed important to teach her some techniques to calm herself too. Sure, at Cora’s age, Dutch used fight training to keep herself in control, but since she had promised herself, Cora and staff she wasn’t going to teach the girl to fight, it seemed worth it to try other techniques. “Duck,” she said, before half-heartedly swinging the broom at shoulder height for Cora. Thankfully, the girl ducked so she couldn’t help but smile. Dutch wasn’t swinging hard, just in case she hit the girl, but they kept at it for a good ten minutes before she stopped telling her whether to jump or duck and it worked out fine for a bit. She figured Cora was getting tired when she wound up hitting her leg. Putting the broom down, she walked over and hugged Cora tightly. “I’m sorry,” she said, pleased when the girl piped up with a “‘m ok”. At least she wasn’t as fragile as she looked, that was good to know. Even if she had kind of suspected as much. She didn’t exactly come from a line of wusses. “Alright, we’ll spend the rest of the time allotted for your class on exercises you should do daily,” she informed her. Cora needed to learn some breathing exercises and stretching exercises. It seemed like the best bet to help her calm her mind if she was adamant about not wanting to learn how to fight. Half an hour later, she was sure the girl had the exercises down. “It’ll help you later in life too, not just to calm yourself right now. So keep at it and next time we’ll add a few things if you’d like.” Turning to the guard, she handed the broomstick over. “Take her back to her next class? I’ll be back to the main building in a bit, I need to get a little flight exercise in myself first.” Once she was on her own, Dutch shifted out her wings and took to the sky. Part of her wanted to look for Julius, but she figured he was probably busy. It was the middle of the day after all, so she shouldn’t disturb him if he was working. Instead, wound up flying above the forest, sticking close to the treetops, in a few wide circles just surveying the landscape beneath her for a moment and watching her niece get back to the Academy safely before she descended back into the forest and settled on a branch. She’d head back in in a minute, she just needed some time to think about the best way to trick the girl into learning to defend herself. Everybody needed to know more than how to avoid a fight in her mind.

Unlike other types of Fae, Kieran was not one for the forest. However, he also was not a fan of the guards watching him, either. As a result, the Dullahan decided to take a walk in the forest. Unfortunately for Kieran, some bird-person flying above the trees also had a similar idea. He would tolerate them for now though.
Unless they threatened the Unseelie Fae with gold or tried to knock his head off, that is. As a Dullahan with a gold allergy and a detachable head that revealed his true form, such actions were unforgivable. Kieran proceeded to walk into the forest while keeping an eye out for aerial ambushes. The last thing he needed was for the bird-thing to dive-bomb him.

Dutch had settled nicely on her branch, hiding her wings away again. It was one of the older trees that had survived the previous year’s fire without too much damage so the branch was strong enough to carry her weight despite not being one of the lower branches. She figured she could easily drop down without injury if she wanted to, but it’d be pretty hard for someone who couldn’t fly to jump up to grab her. In other words, she was perfectly safe where she was. Which was probably why she’d picked some acorns and was absentmindedly tossing them to the ground, no caring in the slightest if she hit someone. Though if she were to accidentally hit the Dullahan wandering the forest below, she wouldn’t be particularly sad either. She was just in a contemplative mood and lost in her own thoughts for the time being. After all, the only places she could truly let her guard down enough to get lost in thought, aside from around the dragon or her locked room, was somewhere people couldn’t easily reach her. She was starting to think it might be time to really sort through some things with her counselor again. Like really talk, dig through some things, not just talk about superficial things like how her days were going or how things were going with Cora. For now, however, she remained seated where she was, almost hoping to accidentally hit the face below.

As Kieran made his way through the forest, he began to relax somewhat. Despite seeing the bird-thing earlier, they had yet to attack him. Instead, the Dullahan was left to continue his walk. However, that did not last long. Kieran suddenly found himself in a deluge of acorns.
Like the vast majority of Unseelie Fae, he was somewhat vindictive. While the Dullahan couldn't throw a bucket of blood on his acorn-throwing assailant, he could still retaliate. Kieran grabbed some of the acorns on the ground and began flinging them upwards, using the angle at which they hit him as a rough guide. Although this was different to flinging buckets of blood or flicking someone's eyes out with a human spine whip, he still had very good aim.

Acorns were such harmless things to throw, but since she didn’t really know the person below and didn’t have her knives, it seemed like a better option to pass time. Besides, since she didn’t know whether or not this person was actually a ‘bad person’ it would’ve been premature to throw knives even if she’d had them. And she didn’t have to go down to collect the acorns later on. They belonged in nature and was no loss to her after all. When the first acorn hit her, Dutch couldn’t resist the chuckle that escaped her. Clearly, her random throwing of acorns had hit the person below and she was pleased about that. She moved from where she was sitting so she was dangling her feet from the branch. “I’m impressed,” she called down, flinging one last acorn for good measure. She hadn’t expected to actually get hit herself and she really was both amused and impressed that this creature had managed just that. Now the question remained, should she come down from where she was lounging or just remain in the tree? It seemed safer for everyone if she stayed where she was, but it also seemed a little too boring. If she was being honest with herself, she was kind of tired of boring right now. Even if staying out of trouble was a big deal if she wanted to be allowed to keep teaching. “Be honest,” she started. “If I come down from here, are you going to be a good little whatever you are and play nice? Or are you going to start a fight and get us both locked away?”

Kieran continued throwing acorns until whoever was in the tree spoke. Evidently, he'd hit the stranger. "It's second nature," the Dullahan replied, his strong Irish accent colouring his words. Kieran wasn't expecting the thing in the tree to stop so quickly, but he was glad they did. Otherwise, he would have gotten angry and he was rather unpleasant when he got angry.
"That depends on what you do next," the Unseelie Fae told the stranger. "If you do something else stupid, I'll retaliate. I don't start fights, I just finish them."

Dutch was amused by this whole situation. Not just that she’d hit someone with her own acorns, but that they’d managed to hit her back with them. She’d been bored, but this was definitely an interesting turn of events. It seemed pointless to keep throwing acorns now that they were aware of each other because things could easily escalate and that would be bad. Oh, so he was a finisher of fights was he? “You try to finish a fight I didn’t intend to start and we’ll have a real problem,” she said, chuckling slightly as she stood up on the branch. Rolling her shoulders for a moment, she shifted her wings out again and jumped down from the branch, using her wings only to slow her descent so she’d land softly before shifting them away again. Needless to say, if he tried to ‘finish’ something he misinterpreted as a fight, she’d find his weakness, use it against him and make away with something he held dear. “For the record, if I’d actively tried to hit you and not just thrown acorns, I would’ve thrown a lot harder,” she said, as she picked up a twig and used it to hold her hair in somewhat of a bun. This place was setting off all her instincts on a daily basis, but she’d say she was staying out of trouble rather nicely by sparring with guards, spending time on the forge with Julius or flying. It didn’t completely satisfy her, but that little itch was a small price to pay for being out of the basement. Maybe it was time to look for a regular sparring partner again to just to fill the time really. That was part of her problem after all, that she had too much free time at times and it just wasn’t good for her.

Kieran raised an eyebrow as he got a glimpse of the girl's wings. She was obviously the bird-thing he had seen earlier. The Dullahan also had an inkling that she was not well-versed in how the Fae worked, especially the Unseelie court. Kieran had met ignorant people before, but they had just been regular mortals. The concept of an ignorant supernatural being was new to him.
"Whether you intend to start a fight doesn't matter. If you start a fight, I'll finish it," the Unseelie Fae stated calmly. Kieran leaned against a nearby tree while keeping his icy, blue-grey eyes on the bird-girl. "That doesn't mean it isn't likely to piss someone off," he pointed out.

Dutch had dealt a lot with fae in her life. Hell, she’d been employed by a leprechaun for half a century and killed countless more. The courts didn’t interest her at all, if someone was a bad actor it never mattered why. If they caught her interest, they were usually easily disposable with the right tool. In this case, however, it wasn’t obvious just what his would be. If she scrambled though, she had her gold bracelet with stones in it that could be used to strangle someone, a Bobby-pin that could be used to puncture a major vessel if she jabbed hard enough, her shirt for a harmless strangulation, and whatever else she could find in the woods. So she wasn’t worried. “It’s cute that you think that,” she replied, smiling slightly. Satisfied that no matter what exactly he was, she’d faced something similar before. “Tell me,” she said, finding a tree to lean against. “Do you automatically assume you wouldn’t be the one finished solely because I’m female?” She asked, curious about that. It seemed like a valid point after all. “Anyone likely to blow a fuse over a few acorns shouldn’t be allowed outside of the basement,” she commented off-handedly. So far, he seemed perfectly reasonable to her, but if that changed she was likely to just fly away because she couldn’t afford the trouble. Not until her niece could take better care of herself at the very least. Then she wouldn’t be putting her in danger by being reckless herself.

Trust her to pull the gender card. Just hearing the question made Kieran roll his eyes in annoyance. "You're as bad as the normies," he groaned, shaking his head. "Not everything is about gender, you know," the Dullahan pointed out. "I'm not assuming anything, I just know my own track record."
"And there's the rub, some people don't handle ignorant berks very well," Kieran replied with a shrug. This girl had a lot to learn, especially when it came to the Fae. He wasn't about to get involved in a fight with her, though. The Unseelie Fae was simply giving her his own brand of advice.

Considering this guy knew nothing about her other than that she had wings, it was a fair assumption that he based his assessment that he'd win solely on the fact that she was a woman. Because he knew nothing about her age, skills or record. "And based on your own track record, knowing nothing else, you assume you'll be the one finishing things..." she said, shrugging slightly. "Guessing that means you're fae with some sort of weapon glamoured, or your gifts are more offensive than defensive. Either way, good to know." She wasn't ignorant, just utterly disinterested in his view of himself. Maybe that was arrogant of her, but she'd put down far too many creeps in her life to be easily impressed at this stage. Dutch snickered at his words, unable to help herself really. "Clearly, you never attended high society gatherings. Best way to gather intel is to act ignorant. Innocent, naive and ignorant are the best ways to get someone to spill something about themselves." Dutch could act proper daft at times when that was the best way to acquire any kind of knowledge. "People love believing they're holding all the cards." This place was getting on her nerves. No matter how long she behaved, it didn't seem like she was getting her risk lowered further anytime soon. "I feel like going somewhere and picking on an undying man. You care to kill someone who'll spring back to life just for a little amusement?"

Kieran raised an eyebrow at her response. The girl's deduction wasn't that far off. However, he was not about to let her know just yet. "Like I said, it's not an assumption," the Dullahan replied. "Not bad, but that's for me to know and you to guess."
Kieran shrugged in response to her words. Innocent and naive yes, but in the circles I'm in, ignorance is a big no-no. Unless you wanna be tortured, cursed or otherwise die horribly. It could also put your loved ones at risk." He was certain she had not encountered a Fae before. "Most of the time, the people that think they're holding all the cards actually are."
"It's not one of my usual targets. I like things that stay dead when I kill them."

For him to know and her to guess... yeah, that along with what little information he’d given beforehand made her think fae rather than gifted. Sure, gifted humans could be clever and good with words, but in her experience, fae were smarter when it came to how to answer questions. Probably related to some of them being able to curse people and others genuinely being tricksters. Made sense they would be smart about their word choices in that case. His next words made her smirk slightly though. “My dear fae, you just gave yourself up. Your kind is just a matter of the right metal, then you fall as easily as humans. My old employer has a horrible iron allergy, needless to say he taught me a lot.” Dutch wasn’t making any moves though, she wasn’t actually interested in killing this guy right now. It would undo all the hard work she’d done in the last year and that seemed like a total waste. “Not to worry, I like flying too much to try to knock your head off of your shoulders and stick it on a spike. Don’t particularly want to move back into the basement.” She wasn’t getting out of here anytime soon if she started fights with people. “I prefer things to stay dead too, but if he doesn’t stay dead, there’s no evidence of foul play. Especially since he can be bribed with drinks or drugs to keep quiet.”

"Nah, you just guessed. Actually, we don't. Too bad for him." Luckily for Kieran, gold was slightly less common than iron. "I like my head where it is. I doubt anyone does, unless they're into that sort of thing."
He couldn't help but chuckle at her next comments. "When I kill someone, it doesn't leave evidence, other than what the normies find. He sounds a bit gullible."

Dutch was going to let the man believe what he wanted to believe, aside from one little thing. “It’s called deduction, not guessing,” she said, a little tired of him thinking he knew everything. He seemed the sort to only trust his own gut and not everything else, but so far she was pretty sure he knew nothing about her other than that she could fly and liked to fight. She’d call that a win, having the upper hand, what have you. And fae really were just about the right weapon in her experience. Use it to lop off a head, or in cases that didn’t work, cut out their heart. Or just stab it to pieces. But somehow cutting it out had always made for a better trophy and easier way to get paid than bringing the whole body or a picture of it. “Most people do,” she commented. Yeah, most people did like their heads right where it was and didn’t like the idea of it getting chopped off. Especially since most people died from it. Didn’t make it any less satisfying when she could get away with beheading someone. Sadly, times had changed drastically, putting them on spikes was a tad bit outdated. “He’s gullible and doesn’t mind dying for a few hours. Needless to say, he is an easy target. But suit yourself, I’m gonna go play with him regardless.” If he wasn’t going to join her, that was his loss, she just wanted to get a few punches in for the day, and whether that was practiced on Wolf or in the gym, it didn’t really matter all that much to her. Pushing away from the tree, she started walking back towards the academy. She didn’t really need to fly back after all, so her wings were neatly shifted away. It seemed like the guards did appreciate it more if she just walked anyway.
