Chez wasn't quite sure what was going on, he was being taken someplace but he didn't know where. 'The lake' meant absolutely nothing to him other than being a word that he knew related to something he'd never seen before. They'd told him to stay calm, they didn't want to hurt him, all of these soothing and kind words but still he'd thrashed and fought against being put into the smaller water filled box that he was eventually put into anyway, something had lifted him in a ball of water just bigger than his body and deposited him surprisingly gently into a dark 'box' that lurched into motion as soon as soon as a dark lid was placed on top and he was left in darkness. That was frightening enough, he just sank to the bottom of the small tank and wrapped his arms around his face, his long tail wrapping around his body in an effort to make himself as small as possible.
He was peeking through a small gap, but he closed his eyes tightly as soon as the lid began to slide open and light brighter than anything he'd ever seen before filtered through the small gap before pouring in and engulfing him. He whimpered and tightened his eyes even more so, but then the thing he was in was tipping, and there was nothing for him to hold onto to keep himself from spilling out along with the large rush of water. He feared he'd hit solid floor and be unable to do anything but just lay there and suffocate slowly, but he crashed into cooler waters and instantly the boy wriggled his way slightly deeper and blindly until he was a few meters beneath the surface of the lake floating a feet above the lake bed as he stared up at the bright light of the sun that filtered down through the water.
It took him a moment to realise that the bed of the place he was in wasn't smooth and spotless, it was rough looking, particles moving from the movement of his tail in the water. Easily disturbed. Chez bent over to splay his hand out in the ground, ignoring the voices on the shore because they meant little to nothing to him right now when there were more important things to be looking at. He didn't think he was being spoken too directly anyway, even if he was he was too delighted with his new surroundings. After feeling the soft yet rough texture he laughed and quickly took to rolling around in the mix of dirt, sand and rock with absolute delight, enjoying the feel of the scrub like stuff against his scales.
He paid no heed to the cloud he was creating in the water, or the fact that he was most likely calling quite a bit of attention to himself. There had never been others other than his master around before, so why would there be now?

Today had started out like any other day. Until she learned they were having company in the lake. It made her really excited. Part of her had wanted to meet this 'Chester' kid in his tank beforehand, but she decided it might be for the best to meet him in the lake and so she was anxiously waiting for him to arrive instead. She was busy hiding her treasure in the underwater cave, just so they'd be dry and nowhere near where this kid would go. After all, she'd heard he'd never been above water before, so she wasn't sure he could even breathe air just yet.
When the tank was dumped into the lake and the kid along with it, Ida was laying on the bottom of the lake just watching his reaction to being surrounded by water. It was absolutely adorable! When he started creating a cloud in the water scrubbing himself against the sand like that, she swam a little closer, but stayed in the grass nearby.
"Feels good, doesn't it?" she asked, stayed just far enough away not to get the sand in her face. "You'll be wonderfully refreshed," she added, sitting up so she'd be a little more easier to spot. It felt good to get rid of dead scales like that. "I'm Ida, and you are absolutely the cutest thing I have ever seen," she was staying put though, in case he freaked out about not being alone.

He was in absolute heaven as he wriggled, but soon enough he found the rough surface of a large stone in the lake's floor and he seemingly flopped onto it to run his side over it, unaware of the woman so close by to him. He hadn't noticed quite how much space there was around him, or the extent as to just how much freedom he had in this very moment. He was too enamored with the different textures and familiarities that he didn't remember but felt so right. The warmth that drifted through the waters from the light above him, so bright and blue. If it hadn't been for the inviting lake bed he would have stared up at it for quite a long time, but now that was clouded from the debris he'd made rise from the bottom with his actions. He didn't care though, he was just enjoying himself and right now that was all that mattered. This was marvellous.
When Ida's voice rang out though he froze and ducked close to the floor like somebody had dropped an anchor on him, his eyes wide and peering through a thin curtain of his own hair, he possibly needed a little trim but that was far beyond his thoughts right now as the sand began to settle and his sharp gaze landed on the shining scales of something.. Somebody..? Not used to being in such open waters running never occured to him, not that he'd get too far anyway, compared to other creatures like himself he doesn't have the experience of swimming over distances. He doesn't have the muscle mass for such a thing, he'll exhaust himself.. Neither did he particularly want to collide with a glass wall, that hurts. So he stayed put, the sediment around him settling slowly now he was still.
Where his scales shon darkly she was brighter and slowly he lifted himself up just a little as curiosity got the better of him, she wasn't approaching and so there was no need for him to worry too much here and now. She was special too.. Was this his new friend? The one he'd been hoping for for a couple of years..? An Ida. She was an Ida. He smiled slightly, shyly, his curiosity evident though, "you can breathe underwater too.. Is this your room?" And it was called 'the Lake' he could remember that. It made him want to name his own place, but what? All he has are some pictures. His picture room, he'll have to collect more. It was better than nothing. He made a little face at being called cute but his fingers filtered through the sand beneath them and his attention was distracted as he found a small broken twig that he picked up and twirled between his fingers, "you have strange toys.. I'm Chester! I'm an Ick.. Ickthee.. Icktheeocentaur, see!" He pushed himself up just a foot with the horselike front legs of his and did a little twirl in the water, his long dark tail cutting through smoothly and a grin on his face.
Then he stopped, just facing her again with head cocked lightly to the side expectantly. Her turn.

Ida hadn’t spent a lot of time around children since she’d left her family. She’d never had any herself and had stayed away from human children as they’d just been a delicacy when she’d first moved about on land and knowing how much her family adored their own kids it seemed unfair to eat children. Especially since nobody ate the male children born to them but returned them to the land people safely. Once she’d been living with vampires, children had been food. But only because they’d already been drained and killed by the vampires and she got to choose between the leftovers. A kid was simply easier to finish before they went bad, it was the only reason she’d chosen them over others. And there weren’t that many children in Manson. Thankfully Ida just wanted to protect this one though and help him out. He was a water creature and heaven help anyone who hurt him based on that alone.
Watching him now, it seemed like he’d never been outside of his tank and that alone made her kind of sad. Children should get to play around in big spaces. Thankfully, there was a lake on the grounds he could play with. And hopefully, he’d be convinced he could play on land too given enough time. But for right now, she was just going to help him get used to the lake.
It seemed safer to stay put while he realized he wasn’t alone. She didn’t want to scare him or appear as a threat because she wouldn’t hurt a hair on his head. “I live here, but I have a room at the academy for land stuff,” she replied, smiling slightly at him. She hadn’t felt comfortable moving into her room completely, but it was a good place for her to do her studies and go between her classes. Sleeping there really only happened when she had company and sleeping wasn’t the first thing on her mind.
“Nice to meet you Chester, I haven’t met an ichthyocentaur since I was a little girl,” she informed him, happy to have him in the lake with them really. She watched him as he did a little twirl like that and smiled at him. When it became clear he wanted her to show him too, she winked at him. “Watch this,” she said as she pushed off from the lakebed and towards the surface. She’d gotten enough speed on her way up to break the surface with all of her and dive under again before she came to a halt near the kid. “I’m a siren,” she offered. “I was told you were coming and to help with whatever you need. This place is a lot bigger than your tank, and no walls, so if you want to practice swimming in a big space, you can swim as far as you can see water. Want to stretch your tail a little? Or just finish scrubbing yourself clean first?” she asked, wanting him to set the pace really. This was his experience after all.

Chester wasn't sad about always having been confined, he has absolutely no memories of what he could be missing. He has little to no understanding of the outside world but he's also recklessly fearless because of his youth, why should he be worried about anything when he's never met any real obstacles in his life? Never experienced an injury, never had anybody be anything close to 'mean' to him. The only reason he's ever seen blood was from when he lost some of his baby teeth.. Slightly sharper than human frontal teeth, which had grown back obviously. He's a big boy now, they were grown up teeth. Whilst he may not be sad about it though he was curious. He'd oftened wondered where his Master had got all of those other people from, all of the different special people that he cared for. The outside must have been a lot bigger than he'd ever thought it could be.. Like maybe even a thousand times bigger than his tank! It was quite an amazing thought.
He didn't quite understand what she meant when she said she lived here but she had another room elsewhere so his mind kind of skirted right past that idea. Especially since she'd mentioned both land and the water so how on earth was he supposed to comprehend something that just wasn't possible. It was nice though, nice to see somebody who wasn't quite like him but similar in the sense that they had scales, fins and the ability to breathe and speak beneath the surface of the sea and be heard. Master had always needed a special little machine to press against his glass to hear him, this was a new experience and he was excited at all of the possibilities this meant. Somebody to constantly talk too! How exciting was that?
It was what she said next that made him stop and blink somewhat in surprise. She'd met another of his kind before? How? He'd never even met another one, Master had always said he didn't know if there were anymore. Thankfully she was moving in the next moment and so his mind jumped on that with wonder as she shot up, he watched close to awe as she rocketed towards the surface and a hint of panic rushed through him, she wasn't going to breach the surface was she? That was naughty! She'd get told off for sure, water could go everywhere! But before he could open his mouth to say as such she was out and in the brighter place before diving back down again. She'd find him bright eyed and grinning excitedly, "that was amazing! You went so fast and then whoosh!" His hands came together and rocketed up in a motion before parting above his head in an imitation of her going above the surface, he doesn't think he's ever done a jump like that, far too frightened of landing outside of his tank and suffocating to death, "just.. just.." He trailed off, wide eyes and glanced around, "no walls?"
He was very easily distracted and the concept of no walls was alien to him, enough so that his sharp gaze couldn't quite comprehend that he could swim as far as he could see. Because he could see quite far and.. "I didnt know so much water existed.." He sounded thoughtful, almost unbelieving but he did move forward a little, brushing past her carefully because he knew there was definitely space there for sure. He held one hand out in front of him, the almost transparent webbing between his fingers visible in such good light. It wasn't until he'd stepped forward a couple of meters that he glanced back over his shoulder excitedly, unable to say anything other than make a happy little sound of exilaration as his tail suddenly moved and he shot forward into the water, swimming all of about ten meters before he slowed to a sudden stop, his lower half overtaking his upper half because he'd anchored himself by grabbing hold of some long growing green plantation.
His nostrils flared a little and before he thought about it he'd chomped into a piece of the greenery and was chewing away happily. It had smelt nice, it tasted nice. He was assuming he could eat it because he'd never heard of poison so there was no hesitation. He glanced over from where he came to see if the Ida had followed him. He hoped so, she needed to see this stuff.
If she did follow, the first thing he'd ask her is, "are you my new friend? Master always said I might get one one day, I hoped and hoped.. Are you it?"

Ida would make sure to visit Chez in his tank until he was ready to leave it, even if it meant sticking her head under water so the could easily talk. He deserved having someone around who could understand him and interact with him and just be a friend. She was going to look out for him though and try to help out. Right now, he was like those adorable pets Kaia kept wanting to adopt, and it warmed her heart how delighted he was at everything that was new for him.
She chuckled at his reaction when she was by him again, finding him adorable. “No walls,” she confirmed. “And you can jump above the water without worrying about getting everything wet if you do it in the middle of the lake.” It was hard not to smile and relax around Chez though. He was so delightful and easily amazed it made her feel a thousand years younger. When he started swimming, she slowly followed him to where he’d grabbed onto some of the grass growing at the bottom of the lake.
“I am a new friend,” she agreed, not wanting him to think otherwise. “But I’m not going to be your only friend here,” she said, moving closer to she could gently brush some hair out of the way. “There’s a nymph that lives here, something tells me she’ll adore you. And there’s a merman too.” He deserved to know that there were others around here he could play with too, and that would understand him. “And when you’re ready, there’s a whole world of people above water too. But there’s no hurry to explore anything you’re not ready for.”
Holding out her hand, Ida gave him an encouraging look. “Come see the whole lake with me?” He said he’d never seen so much water before? Well, what was better than experiencing it first hand rather than just looking at it?

He chewed on the mouthful of grass as he listened to her, chewing on it and loving the taste as something entirely new to himself. Something that he could quite easily digest but had never really had access too before. It isn't as if there are books on the dietary habits of his species, most of the time it had been a case of just luck.. There had been that one time he'd been given eggs and they had made him really rather sick to the stomach. Chicken eggs that is, Master had never given him any other types of eggs after that, he didn't want to risk his prize child creature getting ill again. Mostly he'd lived on fruits, vegetables and fish as his primary diet, it had worked, he wasn't malnourished according to Master. Perhaps a little undeveloped muscle wise because of his confinement but otherwise perfectly healthy. If you ignored the whole shifting part of his species too.. but then Master was never interested in a human looking child. Chez was nothing to the collector if not for the form he was in right now.
The idea of no walls would most likely take a while to kick in, he was definitely not going to be losing the habit of believing there's a wall not far off from him. It'd be something he'd get over in time but for now he was cautious, he couldn't quite wrap his mind around the whole concept for now. Especially when it comes to jumping above the surface.. If it went wrong that'd be bad. So he just looked up as he chewed, his eyes reflecting the light that danced on the surface before he blinked and looked back at Ida again as he swallowed. Chez had another handful of grass that he'd pulled free but he didn't shove it into his mouth yet, it's difficult to talk with a mouthful, that's one thing he does know and she was saying some interesting things. He needed to speak back.
"More than one friend..?" He didn't even flinch when she reached out to brush his hair from his forehead, but he did raise his own hand to touch hers, his curious gaze fixed onto the webbing between her fingers that was different yet very similar to his own. However, his nails looked very much human compared to hers but he wasn't worried about the sharper claws, just interested. He had no idea what a nymph was, of a merman but the fact that there were more than one person around who could be his friend was something alien to him, "I'd like to meet them sometime, do they jump up above the surface too? And have a pretty tail too? And come under the water? Master never could, he'd put his hands in the water but he couldn't breathe with me.. I thought I was the only one." There were no other tanks near his.. There were other rooms, cages, nearby, but nothing entirely water based like his own.
He nibbled on the end of the grass thoughtfully and settled back down on the lake floor, legs bent beneath his body comfortably, "I can't go above the water.. Can't breathe, can't see.. It's dangerous for me," he sounded rather matter of fact, but it wasn't Ida's fault, she didn't know about his limitations, "are.. we outside?" Which would mean that that big big bright light was the sun, the actual sun, he'd only ever seen pictures of it before and heard a few stories but he didn't think he'd see it. Outside was supposed to be dangerous to him, people could hurt him, but this Ida seemed nice though. She hadn't hurt him.
He shoved a little mouthful of the grass into his mouth and let the rest drop back onto the floor and then took Ida's hand with his own. He smiled awkwardly because of the puffed out grass filled cheeks and nodded, she would know the ways to go so he doesn't get hurt, he trusts pretty quickly and easily and was doing so right here, "mmm, eshgo." 'let's go'.

It was kind of cute how he kept eating the grass. It kind of reminded her of Kaia in a way. Ida herself had never been one to eat grass, but she figured it was kind of logical given her species too. Chester on the other hand looked like he was part horse too, so it made sense that he’d enjoy grass. “You can eat all the grass you want when you visit,” she said, happy that he seemed to enjoy it so much. “Just don’t eat all the fish or the platypi.” Since he was new to the area, she figured he wouldn’t really get in trouble for eating a fish or two, but it seemed fair to tell him they weren’t all food. The lake needed fish and Ida liked playing with them without eating them too. Besides, it seemed easier for Kaia to regrow grass than to replace the fish.
Ida couldn’t really remember the last time she’d been so delighted by something so innocent. “As many as you want,” she said, truly believing that. Once she could get him to trust that he could move about above water, the whole world would open up to him. The way he was studying her hand was kind of cute. It made her wonder why she’d never really tried the whole kids thing before. She let him finish his train of thought before answer him, it seemed rude to interrupt when he seemed so in awe. “The merman has a tail like mine, the nymph does not,” she informed him. “All of us can leave the water and breathe under water, so there’s at least three people here who might pop by and stick our heads in the tank to talk to you. You’re not alone anymore. And nobody owns you anymore, you can explore and figure out who you want to be and not who someone else wants you to be.” Sure, she didn’t know what he’d make of that, but she wanted him to know that he could be whoever he wanted.
Maybe it was a little early to get him to understand that he could go above water. Yes, she’d work on getting him used to the lake first. Used to no walls. “We are outside,” she confirmed. “And when it’s time to go back, someone will be along to wrap you in a bubble of water to get you safely transferred to the travel container that brought you here and again to get you to your tank.” She was trying her best not to scare him, because he really had nothing to be scared of. “And you can come back here at any time. Gotta get you used to swimming properly after all, with enough room to really move.” Sure, it probably would be more ideal if they could do all this in the ocean, but the lake seemed like it was more than big enough for him for a while.
Ida was pretty happy when he took her hand and she made sure not to swim too fast as they were making their way along the bottom of the lake. She stopped swimming forward when she discovered she’d lost a pearl (she assumed she’d dropped it when moving them or counting them since Kaia didn’t touch her pearls without asking) and picked it up. Holding it out for Chester, she had an idea for it. “If you find things like these in the water here, they’re mine, so please just leave them be. This one, however,” she said, placing it in his hand. “You can keep, to remind you that you’ve got friends here. It’s valuable, so keep it safe.” Normally, Ida didn’t like parting with her treasures if she didn’t have to, which was why she’d brought so many of her pearls here, but she didn’t want the kid to think it was all a dream either when he woke up the next morning. So having something concrete seemed like a good idea. Besides, he was too cute not to earn him at least something.

He had no idea what a platypi was but he nodded none the less, Chez has never hunted anything before in his life anyway so he wouldn't quite know how to catch something even if he was told the basics. Not to mention that he probably wouldn't be quite smart or agile enough to do so. So the animals of the lake were safe from him, for the time being anyway. With the plants available and easily found he doubts that he'd choose to chase something down rather than just graze happily if he gets peckish anyway. He does quite like his fish though, but that's the only real meaty thing he'd ever been given before. The blonde child licked his lips a little, his wide eyed gaze looking around the area again with wonder, he couldn't quite take it all in and make sense of it in the same time, not whilst he was also faced with somebody completely new too. It wasn't overwhelming, but he would most likely be awake for a long while questioning what he's seen in his own mind whilst staring at the ceiling of his 'room'.
They can all leave the water too? So they could leave him behind just like Master had done so time and time again, that was a little deflating to think on but he was still grateful none the less to have somebody to speak too beneath the surface. He just didn't expect to be in company for very long now.. The world outside of the water as so much bigger than in it, he wouldn't really blame her. But he was a little envious, enough that he released her hand to stop investigating it.. Then his attention was taken he blinked at Ida,"Owns me?" He didn't understand that and the confusion creasing his brow made that a little too obvious, Chez knows absolutely no different from the captive life that he's led and so Ida's comment on him being 'owned' was one he didn't understand in the slightest. He doesn't know what he was to Master other than cared for and kept alive, wasn't that life? "I am what I want to be, I'm Chester, I like that name. I don't want to choose another one." Nor does he understand.. Or know any other names for that matter. 'I'm Chester...
He beamed at her next though and in a quick move of somebody who had obviously spent to much time moving in a confined space he did a tight, happy turn in the water, also coincidentally circuling her and kicking up a little debris floating away from them. He was outside! He wanted to go to the surface and look around but caution held him back. It stung a little for him to raise his head from the water, stung his eyes at least.. Wouldn't the outside hurt more? It was supposed to be dangerous outside, Master had always said so. Instead though he just floated vertically in the water with his tail lazily moving to and fro whilst he excitedly pointed at the surface but off to the shoreline, "green! Those are trees!" It wasn't a question, more a statement, "no.. No not just trees, there are lots. So, not just trees but a wood? A jungle?" Like that sad lady had come from back home, she would have loved to have seen it, "just loved it, a jungle.." Did he miss the woman who had never spoken back to him? Yes.. She had been the only other person he'd ever seen other than Master.
But there were more people and this lady, this Ida was speaking to him and smiling, and she was so kind, telling him all of these things and not once getting annoyed at his questions. It was refreshing, like the water that surrounded him.. It wasn't quite right but it was more refreshing than usual. Salt or fresh water doesn't matter to his kind, although he likes salt water, it's easier to float in. So as he stopped the movement of his tail he sunk back down until his hooves touched the bed and he was sliding his hand into Ida's and setting off through the water. It didn't take very long for his tail to start aching and Ida was half pulling him through the water, something he didn't mind in the slightest actually.. Thankfully they did end up stopping and he curiously peered around to see what she'd stopped to pick up, "that so pretty!" He didn'tquite interrupt her but he did speak as soon as the pearl was in view, the boy reached out for it before it was offered but wouldn't have snatched.
He looked absolutely delighted when she placed it in his hand and his fingers closed around it as he brought it into his chest where he opened it carefully and lifted it to his face. He went almost slightly crosseyed to look at the thing, "for me..?" His presents had always been edible, but after a curious sniff and the flicking out of his tongue against the smooth surface he gathered it wasn't edible and his smile widened, he'd never had a thing. A real thing that he could keep! Oh he would most definitely keep it safe. A real treasure, all for him! His webbed fingers closed around the pearl again and this time when he moved forward it wasn't to circle her, but intead to hug her around the waist like he'd experienced one or twice with Master in the past. It seemed right and natural, it's a way of sharing happiness and so he was sharing, "thank you," he chirped brightly, "thank you so much, I'll keep it safe. As safe as I can, I promise."
No, he hadn't let go, he was too happy hugging her tightly with his eyes squeezed shut.

It was adorable how happy he seemed to be to just graze at the bottom of the lake. It made her wish she was more of a vegetarian, it would’ve made life a lot easier in a place like this. She would never have to leave the lake. At this point, it was obvious they were going to have to take it really slow with adjusting to his new life but she could be patient. It would be worth it in the end, because his world would get so much bigger than the tank once he wasn’t so easily worn out. And trusted that he could breathe above water.
“You are Chester,” she agreed. “Don’t worry about anything else, we’ve got all the time in the world to figure things out. I’ll ask them to give you something so you can reach me whenever you want. So we can arrange more trips here or if you just want someone to talk to.” Ida didn’t really mind if she wound up spending a lot of time by his tank. She had no other patients assigned to her for her own training right now, and she wanted Chester to feel at home here. Feel safe and dare to dream.
Ida was kind of just floating around in the water while he did his little turn and started pointing to the things above water. “It’s a forest,” she clarified, smiling at him. “If you want, we can go have a sneak peak later, just your face above water so you can still breathe.” She didn’t know about his eyes stinging in the air, but since he believed he couldn’t breathe above water it seemed like a good compromise for how he could see things above water. If it turned out he couldn’t see without being hurt, she would figure something out. Maybe one of those divers masks would work. Will it with water and keep his eyes hydrated.
It became clear pretty quickly that they needed to work on endurance, but it wouldn’t happen overnight. She would make a note that he needed to spend a lot of time in the lake to work his swimming skills. He was just a kid and should be able to swim around without being exhausted so quickly and the only way he would get there was through repeat exposure.
Ida nodded when he asked if it was for him. When he hugged her like that, she gently wrapped an arm around him and used her other hand to gently run through his hair. “You’re welcome,” she said. “You let me know if you need anything, ok? I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of.”

He has no idea if he could survive on just this stuff but it certainly wouldn't stop him from trying, he'd never had anything quite this fresh before.. He'd certainly not eaten anything that his kind usually ate in the 'wild', of course they ate fish but all the fish he'd ever recieved had been from the deli counter at the local supermarket, bought by his owner especially for him. Sometimes it was even smoked, that gave it a funny taste but he ate it none the less, he's a grateful, appreciative boy. He blinked at her when she agreed that he was Chester, so what had she meant..? As for not worrying he wasn't going to be, mainly because he doesn't really know what he should be worrying about. Was there something? As for giving him something.. He wasn't quite sure how that'd work. He's quite happy to go along with whatever the people in charge schedule for him.
Though he admittedly would love more time in this place, it was just so big, even bigger than big, he was quite sure it would take him a while to explore it all.
"I can see it from here," he said happily, still looking over at the greenery over in the distance, "I have very good eyesight, very good. In the water anyway, I can't see out of the water like master does, it's all blurry and it stings, air isn't nice is it?" He rubbed at his eye just thinking about it. If Ida looked close enough his iris's and pupils were bigger than the normal humans, his ability to see far beneath the waves was near enough best than most water mammals, not that he knows that, "could swim closer.. but I can see from here. There's birds too! Look!" He pointed up, his finger trailing the progress of a black silhouette drifting over the sky, his excitement palpable.
Then they'd been moving, but that hadn't stopped Chez from openly gaping at the new things around him, once or twice he'd even made to swim in a different direction but he'd stayed with Ida. Good thing too because his tail was beginning to ache and his heart beat in his chest, he'd never been out of breath before considering he doesn't have to breathe air, but the water quantity passing through the thin gills on his neck had increased exponentially. Which meant he was more than happy to linger in the hug that he gave her.
He looked up at her after she stroked his hair and grinned brightly, "fish? You said there were fishies in here but I can't eat them, I won't eat them but I'd like to see some? Or maybe do some jumping.. Maybe not right now.. I feel a bit sleepy now but next time," just mentioning it made him yawn suddenly, something he tried to cover up with a hand but only half managed, "mm.. You're a nice Ida, I'm glad I met you. Are there other Ida's out there?"

Ida would make sure to bring Chez some fresh fish in his tank that he could eat. Sure, she imagined the staff would be aware that he needed seafood, but she wanted to ask someone to drive her to the beach so she could get a collection of things for him to try. Shrimp, squid, few different kinds of fish, some prawns… She had a shopping list in mind that would be really expensive if someone were to buy it all, but would be entirely free if she just got a trip to the beach. Give him a few little treats in addition to getting him a way to reach her if he just wanted someone to talk to. He was too precious to leave to his own devices.
Listening to him talk about his sight made her smile slightly. “We can get you goggles, fill them with water before you put them on so your eyes won’t be exposed to the air,” she told him, chuckling slightly at the thought. “It’s what humans do when they come under water, put on goggles so their eyes will stay dry. Don’t see why we can’t do the same for you. Air isn’t bad, it’s just different.” She didn’t want him to worry about not being able to at least see other people, even if he didn’t believe he could breathe above water yet. It was going to take time and it seemed best to take it in baby steps.
“I will bring you an array of seafood,” she told him when she learned he wanted fish. As for seeing the fish, well, she could make that happen. “There are other nice people here, yes,” she said, running her fingers through his hair gently. “How about we stay right here for a while?” she suggested. “Curl up on the grass and you can rest a little?” It seemed like he could use that. While she waited for him to answer either way, she started humming gently to summon the fish so he could see them. She would stay with him until he was ready to go back to his room, but it really did seem like he needed to rest a little before they did anything more anyway.

Fresh fish would be something fantastic to him, most of the things he's eaten have come from a human deli. In all honesty he wouldn't know what to do with a whole fish, they have bones in them, he knows that, but he isn't aware that he can digest it all. Master had never taken the risk of him choking. In reality though his mouth and teeth are strong enough, durable enough and wicked enough to slice through meat and bone with little to no trouble at all. People may think him part horse because of his frontal legs, but he's aquatic and very much a predator, enough that he can protect himself against sharks and other aquatic predators when it comes to it. Plus, his kind love crustaceans. He has yet to discover that yet but needless to say it'd be like a cat experiencing catnip.
Fill some goggles with water.. He wasn't sure what goggles were, he'd never seen them before but he had seen master wearing some before, back when he'd been a small child and had needed that little extra bit of care and attention. They kept his eyes dry. So if he filled those with water it makes sense he'd be able to last longer above the water's surface. Why had he never thought of that before? Probably because he never dared ask for anything before now, he always feared a bad response, a rejection. And he'd had no reason too, because outside the water was dangerous to him. But Ida said it wasn't, that there were friends there. And he'd readily believe her, she's his friend. "And different isn't dangerous," he added with a bright smile, "is it? Because you're different, but you're not dangerous." Well, she probably is, but not to him, "are you going to be my new teacher in this place? Did Master say so? You seem to know lots."
He was kind of relieved that she said that he could stay right here for a while, the surface of the water was a little further away here but the floor was still lit well enough that he could see perfectly clearly. He tilted his head into her touch a little and smiled a little lazier before actively moving to duck down against the bed of the lake, wriggling into some longer grass to anchor himself from floating away. Not that there were currents in this water, nor does he have any experience of currents, it just seemed like a smart thing to do at that moment, "we can rest.. Rest and maybe snooze a little?" He yawned widely, revealing slightly sharper front teeth along with those stronger molars of him, mixed diet omnivore, "I'll try not to fall asleep.." He finished speaking just as the fish began to arrive and he watched with wide eyed amazement as they swam around the area, "they're so shiny.."

It seemed only fair to spoil the kid by getting him some fresh food for a change and she really wouldn’t mind going fishing for someone closer to herself in species for once. Bring him all the little things he’d never had before and let him taste and figure out what he liked. Sure, it wasn’t guaranteed that he’d like it all, but he would never know unless he tried. Maybe she should bring back some plants from the ocean too for him to try out. Once he had some likes and dislikes, she would make a shopping list for herself that she could go fishing for.
Ida knew that long-term it was best to get Chester to see that he could move above water, but for right now it seemed best to accommodate him and make him comfortable. Make him enjoy it in tiny bits and pieces and not force anything on him. “Different isn’t dangerous,” she agreed, smiling at him. When he asked if she was going to be his new teacher she just nodded. “I will be here, or visit your tank, for whatever you need. And answer any questions you have.” She didn’t mind answering his questions and this really was a great practice for her therapist training. Besides, he was an adorable kid so she really was enjoying herself right now.
“You snooze,” she said, running her hand through his hair again. “I’ll be here the whole time. It’s ok to fall asleep.” She would stay nearby and just float through the water nearby if he fell asleep. Ida was on Chester-duty today and she was going to make sure that he was well looked after. And if he was tired, a little nap wouldn’t really hurt anyone. “They’re really pretty,” she agreed. He had wanted to see fish, and she was just glad it was the easiest thing in the world for her to make that come true for him.
