“Seriously?” Devon mutters to himself. This school is totally bonkers. Not only do they make this school a ‘no smoking establishment’ but they also put the only smoking shed at the edge of the academy grounds. That is seriously fucked up. Devon thinks this is unfair for the people who rely on smoking for relieving their stress. He should know, he’s one of them. He continues walking finally seeing the ugly ass shed the school has made. Obviously they don’t give a shit about the smokers in the campus. The shed, if it can even be called as one, looks like shit. He shakes his head and walks a tad faster than he is doing a while ago. He sighs as he reaches the shade the roof is giving. At least the roof isn’t full of holes or like shitty. As he takes his pack of cigarettes out his pocket, he contemplates his decision of being in this school once again. Devon smokes menthol cigarettes because he likes the coldness of it when he sucks it in. He put one stick in between his lips as he lights it up with his lighter. He closes his eyes as he inhales the smoke and lets it sit in for about three seconds. As he exhales, he feels a little bit lighter and less angry compared to a few seconds ago. He leans on one of the posts in the shed and continues to take hits on the fag. He’s not yet halfway through the stick but Devon is already thinking about lighting up a second one. Humans say it is bad for the health and can destroy the lungs and probably get cancer too. He chuckles to himself. Thank goodness he is a merman. His lungs are hundred times stronger than a human. And he doesn’t really get any sickness or whatever. So, he can enjoy puffing a fag or 5 in one sitting. Smoking is one of the human things he adopts. And it’s probably his favourite. It does alleviate his stressful mood most of the time. People say some do it to look cool. Well, Devon can’t help if he already looks cool plus the smoking. The only thing he doesn’t like about it is the smell of it afterwards. That’s why he smokes the menthol one too. The smell that clings on is not as bad as the normal ones like a red Marlboro stick or a lights one. Devon continues puffing as his mind wanders to all the shitty things he does not like about this place at all. First and foremost, the aesthetic of the school just does not fit his brand. He has learned that from humans on Instagram. Everything he does need to fit his brand and Manson does not. It is dreary and dry as fuck in his opinion. Devon shakes his head as he continues to list the things in his mind.
Open to anyone! The more the merrier!

Sage had every reason to stop smoking. Despite his gift he was very much human and really quite ill but he was still in quite a hefty amount of denial over it all. The teenage boy's skin had an undeniably yellow tinge to it now, the white's of his eyes were no longer so white and yet still he was jonesing after more of a drink than the few ounces of vodka he'd had just a couple of hours earlier. However, the student bar had cut him off entirely, it was daylight so the vampires he usually made a deal with were curled up in their darkened rooms until the sun dipped beneath the horizon, and he was no longer allowed off of the grounds unsupervised for his own safety. He was dry. Apart from the little bit of alcohol he had left in the bottom of the flash he kept hidden within his jeans pocket he had nothing on him to drink. He did, however, have a packet of cigarettes and he'd decided to wander away from the buildings to the shed where he could always hope to find some deliquent who would sneak him a drink or two.
So what if he was in the stages of liver failure, he had pain killers and he had his smokes. And the smart ass, ever present ghost tailing behind him invisible to the rest of the world. Currently Adrian was singing some Queen numbers pretty loudly, luckily for the dead Fae he had quite the decent set of pipes on him, otherwise Sage would have silenced him hours ago.. Ade was on the soprano high of Bohemian Rhapsody right now and Sage was smiling lopsidedly as he fiddled with the packet of fags in his hand somewhat clumsily.
He got the thing and the foil (that he had a tendency to fold over and over onto itself) opened and stepped into the shed as he pulled one out. His gaze lifted to spot Devon stood there and he paused for a moment before he lit up, took a drag and offered the guy a lazy smile, "hey," it was a simple greeting, but Sage isn't really the type of person to start up chatting imediately with a stranger. As a human in the world of supernaturals he has to be somewhat careful about who he approaches and strikes up a conversation with. They could hurt him. He doesn't mind being dinner willingly, but he knows there are some out there who prefer the dinner still kicking and squealing. No doubt if something tried to eat him he'd squeal like a pig.
The ectomancer moved over to lean against a wall and awkwardly shuffle his way down into a sitting position upon the floor. Luckily it hadn't been raining recently, otherwise he'd get a wet ass because he'd be sitting himself down regardless of the weather. A line of exhaled smoke blew towards the ceiling of the shed and he watched as a breeze caught it, "alright, shut it now," he added, speaking to the spirit rather than the physical compant he had. He always verbally requested silence before using his ability to silence Ade.. It was just polite. But, also made him look like he was either talking to himself or being a little rude.
It also worked, he now had blessed silence.

“Hey.” Devon’s head slightly turns to the direction where the voice comes from. It comes from a guy who looks very… odd if he may say so himself. The school is definitely full of oddities and this guy fits right in. Before he replies, Devon quickly assesses the guy’s appearance. His skin looks horrible as if he looks sick with that yellow-ish tinge of his skin. Devon is happy that he has a natural luminescent tinge on his skin for being a merman. The guy definitely smells of alcohol which he is not going t judge. Drinking is a fun human thing to do and he likes it. Not more than smoking though. Drinking still makes him drunk but it takes him a long while to get drunk because of his biology. He also sobers up quickly so there’s that. The hassle of getting yourself drunk but quickly sobering up is sometimes not worth it. Oh and speaking of humans, this gu looks like he’s one. But here in Manson, no one is really fully human. He gives a little wave at the guy he’s still observing. Humans are interesting creature. Most of them are self-destructive and this one seems like the type. Oh, how Devon misses playing with them. He watches as the other person sits down on the ground as he takes a drag of his fag. He is not bad looking if Devon’s going to be honest. He likes the tattoos definitely. He wonders if his natural merman allure will work on this person even if he’s not fully human. Devon guesses that it might take a little push and his siren voice but he will have to test that later. Now, he just wants to be acquainted with this interesting prey. Before he can speak up, he hears the guy telling him, or just the air in general, to shut it. Who is he talking to? Obviously not Devon because he has not spoken a word yet. Devon’s tries to hide the smirk forming in his face. This guy definitely is getting more and more interesting to him. He throws the butt of the finished fag on the ground and as he is lighting a new one, he speaks up. “I hope whoever you’re trying to quiet down has done so already,” he says, his voice laced with a little bit of his siren’s voice. He does want to get the man’s attention. He loves attention and basks in it. He likes making people put him in a pedestal and vocalize it. If that makes him crazy then who cares. It does not harm anyone. Well, unless someone thinks they’re better than him. “Guess this school just doesn’t care for smokers,” he says randomly. “This shed is pure shit.” He smiles at the man who was sitting down on the ground which further more proves that this shed is so shitty that they didn’t even put a makeshift bench at the least. Hopefully his smile doesn’t make him look like a predator that he is. Devon has never killed anyone so he doesn’t really consider himself a real predator. He has maimed some people badly but never to die. There’s a fine line between that and killing and he doesn’t think he can cross that line. Yet. He takes another drag of his fag as he waits the other guy’s response to him. “But better than nothing, I guess,” he tells himself quietly with a sigh.

Two long boring and lonely weeks since Ray had been captured by Manson staff and institutionalized and Ray's negative opinion of the place still hadn't fully changed. The little demon still wasn't fully acquainted with his fellow residents and the main reason behind that was his high risk factor making it extremely difficult for him to meet anyone and just hang out. A lot of the lower risk residents were easily intimidated by the guards there and because Ray couldn't go anywhere without a guard lurking over his shoulder...yeah you can see why making friends with anyone would be difficult for him to do there. As for his fellow high risk residents? Forget it! All of them were as unpredictable, violent and dangerous as himself and Ray plus a fellow unpredictable high risk resident could only equal trouble and chaos. None of which good. They would likely be a bad influence on each other. It made life at Manson a lonely and boring one not that Ray would ever truly admit that to anyone not even to his own counselor; unless his counselor used mind games on him to find the truth. He was much too prideful for that. In fact if asked, Ray would lie and brag about how he doesn't need any friends and that they only get in the way of things. All lies of course since he doesn't even believe it himself, but pride sadly is a truly powerful force to reckon with.
It was a nice sunny afternoon and Ray was lucky enough that his guard of the day was able to pull a few strings to get him some free time out on the academy grounds. Ray who was very appreciative expressed his gratitude by actually being nice to his guard. Ray might have been a jerk most of the time, but even he recognized that his guard didn't have to do all of this for him. In fact, Ray normally would have went all out and been a model prisoner for his guard that day were it not for one little minor detail. See as appreciative as the fire demon was in finally getting to go outside and visit the grounds he had a plan and that plan involved a little bit more than just wandering the grounds and enjoying the scenery. You see one of the things Ray longed to do since his arrival at the asylum was to smoke. Indeed that was really all he wanted to do, but unfortunately for reasons unknown to him smoking had officially been banned pretty much everywhere throughout the asylum save for one tiny area that Ray had been told about: a simple shack. In truth, the demon was not sure what to expect. Still, as long as he could smoke in there he really could care less what it looked like or so he thought anyway.
Luckily, Ray came prepared. Just last week after he knocked out his guard he found a fresh pack of cigarettes on him and naturally being a bit of an addict he took them. Ray was caught soon after of course, but luckily none of the staff spotted the package of cigarettes he had stolen, so he got to keep them. It was just assumed that the guard had misplaced his cigarettes or they simply fell out of his pocket. This was precisely why Ray couldn't just ask his guard if he could smoke in the smoking shack. The guard would wonder where he got his cigarettes in the first place since it was clear he did not buy them and well there would just be too many questions and the demon did not like questions being asked. So to avoid all that debacle that would likely occur should the guard discover his stolen pack of cigarettes, the demon decided he would just have to find some way of ditching his guard. He didn't want to hurt the poor guy, but he didn't want him ruining his fun either. Besides, if he doesn't seize his opportunity to smoke that day then he wasn't sure when he would receive another and he hates missing out on stuff.
As soon as the guard got Ray outside, the demon took in a long breath of fresh air and looked around. After one good look, he spotted what he assumed was the smoker's shack and even at a distance Ray could tell the building was in serious disrepair. It seriously looked as though someone put holes all over the shack on purpose kind of like how some people deliberately put holes in their jeans in the name of fashion; which Ray personally did not understand since he failed to see anything even remotely fashionable about holes. He needed a plan; some way he can ditch his guard and make a bee line to the shack. The guard then began to lead him down a path. Ray wondered how he should proceed. He supposed he could just distract his guard, but then he would probably just find him so easily in the shack and ruin his fun. So looked like he would have to knock him out like the guy from last week and he really didn't want to this time, but...
As they continued down the path, the guard attempted to strike up a conversation with the unusually quiet demon with Ray only nodding every now and then pretending to listen. For this to work he needed to be quick and there couldn't be any witnesses around for what he was about to do. When he thought no one was watching them, Ray made his move. With great speed, Ray struck a pressure point in his guard's neck knocking him out instantly. He watched as the guard fell to the ground with a light thud and looked down at the guard's now unconscious body. He checked him and found he was still breathing. Definitely still alive just unconscious. Ray knew he didn't hit him hard enough to kill him, so wasn't worried. Ray was just about to search the man's pockets when a thought occurred. He could steal from him or he could be smarter than that. He could make it look like the guard fell asleep on the job. He smiled deviously as he dragged the guard's unconscious body and posed him underneath a nearby tree. After making sure the guard was comfortable, Ray turned and left.
Hands in pockets, he made his merry way to the smoker's shack. It was not until he got right up to it did he realize just how terrible it was. Still if it meant he could smoke in there all day and not get in trouble for it he was doing it. Wondering if anybody else was already in there, the little demon took a deep breath before slowly opening the door. Upon entering the pitifully designed shack, the demon saw that there were two other people in there already smoking it up. And considering there weren't any guards in there with them, Ray assumed they were low risk. He wondered if they would be at all opposed to his joining them? Not that he would ask them for permission.
Ray closed the shack behind him not that it much mattered. All it would take was a little rain and maybe some wind and boom the whole thing falls down. Then maybe the asylum could get them an actual smoker's lounge. You know the kind with cozy chairs and sofas and little coffee tables. Yeah, that definitely sounded cozier than this dump of a shack. It looked like shit! While pretending to admire the place, a sharp whistle escaped him. "Wow, sooooo this is our smoking lounge, eh? What a dump! No, that would be an insult to dumps. I mean just look at this place! It has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. This place is shit that got hit by an eighteen wheeler twice over and then spat out by a shark! Am I right or am I right?" Ray spoke in an attempt to break the ice. Naturally since he had just arrived he had no idea this had already been said by the merman.
As Ray studied the two, Ray got hit by an all too familiar scent; which was coming from the young guy sitting in the middle of the floor. Ray started sniffing him. Confused, he frowned. "Uh dude don't take this the wrong way and I don't mean to offend you, but you smell...human. Now I know that you're not since I've been told that humans aren't allowed in here for their own safety. So I'm kind of confused by your scent. What exactly are you?" Ray asked him looking the guy over. Normally, the demon could just smell an individual and know what they were, but this guy's scent was seriously messing with his senses. The demon had no idea that gifted humans were a thing because he had never encountered them before and his master didn't talk about them.
Meanwhile, the other individual in the room had a fishy smell. Ray figured the guy must have been some sort of water creature; merman possibly. Ray wasn't entirely sure since while he knew about merpeople from what his master told him; he never met one before. So kind of hard knowing a creature's scent if you never encountered it before.
As he waited for the human scented guy to answer, Ray pulled out his cigarette pack and removed one. Casually he lit it using his own fire. And although he didn't care if his fire scared them or not, Ray took great care not hitting them with it. Putting the newly lit cigarette between his lips he began to smoke it. A satisfied smile crossed his lips. That day Ray wore a long sleeved red shirt with a black hoodie and jeans with his red scarf. Ray didn't care if he looked strange dressed this way in eighty degree weather. He loved being warm and hated the cold.

Devon managed to gain Sage's attention alright. The human boy paused with the cigarette between his fingers to look over to the other guy again, there was a small pause as he looked before he seemed to pull himself together and drew in another lungful of smoke. He'd noticed that he was attractive when he'd walked in, of course he had, Sage wasn't blind and he certainly wasn't dead. But he's aware of where he stands in the whole social aspect of Manson, as a gifted human, and a dying one at that he was a little low down on the scale. He's not got a lot of luck when it comes to certain things either, but at least that means if somebody pays him attention he's usually pathetically responsive.
His lips quirked into a small smile and he nodded slightly, "if he doesn't I shut him down anyway." The ectomancer wasn't going to explain the scope of his abilities, or even point out that he literally speaks to dead people. Although, he thinks he does a brilliant impersonation of the kid from the 'sixth sense' that he'll probably just keep pocketed away for later. Besides, this guy hadn't asked details.
"He isn't human, Sage." The red headed spirit didn't seem offended about the silencing aspect of the conversation between the two. In fact, during them speaking Ade had moved over to stand right beside Devon, the merman may feel a slight chill on the air but it could be explained away by the slight breeze. Even if Devon did feel it the dead fae didn't care, he stuck his face inches from Dev's and peered at him suspiciously, "he's far too pretty to be human," Ade added before breaking down into laughter. Sage couldn't help but smile slightly wider and he covered it up by going along with what the guy was continuing to say.
"Hey, tip for you, if you're down to your last smoke then just light it up anywhere, you'd have finished it by the time a guard finds you and if you've got none left then they can't do anything about it, nothing to confiscate." Though, that doesn't help if he wants to smoke multiple cigarettes, but he didn't point that out, "and I guess they don't give a crap about us, but, on the plus side at least there's a little bit of a roof and some walls. More wall than no wall.." So yeah, better than nothing.
He was more engrossed on that smile of Dev's to notice Ray's arrival until he began to rant away. Then he turned his head to look over to the demon, surprised by his vocal little speech. All he managed to squeeze out was an awkward little 'uh' of confusion and then the guy was closer to him and sniffing away like some werecreature. Was he a shifter? Without a guard meant that he couldn't be too dangerous so Sage wasn't overly worried but still, somebody was sniffing him. It almost made him want to lift his arm and take a little whiff himself, he was sure he was clean. A little boozy perhaps but not dirty, what was this dude's issue?
Then he spoke and Sage's eyes widened a touch in surprise, "uh, I am one? Not like those out there," he meant beyond Manson's wall, "I've got a gift, for example.. I can tell that you should probably have somebody keeping an eye on you, your kill count.." He didn't think going too far into detail would be a good idea in front of additional company but the number of spiritual threads hanging off of this guy was immense.. He could pull on any of them and bring forth the spirit of the dead person but he wouldn't be doing such a thing. Instead he'd rather just have a chilled out cigarette break with other people who don't want to stick a knife in his back or teeth into his throat.
"Woah.. Dude's his own lighter," he turned his head to grin at Devon, "did'ya see that?" Sage's gaze moved between the two he'd ended up sat here with, conversation meant distraction, he likes distraction, "I'm Sage, nice to meet some fellow smokers." Company that was alive was definitely preferable. Even Ade, the ever present and somewhat irritating spirit had left Sage too it, disappearing out the back to probably sit beneath a tree or do whatever it was he did when alone..

IT TOOK US TO WHERE THE WATER WAS
THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME.
“If he doesn’t I shut him down anyway.” The other guy says that as he gives him a nod and a small smile. Devon thinks that the smile fits right on his face. Hmm, maybe a little taste will be nice. “I don’t know what that means but cheers to that,” he says as he pretends his fag is a glass of alcohol and takes a hit. A few seconds later, he feels a bit of a shift in temperature on one side of him. He doesn’t think it’s cold because he used to live under the sea like way below but he knows when the temperature has changed. Devon thinks that is a little weird and creepy but he doesn’t show it in his face. He thinks maybe it has something to do with the cute guy. The guy smiles wider than he has done a while ago and that makes Devon more curious. This guy is pushing all of his ‘curiosity’ buttons. The guy replies to him about his rants and gives advise to Devon. He laughs melodically with his siren voice still turned on. “Good to know,” he says, “I’ll keep that in mind when I’m in a quick one fag moment.” Devon startles a bit when he hears a whistle and another voice near to him. He turns his head to the direction where he hears it and sees another guy there. He is quite loud at the moment which is better than being sneaky and silent in Devon’s opinion. He might have shown his fangs and claws if he is startled like that. The new guy starts trash talking the place a little bit too much but guess what? He hears no lies from what he says. It is a dump. “You’re right,” he says, entertaining the train of thought coming out of the guy. “Except for one thing. A shark’s mouth is not foul even if they ravage their prey,” he adds with a smile where he transforms his normal teeth into his sharp row of fangs as a funny statement. He knows the guy will probably not take it as a threat for one reason: He smells like a predator too like him. They are the same but way different too. He smells of smoke but not just because of his cigarette. He’s something of fire-related nature. That’s pretty interesting. The new guy then proceeds to talk and now directly to the first guy here. Devon tells himself that he’s going to call him Mr. Hottie Tattooie for now since he does not know his name. He is never going to speak that out loud though because that sounds like what basic white girls giving their dogs nicknames. The guy who smells like smoke, Devon decided to name him Smokey Robinson, asks if Mr. Hottie Tattooie is human but not exactly a hundred percent. Devon has deduced that much and he is interested to know what makes him not fully human. As they wait for a reply, Smokey Robison lights his own cigarette with his own fire. Devon is right then. He is something of fire-related. When Mr. Hottie Tattooiie talks to him directly, he nods his head as a reply to his question. He sees that he kind of is a little careful with his own fire. Probably not wanting to burn Devon and the other guy. So, he makes a little joke saying, “Show off,” with a playful smile on his face. Then, he looks to other guy and says, “Someone’s got tricks.” Mr. Hottie Tattooie replies that he is human but not like the humans outside of Manson. Well, implies that and Devon gets it. He says that he has a gift and reveals something about Smokey. Devon’s eyebrows raises as he hears about his kill count. “Interesting,” he says as he elongates the final syllable of the word while looking at Smokey. “What else can you do?” he asks. When Mr. Hottie Tattooie introduces himself as Sage, he secretly sighs to himself. Finally, he cn stop calling him that embarrassing nickname in his head. “I’m Devon,” he introduces himself. “Nice to see I’m not the only one addicted to nicotine in this hell hole.”

A small smile crossed the demon's face. It pleased him that the merman agreed with him on the rather shabby state of their so-called smoking lounge. The merman's mouthful of sharklike chompers made the demon laugh. "Hey, that shark impression of yours isn't half bad! But check mine out!" Ray said as he opened up his own mouth wide revealing his own set of razor sharp teeth. He didn't even need to transform them since his teeth were always sharp even in human form. The demon's eyes were also red and he has a long scar extending just below and above his left eye; a 'gift' from his evil, abusive father. It was a touchy subject for him, so he hopes no one will mention it. He hates talking about his past life as a human. Rarely were there happy times for him as a human child.
Ray watched as both the human scented guy and the fish smelling guy observed him lighting up his own cigarette using his own demon fire. What really surprised him was how absolutely unafraid they both were of his abilities. He would have thought the human scented guy in the very least would have jolted, but the guy to his great surprise didn't so much as blink. However, outside Manson's walls pretty much everyone that wasn't a demon or an angel was scared of him, so him suddenly coming across folks who aren't scared of him was certainly new and would take some getting used to. Honestly, Ray wasn't sure how to feel about encountering people not scared of him. On the one hand, it was nice having a relatively normal conversation with people not screaming their heads off trying to run away from him while on the other hand, Ray can't help having some feelings of inadequacy. Seriously, what changed? Has he just grown soft over the years and didn't even realize it or could it be he just was never that scary to begin with and people only acted scared of him to make him feel better about himself? Ray seriously hoped that was not the case and that these guys were just plain crazy to not fear him. Wait, that must be it! This is an asylum after all! Oh thank goodness, for a second there I thought I might have lost my touch, Ray thought breathing in a sigh of relief.
Then Ray realized just because they didn't fear his abilities didn't mean they weren't impressed by him. Ray smiled looking quite pleased with himself as the two watched him, impressed by his pyrokinetic abilities. The merman even went so far as to call him a show off while the human scented guy called him his own lighter; which made Ray chuckle a little. 'Well, dude's not wrong! I pretty much am my own lighter. That's why I didn't bother to steal one or buy one,' Ray thought amused by the human scented guy's words.
Ray then listened to the human scented guy's explanation of his scent. So the guy actually was a human, but with a power about him. Ray didn't understand it. Why had the staff lied to him unless they didn't really lie and meant that only normal humans weren't allowed in and oh yeah that made a lot more sense now. But what was this power of his? Ray had to know. So he sniffed at the human once more and smiled upon learning his power. But his smile quickly faded and he looked at him funny when the human mentioned his kill count. What the hell did that mean? Did he somehow know Ray was a serial killer? But Ray sensed the human's power was to see ghosts, so did that mean...? Getting paranoid, Ray looked all around him fearful he was now being watched...judged by a bunch of wrathful invisible ghosts!
Taking a large step back, Ray studied the human sizing him up. He took a long drag of his cigarette before answering the human. "My kill count?" he snorted. "You lie human. I didn't kill anybody. But I know what you are. You won't admit it, but I know you can see ghosts and I know you can communicate with them. I can sense it! Don't believe a word they are telling you about me! They're not so innocent! Horrible people they were. Wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them!" Ray was quite obviously lying about not killing anybody, but spoke the truth about the ghosts of his victims not being so innocent themselves. He only lied about not being a killer because he didn't want the two to freak out and run off from him and he feared they would if they knew just how many people he had killed over the years. Back as a human he killed maybe fifteen people including his own father then as a demon the kill count became so long that he admittedly lost count. But the number was at least in the hundreds. Ray exhaling on his cigarette looked back at the human sitting on the ground below him. "Besides, if I had actually killed someone, don't you think the staff would be smart enough to send a guard out here with me?" inquired Ray knowing full well why he had no guard. Because of this he couldn't help snickering a little.
However, the merman surprised him once again by claiming his kill count interesting. While 'interesting' wouldn't be quite the word Ray would use to describe his lengthy kill count it did tell him that the merman still didn't fear him. 'Horrific' or 'disturbing' felt much more appropriate. At the merman's inquiry of what else he could do, Ray unsure how he should respond frowned. He sighed. "Well I suppose it couldn't hurt telling you guys what I am. Probably will find out eventually anyway. Just promise me one thing first; that you won't freak out and run off," Ray began giving them both a chance to promise before continuing. He took a long drag on his cigarette while he waited for them to promise or not promise. Regardless of their reaction, Ray answered. "Well if you must know I'm a fire demon and I can sense what you both are. You're a merman and he's an Ectomancer; means he can see ghosts and talk to them. Isn't that right human?" Ray revealed looking first at the merman then at the ectomancer.
Both the merman and ectomancer formally introduced themselves as Devon and Sage respectively, so Ray felt he should follow suit. He gave the two a quick nod. "Pleasure. The name's Raymond. Friends call me Ray or at least they would if I had any friends," Ray half-jokingly introduced. He smirked at Devon's mentioning of being addicted to nicotine. "I find the word, 'addiction' to be quite negative. I prefer the term, 'recreational activity.' I see smoking as a hobby of sorts; a means to relax. I think I would go crazy if I weren't allowed to smoke. But yes, you are quite right; nicotine is quite delicious!"
ooc: Sorry for taking so long to reply you guys. Anyways, Ray has a long scar just below and above his left eye. I don't think I mentioned it in this thread yet, but felt the need to mention it here in case a character wants to ask about it. Touchy subject for Ray tho. He won't want to answer it.

Sage's sense of smell didn't go beyond smelling the smoke that was between his fingers right now, he couldn't tell the species of either of the individuals within the room but he did know that neither was human. They couldn't be.. Ray's red eyes and those teeth of Dev's, he didn't even realise that he was staring at Devon's mouth until those lips closed and the sharpened teeth disappeared from view. Not a vampire, he'd been up close and rather intimate with a vampire's fangs before and Devon was not it. Neither was Ray. Was the Ectomancer worried though? Not really, he wasn't afraid, it's difficult to be afraid of anything really when you've already been given a death sentence and you literally know that death of the body does not mean the end. Plus, Sage is usually surrounded by dead people, they're often looking exactly as they did when they died. In Manson that means a lot of bloodied bodies..
Adrian, the ghost who spends most of his time protecting Sage has a great big bloodied chunk ripped from his neck. The ectomancer is hardly phased by it at all these days.
Sage kept a little quiet, just listening to Ray deny that he even had a kill count. If Sage were the vindictive type he could bring forth just a couple of those that the guy had killed and give over enough of his own energy to make them visible to both Dev and Ray's eyes, however, instead he just took a slow toke on his cigarette and arched a brow in amusement. He wasn't put off by either the red eyes, those teeth or that vicious looking scar that marred his face, neither was he all too worried about being attacked, he'd been there, done that, was no longer bothered, "uh, if you say so dude," he spoke slowly, like one would with an angry child. He wasn't meaning to seem patronising, but Ray seemed a little hotheaded and he didn't really know what else or how else to speak to him. Hell, if it came to it Sage would quite willingly inch closer and semi-hide behind Devon. Fuck pride. "But, I ain't a liar.. 'Sides, how can you not have killed anybody but you know you have ghosts chatting crap about you?" He smirked a little and chuckled, shaking his head slightly in disbelief and amusement as he exhaled the smoke through his nose, "it's no biggie as long as you don't try and end me, but denying somethin' you know I can see is kind of dumb.."
As for the whole 'no guard' thing he didn't think that he could answer that. Maybe he just hadn't told the truth to the staff here? Or his guard was laying on the ground someplace either slowly dying or something. Sage couldn't be sure, he could have sent Ade out there to check but the spirit was off doing his own thing whilst Sage sat and fufilled his nicotine quota so that was out of the question. It was really none of his business anyway.
Sage grinned, his gaze returning to Devon at the mention of tricks, "you have anything to show off?" Ah, perhaps he needed to specify that a little though, because for some reason he just imagined lifting the guy's shirt a little and agreeing that he's worth showing off, "tricks, I mean." The ectomancer isn't quite blunt enough to full on ask 'what can you do?', they aren't performing monkey's after all. But then Ray went ahead and started explaining what he was after asking for a promise for them not to run off screaming. Sage wasn't going anywhere. And he can't remember the last time he ran. He certainly wasn't going to start now.
Fire demon. With added abilities consider what he came out with next. Not many people had even heard of an Ectomancer, many called him a medium and didn't bother learning about the difference but hey, he wasn't complaining. It was kind of refreshing. And Devon was a merman? Holy shit to the tenth degree. No wonder one of them was all scarred and hot headed and the other was, well, gorgeous for lack of a better word.
"Fire, water and the dead, don't we make a unique little trio?" He sounded as amused as he looked and he lifted his cigarette to take another toke, smiling with the stick between his lips, "but yeah, demon," he would call Ray that for as long as he referred to him as 'human', "you're right, I can contact the dead. Luckily for you I ain't rude or uncivilised, so I won't show off and drag the dead from their rest just to ask you 'why?' repeatedly. Kind of fancy taking a dip now though," he looked up to Dev, his smile turning lopsided with a touch of sheepishness, ".. Do you need to take off your pants for your tail to kind of.. form? Reappear? Magic itself back? Because I want to see that." Something he's not opposed too but it's best not to come across as too eager. "The tail! Not uh.. Well, actually, heh.." He couldn't lie, he wouldn't mind seeing his ass either.
He also kind of wanted to see if Ray had horns or some kind of forked tail.. but he was a touch offended by being called 'human' repeatedly and being called a liar. So he was holding back on asking him anything for now. Hmph, take that.

TIME
IT TOOK US TO WHERE THE WATER WAS
THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME.
Honestly, Smokey Robinson is kind of annoyingly loud but he’s harmless and kinda fun to mess around with at the moment. Devon is not sure if this guy is not use to other people around him but he is coming off kinda socially awkward with his responses. Who says ‘shark impression’ when seeing sharp teeth? He laughs inwardly to not to seem like a crazy person laughing for no reason. Smokey shows his fangs. He has red eyes that look like a very typical ‘I’m a demon so I have red eyes!’. Devon always wonder why that is. Red is not even a scary colour. And it’s very cliché basing on all the human films he has watched. Purple is where it’s at if he’s being honest. That colour has more of an eerie feel rather than a typical red. But Devon guesses demons have the eye colour first so he can’t complain. Wait, is this guy a demon? Eh, Devon has more interest in Sage right now. Also, Smokey has this scar on his face. Scars are not for Devon because he is flawless so he is not going to go there. He doesn’t know where it comes from but all of a sudden, Smokey acts defensively with the kill count comment made by Sage. Also, the way he says human in a very degrading tone does not sit well with Devon. Well, okay Devon also thinks humans are inferior and beneath him in terms of beauty, brains, everything but he also appreciates them every now and then. There is a reason why Devon has continued on staying above water and that’s because there are humans who he sees equal to him. Humans with or without power like his foster grandmother. He can confidently say that along his travels around the world, he has met humans who he thinks are superior than some powerful creatures he has seen or met. Not basing on super powers but with the overall thinking and personality. Devon has seen the good in humans so even if he still thinks he is superior than them, he has a certain respect for them and would never refer to them as ‘human’ in their faces. That’s like in a way being racist. Oh, he loves human problems. They are interesting! The colour of the skin starting wars and fights? How primitive and dumb! Sage’s response to Smokey does make Devon chuckle a little bit. Sage’s next responses are basically what Devon is thinking. When Sage says it is dumb to deny it when he basically says it himself, Devon nods to that while looking at Smokey. Listening to the dramatic defense of Smokey, Devon feels like rolling his eyes but still with a smile on his face. From his long as declamation, he basically incriminated himself by telling Sage not to believe what they’re saying or something like that. That they are not innocent. So basically, he just spoils that he is definitely a killer. But why hide it? It’s not like he’s going to get prison time or get a death penalty. Manson is literally a permanent vacation trip for people like them. Just with some prison rules here and there. “Oh babe, I think if you’re going to deny that you’re not a killer, you need to have a better spiel,” he says with a chuckle. He takes one last drag and throws away the butt. He gets another fag from his pack in his pocket and lights one up. Smokey points out about how he should have a guard with him if he really is a killer. Well, maybe he has killed the guard or he has snuck out. But Devon will rather believe someone who can see ghosts than a defensive fire starter. Smokey Robinson starts to tell them what he is. Devon is pretty sure his question is for Sage not for the other guy but he knows he cannot stop Smokey from talking and ends up not correcting him. He gives a warning to Devon and Sage. Why will Devon even run off? It’s not like he cares for whatever this guy is. Literally, he’s been in the depths of the oceans where no one has been. Not humans and not other non-water breathing creatures. He’s seen scary shit only one can imagine. Devon just replies with a shrug of his shoulder. Smokey says he’s a fire demon and can sense what people are. Okay, Devon kind of figures it out with the red eyes that he is a demon plus he has shown his fire making skills a while ago. The sensing what other people are, is very interesting. That’s a good skill to have when you are in new places so good for Smokey. He says the Devon is a merman, which is correct, and Sage is an Ectomancer. Smokey introduces himself as Ray. Well, he thinks Smokey is a better name. Devon gives him a smile and a wave and says, “Nice to meet you, Ray. You’re the first fire demon I’ve met. That’s… cool. And yes, I am a merman who likes smoking and hating on Manson. I’m a newbie here so maybe I’ll get used to its… charms?” Devon’s head twists back to stare at Sage. “An ectomancer, huh?” he asks with a smirk on his face. Mermen are curious in nature so when something interests them they do want to know more. Sage’s ask if Devon has anything to show off making it sound like an innuendo. Intentionally or not, Devon chuckles at him. He looks at him with mischief in his eyes, his voice lace with siren’s voice and asks back, “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.” When Sage mentions something about them being a unique little trio, Devon laughs. They definitely are. Of course he thinks he’s the top corner of the triangle. And then Sage put his foot in his mouth again which Devon thinks is kind of cute. “All you need to do is ask if you want to grab me by my cheeks,” he says cheekily. The innuendo is there for Sage to answer. Devon is definitely up or sitting on his… lap. Well, yeah. “And yes, I need to be fully naked or else my pants and underwear will be destroyed,” he replies. “But you didn’t answer my question Sage,” he says as he walks and then sits with his legs crossed beside Sage, the side farther to Smokey Robinson, and continues, “what else can you do?” He doesn’t really know what an Ectomancer is except for seeing the dead so he wants to know more. Devon’s skin has been glowing with an iridescent luminescence. It usually does anyway but with the sun way up in the sky, it is more prominent.

Post by RAY THOMAS FISHER on Aug 15, 2019 10:19:32 GMT 1
Poor Ray couldn't help having cliched red demon eyes. After being turned by Jerry, his once pretty green eyes turned a bright red. And while some demons have learned to change their eye colors to better suit their forms he for whatever reason couldn't. No matter how hard he tried his eyes simply remained red in all his forms; which was pretty annoying. He missed having his mother's eyes. As for his scar he didn't even earn it from a fight. His own abusive father caused the scar by cutting him with a knife. Ray hated the man more than anything even more than being locked up in Manson and collared and that's really saying something. Needless to say, Ray was relieved when neither Sage not Devon brought up his scar.
Even before Sage and Devon could respond to Ray's defensive behavior and bad lying, Ray knew only all too well that he had incriminated himself because although it certainly didn't look it, Ray had done so deliberately. You see, subconsciously at least, Ray wanted them to confront him, so he could have a chance to confess his killings to someone who wasn't all judgey and well he didn't think these guys would judge him from what he had observed. So why didn't he just admit to his killings from the getgo? Well, he could have, but Ray doesn't always care for logic and he likes the attention. It really didn't take a genius to see he had incriminated himself. But Ray wanted to let them realize he had gone through all of this on purpose, so he can get stuff off his chest without too much risk. These guys didn't look the type to go blabbing to others about him. I mean why would they? What would they even get out of it? Besides, they might forget everything he tells them anyway. Sage especially appeared to do a little bit more than just smoke cigarettes. No offense meant to him of course. If he really was the type to engage in less than legitimate drugs then Ray wasn't going to stop him. He wasn't his mother after all.
Once caught in his 'little lie' Ray frowned at the two. "Oh no you caught me telling the worst possible lie. What will I ever do? How will I ever go on?" Ray sarcastically retorted in the most uncaring tone he could muster. Taking a deep breath he sighed. "You two deserve an explanation," he said pointing a finger at both of them while exhaling on his cigarette in between breaths. "As you both know I lied, but you must understand why I did what I did. I'm not a bad person. I killed people, yes and lots of them and there's a reason for that. You see, I don't see myself as a killer, but as a hero! Those people I killed were really bad people in life. I did not lie about that. They committed the most heinous, unspeakable acts. So I did the only reasonable thing I could do. I ended their life and if given a second chance I'd do it again and again and again. Nothing would have changed. I have no regrets in ending their worthless lives. I'm damn proud of what I did! Sadly, not many people would agree with me and my reasons for killing. They think I'm crazy even though I was of sound mind when I killed those people." He paused giving Sage and Devon a chance to think about what he had just confessed. He shot them both an accusing look. "You think I'm crazy too, don't you?" he asked, paranoid. "But I'm not. I'm a hero, you know! Consider all the potential lives I saved simply by ridding the world of those awful people. A truly noble act that sadly was misconstrued as evil by the staff here and by many others outside Manson. This damned thing they stuck around my neck isn't a fashion statement you know. It's a fashion don't, but that's besides the point," Ray ranted pulling uselessly at his shock collar, clearly frustrated and annoyed by having to wear it. "I...incriminated myself on purpose. You needed to know the truth and there's no reason for me to end either of you. You haven't done anything wrong and I only kill evil people, so you and Devon over there are both good. Don't need to worry about me," Ray reassured the ectomancer while chewing nervously on his sharp claws.
Calming down a bit, Ray watched with some curiosity as Sage inquired Devon of what all a merman can do. Ray knew the basics, but didn't know everything. They didn't exactly have merpeople in Hell after all. And to Ray's genuine surprise they remained in the shed with him. Even after everything he did and said they were still there smoking and chatting it up like nothing happened. At this point, the demon didn't think they would ever run away from him. He could do and say the craziest stuff and the two wouldn't so much as flinch. Ray figured the only way to get any sort of surprised, frightened reaction from them was if he were to attack them and Ray had the feeling even if he did attack them they would likely fight back rather than flee. Then suddenly a thought of realization dawned on him. Perhaps in a weird sort of way he feared them for having no fear of him. It was irony at its best, but the little demon considered it a possibility as he continued to observe the two.
The demon listened as Sage confirmed his abilities, but then made what almost sounded like a veiled threat against him. As a demon Ray didn't take too kindly to threats especially when they are being made by some no account human. Despite that Ray wasn't angry because he knew it was his own damned fault for being a bit of a jerk to Sage. While he failed to realize Sage took offense to being called, 'human' he did realize he must have said something that upset the ectomancer. Ray was oblivious to Sage now calling him, 'demon' as payback for having called Sage human prior to learning his name. Ray didn't take offense to being called, 'demon' because that's what he was, so it didn't bother him. Besides, he had been called a lot worse than that. Now he would have taken great offense had Sage called him a 'pet' or a slave. And so Ray uttered a word he hadn't used in the longest time, 'please.' Looking up at Sage a tired sigh escaped him. "Please Sage, don't do that. It wouldn't be a very good idea. As I have said those people I've killed were all crazy dangerous while alive and they all did horrible things. So please don't bring them up here. I already told you why I killed them and I don't want to see them again. I have nothing but anger and contempt for them," Ray informed Sage in a straightforward manner. He didn't beg because there was no way he would ever beg to a mere human. Instead he was just pretty much telling the guy not to bring up the ghosts of his victims cause he hated them so.
Devon then spoke reaffirming that he is in fact a merman then he went on to say that Ray was the first demon he has ever met and that he is new. Ray smiled a little at that. "Interesting... And you're the first merman I've ever met. Hell, haven't met any merladies before either. And I'm new to this hellhole as well. I've only been here for maybe two weeks now, so don't really know a whole lot of people yet. It's nice meeting a fellow newcomer. You two are pretty much the first residents I've met and I've only met a couple of the staff. Haven't even got to meet my assigned guard yet. Been told he's too busy at the moment to meet me," Ray told Devon with a shrug. "I really hate being here that's for damn sure! I miss my...best friend and partner. We did everything together and we formed a pretty close bond. Made my life in Hell a bit more bearable. Sadly, he's not in here with me. Truth is I'm so used to him always being there and helping me that I just don't know what to do without him. I can't help feeling lonely since he isn't here with me to keep me company. I don't like that he isn't here. What if he needs my help and I can't get to him because I'm trapped in here?" He sighed. "Wherever he is. Whatever he is doing I hope he's okay." Looking back at the two he wondered if he had perhaps said too much not that he cared. He really did miss Jerry. The last he saw him he was fighting off demon mercenaries yelling at Ray to run. It was Ray's hope that he managed to escape from them. "But uh you guys probably don't want to hear all that. So um how about you? You guys miss anyone since being forced to come here? Either of you leave anyone important behind?" Ray asked feeling guilty for his long rant.
He then watched as the two were discussing Devon's merman tail and how that even works. Truth be told he too was curious about that. Then Devon said he had to be nude for his tail to emerge otherwise his clothes would be destroyed. Well that made sense. And then Ray noticed the two were flirting with one another. The demon wasn't oblivious. He could tell when people were flirting and he recognized flirtatious comments when he heard them. He had made quite a few himself throughout his many years. But now he wasn't sure what to do. He didn't want to end up as a third wheel to them and get in the way. That is unless he wound up being an actual useful third wheel by helping them find places to be alone together and keeping everyone else out. Ray casually glanced down at his cigarette. He had smoked it so much it now resembled a shriveled up prune. "Oh will you look at that! My cigarette is practically gone. So yeah if you guys need or want some alone time I can always leave. Just be sure to let me know before I start up another cigarette," he informed them as he casually tossed his old one onto the ground in front of him where he then stomped on it.
While Devon had joined Sage on the floor, Ray remained standing and little did he know an unwanted visitor was just about to arrive to make his life even more miserable. And that unwanted visitor was none other than the restless evil spirit of his abusive father. He appeared to Sage not at all caring if he had interrupted his conversation with Devon or not. He was trying to convince Sage to let Ray see him. "You there! You...you can see me, yes? Anyway, that ungrateful brat of a demon over there is or was my poor excuse for a son! He was always such a troublemaker! But never in my wildest dreams would I have thought he would have grown up to become some sort of heartless murderer. I mean what kind of heartless monster do you have to become to murder your entire family in cold blood! He didn't just kill me, but he killed his poor mother and his little sister and I was just hoping you would allow me to speak to him, so I can ask him...why? Why have you done this? Why did you destroy your own family? So please, I beg of you, help me to speak to my son one last time," Mr. Dalton lied through fake tears. The ghost was definitely lying and was trying his best to sound as pathetic as possible too in an attempt to gain Sage's sympathy.
Ray, meanwhile, had no idea that his father's evil spirit was now there for had he known he would have freaked out. Even though he committed patricide, the memories of his abusive father continue to haunt him to this very day.

Sage did indeed think that this guy was a little crazy, not because he was a demon but because he had spoken one hell of a lot about some pretty revealing and indepth things. He was a killer then.. That probably meant that the guy had escaped his guard somewhere down the line, if they knew about the people that he'd murdered then surely he'd have a guard. Really, Sage wasn't too bothered by what the other guy had done, as long as he wasn't about to murder anybody close by then he was more than content with sitting here and chatting. Running away screaming seemed like far too much effort, not to mention the amount of energy he'd need to spend for that.. No, he'd much rather sit and admire the rakishness of the demon and the ethereal beauty of the merman. It's not often an opportunity like this does arise, so sue him for sticking around to enjoy it. So.. Well, he didn't really say much about Ray's 'hero' complex. Seemed a bit delusional to him but he most definitely isn't a counsellor to sort that kind of issue out.
"Yeah.." He spoke slowly, blinking up at Ray somewhat stupidly because he really didnt know what else to say to that, "uh, I'm definitely not evil, I apologise to chairs when I walk into 'em, so.. No killing the human, eh?" He waved away the 'please don't' because he'd already admitted that he wouldn't do something like that. He doesn't like to give spirits the ability to be seen and communicate with others, or so they can touch objects and people because he's the responsible one if they do or say something awful. He's learnt that lesson and learnt it well. Plus, people who are murdered are often angry as hell, he doesn't want to pull that back into the world. No way. He has enough issues with angry spirits around Manson as it is.
The dark haired teen took another toke on his cigarette and let his gaze roam back up to the Devon, he hadn't realised immediately but the guy was glowing. Actually glowing, like he'd swallowed the moon or something. It made Sage wonder if that was something that he could switch on and off, or if it were something that he was stuck with. Did it help with deep water? Sage wanted to see. Not stick him in a bath and turn the lights out, but actually go swimming someplace, possibly at night. But he could wait, for now though he wanted to touch the merman, an urge that was only multiplied by the coersion pushed into Devon's voice. Sage wasn't aware that the aquatic guy was doing anything like that, but neither would he probably care. If somebody was paying attention to him then he was pretty damn pleased about it. For somebody who's surrounded by dead people a lot of the time he's awfully lonely really, a tad starved for actual physical attention.
Probably why he was hoping he didn't end up being left sat here on his own.. Though, he did think that Devon was maybe at least a little interested, why else would he sit so near him?
"Oh.. Uh, I don't have anybody," he answered Ray with a sort of sheepish smile, "there was just me, my sister and my mum.. Heather's dead and mum probably doesn't even know I've disappeared so nobody important left behind." He did have a half brother in Manson, but Sage wasn't entirely aware of that yet. He'd met Sorrel, but had no idea that the fellow Ectomancer shared the same dad as him, "sorry you've got somebody to miss, I bet that sucks.." He actually sounded geuinely sorry. Sage is a nice guy, he has empathy for miles.. But he also has a lot of love for family. Murdering them shouldn't be a thing.. So, whilst his cheeks pinkened at Devon's innuendo he obviously was aware of the extra individual entering the smoking shed. Inwardly he sighed, outwardly his smile widened a little, "you'll have to show me sometime because I definitely have to see all of that."
Sage was awkward enough that he was not answering Ray's offer to leave, because he wasn't going to even assume that there was something there. Probably wouldn't until Devon makes an actual move. So far he's pretty sure the merman's just being friendly?
The spirit's words made Sage's attention turn away from Devon and he ended up looking up at the man with a light frown on his lips. Ray had killed his sister? But he wasn't going to give this spirit what he wanted, he'd heard such stories before from the dead and he knew better than anybody that they would literally say anything in order to get a little more time being 'alive'. And he didn't like the look of this guy either. Devon's question reached his ears once more, a distant voice but heard none the less and subconsciously he reached out and curled his fingers over the merman's leg, for a little courage more than anything else. He had thought that question had been for Ray before, but he'd answer it now, "I can communicate with the dead.. Make them visible," the cool whisper of his ability blew like a soft breeze from his body and the crying ghost of Ray's dad would slowly appear into view, though he had no tangibility and even though his mouth was moving neither Dev nor Ray would hear a thing. Sage had granted him only the slightest bit of energy, not enough to do anything dramatic.
"And if they're supernatural spirits.. I can take them into me and use their ability as my own," but he doesn't really like doing that all too much, considering the last time a spirit he hadn't known had gotten inside of him (due to staff drugging him and destroying his mental shields) he'd massacred a bunch of people. And he can call upon them like an army if he so wished.. He had the power to do so, just not the evil little inclination so he left that unsaid too, "that's his father," he gestured to the the spirit and then let his gaze roam over to Ray, where he frowned, "is he right? Did you kill your sister, Ray?"

Post by DEVON MAHELONA KELI'I on Aug 18, 2019 11:01:26 GMT 1
Devon just doesn’t get where Ray, the fire demon, gets these entire diva attitude from because it is coming out of nowhere. Doesn’t he get that the response about him lying is not anything accusatory but just like a laugh because he fails miserably? He thinks that this confirms how socially awkward he is and does not get out a lot of his room or house or wherever he used to sleep in Manson and before that since demons are from hell and he doesn’t know if they have beds and mattresses down there. That will be a good question for Ray but as he thinks about asking Ray the silly question in his mind, which Devon is hesitant to ask since Ray goes on full dramatic on everything so far, the fire demon starts trying to explain why he lies and everything. Devon looks at him incredulously as he keeps on talking and talking and talking. He also starts his explanation with something like they deserve an explanation, him and Sage. Devon cackles to himself without showing it on his face because he doesn’t think he, he doesn’t know about Sage because they have more interactions than Devon, deserves and wants an explanation. Also, by more conversations, he means Sage has uttered more words to him than Devon has. Also, this explanation is so long he can probably write a novel. Devon is barely listening to the fire demon as he babbles on about things but he does give Ray the respect he deserves so Devon just looks at Ray straight into his face. The space between his eyes to be exact is where he is staring at pretending he is listening intently to him. He continuously nods his head and making affirmation sounds as if he gets what Ray is trying to justify. He does hear some of it though like how he says he’s a hero. Twice. Then he proceeds to say that he incriminates himself on purpose and that Devon and Sage are all good and he’s not going to hurt them. Honestly, Ray is so amusing. He’s like something you don’t like to have but you keep it around because even if it bugs you it still amuses you from time to time. Devon doesn’t really care and is not scared of a fire demon. They’re overrated and the only reason nobody fucks with them, according to his witch grandmother, is that because they throw demon tantrums and everything and it’s just exasperating. Devon used to laugh at that statement but this fire demon is kind of making his grandmother right. Damn his grandmother for being right most of the time. Devon then just continues to nod. He has nothing to say really. Being a merman makes him want all the attention for himself and from what he hears, there is nothing about him that’s important in the long ass declamation. Devon tries to think of something to say he does. Trying to be articulate is kind of hard at the moment. He opens his mouth and what comes out is, “Heroes don’t have the need to be known as heroes, they just do what heroes must be done.” His eyes are a bit unfocus from staring at the space between Ray’s eyes. He shakes his head a little and then says, “By Shannon A. Thompson. Yes, I see now what she means.” He gives Ray a tight smile. Devon then laughs at Sage’s reply. He says that he is definitely not evil and that he even apologises to chairs when he walks into them. “Well, I don’t like hearing apologies inside the bedroom,” he tells Sage cheekily and then winks at him. After that, he listens to Ray and Sage have a conversation which is a good thing for him. Devon grabs his last fag inside his pack and then throws the pack to the garbage can. Of course it doesn’t go in but who the fuck cares. He tries to block their conversation and tries not to hear anything because he doesn’t really give a shit. He inhales the smoke form the cigarette and lets it stay for five seconds then blows it out slowly out of his nostrils and mouth. He can’t help it though as some of the conversation slips into his ear and apparently they are talking about family or something. Dead ones, he thinks. Something he doesn’t like to join for sure for two reasons. One, he doesn’t care about other people’s dead family members or whatever and two, Devon is not ready to talk about his grandmother. The only person he cares about in the world. Anyway, he just continues to smoke his cigarette and waits until there’s a new topic. He does hear Ray asking them if there’s someone they miss or something and he thinks Sage has finished replying to the fire demon so as a respect to the both of them, not that he cares about giving respect, he just says, “The only thing I miss is a nice place to have a fag.” Ray hints at trying to give them space because he is not naïve that is for sure. He may be socially awkward but he probably knows when two people are trying to flirt with each other. Devon doesn’t care either way if he goes or not but he likes having someone there to watch him. He does like it when there’s an audience. Well, not inside the bedroom but yes. “Well, if you’re ever so kind, I do need some more cigarettes. I can’t be assed to go back to the dorms to get my other pack but if you have some left or know where to get more, bless you,” he says sweetly. After Sage and Ray’s heart to heart conversation, or so he thinks, Sage replies to Devon about his inquiry with his tail. Devon chuckles at him as the image of Sage pounding him out crosses his mind quickly and then disappearing. “”Sure, why not?” he tells him. Then, Sage continues talking as he answers the questions about his powers. As he does, Sage curls him hand around Devon’s leg and that makes Devon smirk. He’s bringing out the pervert in this one as he always does being that beautiful plus the additional help of him being a merman. He decides to call that allure as merman or mermaid aura. Sage says that he can communicate with the dead and also make them visible. Sage looks at him and hums as a reply showing the other man that he’s impressed with that. Devon’s aunt has friends who can communicate with the dead but they have to do a ritual and sometimes an exchange. Some kind of witch magic probably. He thinks maybe Devon is somehow part of a witch lineage but as he thinks this one ghost slowly becomes visible to Devon’s eyes. “Oh, cool!” he whispers. He doesn’t need to do rituals or spells to summon them apparently. Sage is more powerful than he says he is. The ghost is just opening his mouth as if he is talking but no words are coming out of his mouth. While still looking at the ghost, Devon asks Sage, “Is he mute?” This idea gets crossed off as he notices he is not moving his hands to do sign languages. Weird. He does kind of look like someone he knows or maybe he is just imagining things. Sage then continues to explain his powers as he says that when the spirit or ghost is a supernatural, he can take them into him and use their powers. That is a very great power to have. Imagine having a powerful spirit that you can use. Sage is basically a human vessel for powerful creatures but he is the one in control. This makes him sexier in Devon’s eyes. His power is fascinating and not basic. If Sage tries to be powerful if he wants to, he can be a really dangerous human. Now that is something Devon may be tempted to be scared of but he doesn’t really fear anything. Everyone has a weakness especially with his siren voice. Mind control, bitch. He’ll just make everyone kill themselves if he wants or needs to. It’s not about posturing for him because that just shows how insecure someone is. Devon doesn’t pretend he’s weak but he doesn’t give away how he can just put his merman aura in max setting or his siren voice too. Devon looks at Sage and says, “That just turned me on, to be honest.” He tries to say this with a straight face and he thinks he succeeds in doing so. Sage then proceeds to tell him that the ghost is Ray’s father. Devon raises one of his brows as he is curious why Sage chooses to summon Ray’s father. Probably from the dead relatives conversation but he doesn’t know nor care. He likes the fact that he summons someone that can make their day interesting. The three of them of course. He wonders how Ray will react as he looks at the ghost with intent. Oh, he does kind of look related to Ray. Maybe that is what he is thinking a while ago as he thinks that the ghost reminds him of someone. Sage surprises him even more when he asks if the ghost of Ray’s father is right. Right about what? Well, about Ray killing his own sister. Devon lets out an obnoxiously fake gasp and looks at Ray accusingly. He does not really care if Ray did it. Devon just likes the drama that is about to ensue. “Sister killer,” he whispers slowly but it is loud enough for the two other guy to hear. Devon is honestly just there to fuel this drama because it is fun. Not as fun as the image of Devon by the wall as Sage continues to wreck him. Oh well, beggars can’t be choosers. |

Post by RAY THOMAS FISHER on Aug 24, 2019 10:58:31 GMT 1
After explaining to his fellow smokers why he killed people thus unintentionally revealing his hero complex, Ray couldn't help noticing Sage's somewhat nervous reaction. Was that genuine fear he sensed or was it merely pretend? If it was genuine fear on Sage's face then he at last had finally received the reaction he had wanted all along. So why did he suddenly feel so bad about it? Oh yeah because Sage seemed to be a pretty good guy who certainly didn't deserve to be tormented and bullied by anyone. 'Damn my stupid inferior human emotions! They always get in the way of my fun,' Ray grumbled to himself with a sigh. The demon had calmed down quite a bit.
Hoping to reassure the ectomancer, Ray approached Sage. He took a deep breath. "Hey, look man I'm not going to hurt you, so don't even worry about it, dude and Sage this isn't exactly easy for me to say because I'm not used to...apologizing to people, but I'm...sorry for calling you a liar earlier even though I knew you weren't lying. So yeah sorry about that and everything else. I know I can be a real pain in the butt sometimes, but that's only because I'm not used to hanging around non-demons. I'm not oblivious! In hell it's eat or be eaten. You gotta be the meanest, nastiest guy in the room or the other demons will eat you alive," Ray apologized just before moving onto a story and pausing for effect. He wanted to give the horrifying mental image of demons eating each other alive a chance to sink in before moving on. "True story. I totally seen it happen and let me tell you, it ain't a pretty sight. Some of them even tried to eat me if you can believe it! Me! But then I showed them how evil I was and they backed down like you wouldn't believe. Then my partner showed up and beat the crap out of them. You should have seen it! It was awesome! Afterwards we ate them and before you ask why it was because we were hungry, Plus they were jerks anyway," Ray very calmly and casually revealed as though cannibalism was completely normal.
Ray couldn't help laughing at the mental image of Sage apologizing to chairs as he bumps into them. "That's a good one, dude! Oh man I have almost forgotten how funny you humans can be," Ray said in between laughter meaning it as a compliment as he gave Sage a friendly slap on the back.
Then he heard Devon share with them a quote about how real heroes only do what needs to be done and don't expect any sort of 'thank you' in return. If the fire demon didn't know any better he'd swear this was a jab at him, but that would just be plain crazy since he really was a hero of sorts. Ray frowned at the merman's smile. "But I really was a hero. In life I always tried to do the right thing by helping others and saving lives and not once did I expect anything in return for my efforts. Though a little recognition here and there would have been nice. Annnnd what does she mean by that anyway? The writer I mean whose quote you found," Ray asked the merman.
While it didn't always look it, Ray had observed Devon while he had been talking and Ray couldn't help noticing that the merman seemed a bit distracted. "Uh Devon are you feeling okay? Your eyes are kind of going all over the place," Ray asked, concerned.
Ray noticed he wasn't the only one that found Sage's chair joke humorous. The merman was also laughing. Ray laughed again. Whoever claimed laughter was contagious wasn't kidding. "I know, right? This guy's awesome," Ray said wiping a tear from his eye from laughing so hard. He then gave Sage yet another friendly slap on the back. Ray stopped laughing once the merman made yet another flirtatious comment to Sage; which only made Ray feel all the more awkward since he was within earshot of all this. Ray's left eye twitched in response.
The demon also noticed the merman's skin glowing; which he supposed was pretty cool. His skin reminded him of the twinkling stars dancing against the darkness of the night sky. Ray wondered if Sage was going to ask Devon about his skin and when it looked like he wasn't, Ray took it upon himself to ask because he had to know. He was just so damn curious. "Say Devon I couldn't help noticing that your skin is glowing as bright as an evening star and I just have to know, is that normal? Does all merpeople skin glow the way yours does? You're the first merman I've met, so just wondering for future reference and for the record, I think it is pretty fly," the demon inquired unaware that his slang was a tad out of date.
After sharing with Sage that he had someone close to him on the other side to miss, the ectomancer had went on to tell him that his sister was dead and that his mom doesn't know of his whereabouts and the demon knowing all too well what that's like feels bad for him. "Oh I'm sorry about that. I know what it's like to lose somebody close to you. For me it was my mom. She was...murdered by...well... I don't want to talk about it. But I am sorry about your sister. Just know we are here for you dude," Ray assured the ectomancer, referring to himself and Devon. His mother was a touchy subject for him. He almost never talked about her because it is difficult for him to. He even blames himself for not being able to save her from his father even though he was just a kid and therefore incapable of overpowering his father. Ray smiled a bit at Sage's attempt to comfort him. "Yeah, thanks man. Appreciate it."
Devon, on the other hand, admitted to missing nobody. Ray couldn't tell if that was sad or not. So Ray went with sad. "I'm sorry you don't have anyone on the outside waiting for you. That must really suck," Ray informed the merman trying his best to sound compassionate.
And as Sage and Devon continued to flirt with one another it became quite clear to him that he was likely either going to be forcibly dragged out of the shed by an angry guard or leave it alone. He didn't want to be alone, but that's what it was looking like to him. Sage didn't reply to his offer to leave, but Devon did ask him for some cigarettes. To him it had third wheel job written all over it.; which made the demon grumble. Ray, suddenly, regretted not nicking the cigarettes from his guard's pocket after knocking him out. But he wanted to make it seem as though he fell asleep on the job, so he left everything in the guard's pockets as to avoid suspicion. Pulling out his own pack of cigarettes he counted only eight remaining cigarettes. Looking back at the merman he sighed. "Well, unfortunately I don't have an extra pack on me, but you can have a few of mine. I'd get you a full pack if I could, buuuuut if I leave here I doubt I'd be able to return...in the same day. I'd likely be stopped by a guard and...punished for ditching my other guard who I assure you merely fell asleep while watching me. So while I'd love to get you a fresh pack my hands are tied. But as I said you can have a few of mine," Ray admitted offering the merman four of his remaining cigarettes.
As Ray lit up a second cigarette, he observed Sage rubbing on Devon's leg and he couldn't help feeling a bit jealous. The demon began to wonder what the merman had that he didn't. Oh yeah, a long, fishlike tail. 'Yeah, well big deal. I have horns and wings, so there,' Ray thought as he smoked his cigarette. Then Sage began to discuss his powers further in depth. Ray had to admit that Sage's ability to control ghosts like puppets fascinated him. He felt both fearful and...attracted to such power. But the human made his choice and the demon was not about to get in the middle of it.
Ray was just about to verbally concur with Devon about Sage's powers being cool when whom should Sage have summoned up to show off his power, but that of Sam Dalton, the evil, restless spirit of Ray's own father. Ray froze like a deer caught in headlights. He was hyperventilating and sweat dripped off his face, but he was too scared of his father to move even an inch. Ray's eyes were opened wide with fear and he saw that his father was speaking or at least trying to. But confusingly enough no sound came out. Even so, Ray knew what the guy was saying for he could lip read. It was a useful skill he had picked up during his time as a detective and ever since then he had only gotten better at it. In this situation, however, Ray saw his ability as both a curse and helpful. He did not want to know what his father was saying and yet at the same time he did. Ray couldn't understand it though. Of all the ghosts Sage could have summoned to use as an example of his power why did he go with the one he hated the most? Just why? Then Ray wondered if Sage was doing this as a way to get him back for something though Ray couldn't figure out what. Then again how did Sage manage to summon up his father when Ray didn't even tell him his father's name much less anything about him? So if not payback then why? Truly his father had to be the worst ghost you could summon!
Mr. Dalton just grinned deviously at his son. He delighted in the fact that his son still feared him. "Hello...son. Miss me?" Dalton said with a laugh. The ghost was just about to walk towards Ray when he overheard Devon asking Sage if he was mute; which offended the vile ghost. Dalton ran up to him. "I am not mute you fish lipped fool!" Dalton growled unaware that Sage muted him.
At the sudden accusation of murdering his sister, Ray snapped himself out of it. "NO!" he screamed. "I would never ever hurt my sister! I loved her far too much. She was my best friend growing up. I could never hurt her. Not in a million years! Sage, you gotta believe me," reassured Ray in a pleading tone. "And you!" Ray shouted in an accusing tone pointing at his father glaring daggers at him. "How dare you lie to Sage telling him that I killed my own sister! That is...that is a new low for you! No, wait, you went far lower before. Still, you make me sick! I can't even look at you right now. Oh and by the way, just so you know Devon can't hear you right now thanks to I'm guessing Sage," Ray confronted with clenched fists. He looked as though he wanted to kill his father all over again. Dalton only smirked in response. "Consider yourself real lucky then fish boy! Lucky for you I am far more interested in teaching my son here some manners!"
And with that the ghost charged full speed at Ray with intent to possess the demon. At the very last minute, Ray jumped out of the way. He yelled at Sage. "Get rid of him right now! He's dangerous!" he called out to Sage in warning. While he waited for Sage to act, Ray continued to dodge his father with the ghost trying desperately to take possession of his son. "Just hurry Sage! I don't know how much longer I can keep dodging!"

No apologies in the bedroom.. Well okay. Sage's cheeks reddened a little at that statement but he grinned back and rubbed at the back of his neck somewhat awkwardly. He lacks confidence when he's not got a drink, right now would be a time when he'd take a swig and say something in return but without the safety net of his drink it's very much just him and his personality and the human doesn't put much stock into himself on the best of days. Good thing he's such a responsive person really. He's distracted again by Ray who's apologising to him? It wasn't really necessary.. And Sage would have told him that but then the demon went on to paint a wider picture of what life was like down in hell and holy fucking fuck! He'd eaten other demons?! That as cannibalism, it was messed up as hell and the Ectomancer just opened and closed his mouth like a dumbass fish for a moment, but said nothing. What could he say? At this stage he didn't want to upset Ray because he was close by now.
And he slapped him on the back in a friendly manner. Which jolted him out of his quiet and he gave a slightly strained, uneasy smile. He was feeling a little bit queasy now with the mental image of Ray stripping an arm of flesh in his mind, Sage has seen some things in his life but damn. That was a sickening thought. But now he was too wary to ask Ray to not touch him. Especially since he was now laughing and joking about forgetting how funny humans can be. Way to make him feel more alien than ever before.
"Yeah.. We're a hoot." And hopefully that'd be enough to not be killed. Ray might be all apologetic and friendly now but this human was a little worried about being a meal now. And not even in a fun, being tossed around under the waves by a merman kind of way. Now there was fear in his heart and he sat finishing his cigarette in silence, not knowing what to say because he really had absolutely no clue what to say. He wasn't thinking past 'how can I get away?' really. Maybe if he made a break for it across the lawns Dutch might be flying about someplace and rescue him from the danger he perceived himself to be in. Or to the lake even. Fire demons and water probably don't go together and he knows the nymph there's friendly enough, she covered him in a blanket of plants when he'd fallen asleep on the shore one evening so she'd help him..
Really he couldn't get past the whole cannibalism thing.
His gaze went to Devon again, hoping that he'd read the awkwardness and the cry for help there. Sage wanted out of there now.. So, he kind of missed the fear on Ray's face after he made his father appear, but he did pay attention to Dev's 'sister' killer comment and he took that moment to half crawl and half scoot closer to Devon instead before using the wall to pull himself to his feet. Sitting on the floor just seemed stupid now so yes, he was standing up with the guy who he'd apparently 'turned on' now between himself and the demon. Which was when Ray started shouting at him and then at his own father.
The ectomancer was tempted to leave both Ray and the ghost and to make a getaway, he needed a nice stiff drink right about now. But then the spirit was being cruel to Dev before going on to threaten to possess the fire demon. Sage sighed and watched the drama for all of five seconds before snapping his fingers and caused the spirit to pretty much get ejected from the immediate area. Like an elasticated rope had been attached to it's waist and yanked him back to wherever the hell he'd disappeared too. He couldn't help but give just a little, somewhat empty laugh, "sorry.. I, uh, I mean he told me some things before I .. Sorry."
He chewed on his bottom lip for a moment before awkwardly glancing at the door, "I think I had an appointment today.. Should probably get going before some other ghost shows up. I'm a bit of a shining beacon of light for them all, probably should have mentioned that. And no offence, but I've had enough angry, murdered spirits to deal with to literally last me a lifetime. See you around sometime?" He glanced at Dev and offered a slightly warmer, but still faint smile, "I'll see you around sometime? For that swim?" He'd wait for a response before he makes a hasty exit. Hopefully a number. Or a room number.. Or a time to meet someplace at the lake. Sage isn't fussy, but he's under the impression he's caused enough trouble now, he doesn't want to get eaten.
The somewhat cowardly kid is leaving before things really turn tits up. Plus. He needs that drink to calm his shaking nerves.

Post by DEVON MAHELONA KELI'I on Aug 24, 2019 14:31:57 GMT 1
Devon is actually getting bored of what’s happening in the shed because he wants everything to be all about him as usual. His Narcissistic Personality Disorder is just making him feel like nothing at this moment is worth listening to because one, it’s not about him and two, yeah it’s not really about him. He can hear Ray just talking and talking about things he doesn’t care about. Devon is not hearing anything about how magnificent he is or how he is the best thing here in the world so this is just not making him want to join any conversation. He just starts singing Lizzo in his head. He plays Cuz I Love You and singing it in his head. He knows he can totally slay this song because as a merman, he has the gift of having an amazing voice even without using his siren voice. Also, Devon is just totally in love with Lizzo. He wants to be friends with her because she is an awesome person and she is just so confident about herself. Her voice is amazing too as a singer and a rapper. Devon and Lizzo have those in common so that’s already a reason why they need to be best friends. Also, her song just slaps so much. Devon can play her whole album on loop the whole day and he won’t get tired of it. Lizzo is a Goddess and that’s that on that. When Ray replies to his hero quote thing, he explains that he really is a hero and he deserves recognition and more explanation. Devon just thinks that this guy can’t formulate sentences that can just immediately point out his reasoning. Instead, Ray will go on and on until he makes all his point and Devon has no attention span for long explanation unless it really is something he has interest in like topics like… Devon and beauty and the ocean. Devon just sighs inwardly and replies to Ray, “Well, she means that a hero does not announce he’s a hero if he really is one. It’s not about recognition especially coming from the person itself.” And Devon believes that to be honest. Okay, you feel like a hero. Good for that person. But Devon thinks telling people they are heroes is just so attention seeking and comes off as confirmation or self-worth. Devon will consider someone a hero if he that person walks the walk and not just talks the talk. Seeing is believing and all that shit. Also, he notices that Sage is just uncomfortable with all these random ass trivia that Ray is spewing. Cannibalism? Really? Devon doesn’t care about that to be honest and he isn’t grossed out by it because humans and supernaturals are into weird shit but poor Sage is just looking uncomfortable about this topic. Even his reply just sounds like he is so not into the topic. And then Ray just says something about his eyes just going all over the place. All over the place. Does he know what he implies with that? Devon wonders if Ray’s first language because if it is, that just offends Devon. There is not even a metaphor about eyes saying going all around unless it is a literal one meaning Devon looks like he is being exorcised or he has crazy eyes. Devon is taking his time to reply to that because honestly, Devon may start hurting some feelings like he does because he is usually a mean bitch. Also, Devon takes great offense in that because it relates to his physical appearance and Devon thinks he is nothing but perfect. Devon just nods his head and says, “Uh-huh.” Devon needs to just shut up right now or he may start spewing out words he is probably not going to regret but he is trying to be nice and that is just so hard for him. Devon also doesn’t understand why Ray is laughing so hard at Sage’s joke. It is funny but it’s not that funny. Devon feels really awkward at that moment since he is kind of making the vibe awkward. He looks like he’s trying too hard too hard which is just making Devon cringe on the inside. There is more talking that’s happening but Devon barely tries to listen anymore. He doesn’t have a cigarette now and even if Ray is offering his, Devon is just done for the day with… everything. Well, except Sage because he wants to ride him and make the poor guy squirm. Devon then sees this demon and father spirit debacle. He usually loves the drama of it all but this one is makes him roll his eyes. He’s not into this kind of drama where there is a ghost who he cannot hear the voice but keeps giving him weird looks. Ew, pervert much? And then there’s Ray trying to dodge the fuck out of whatever the ghost is doing. This can be amusing but it just looks… weird. Sage suddenly makes the ghost disappear which makes everything so anti-climactic and also not worth staying for. Devon plans on dipping out and just leaving Sage his room number so Sage can fuck his brains out which is the only thing he likes about this stay in the shitty smoking shed. Ray just bothers him right now with the comment about his eyes but he is not a bad person. Devon will not probably seek for his company but he will not say no to another encounter if it happens. The fire demon just needs to work on his people skills like learn when to not overshare and stuff because people sometimes just don’t care about random tidbits unless they ask the question. As Devon is about to find a way to ditch them both, Sage goes on first saying he has an appointment today. Damn, that sexy ghost summoning man with probably a big d- deer in the headlights look when Devon flirts with him. Stealing his thunder like that. Devon finds him even sexier now for some reason. Or maybe he’s just really horny. Either way, when Sage says that he will see Devon around and also talking about their swim, Devon pulls his arms and whispers into his ear his room number. Devon lightly licks the lobe of his ear and sucks on his stud then lets go of Sage. Devon chuckles as he stands up and brushes his ass because that place is just dirty as fuck. “I’m actually going too because I need to get some tan by the pool before it gets dark. Au revoir!” Devon waves at the two guys as he walks away from the shed. He needs to find a new place to smoke since that rickety ass poor excuse of a shed is probably going to fall down on him one day and that is not going to be a good look on Devon and his pretty face. |
