TIME IT TOOK US TO WHERE THE WATER WAS
THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME. New life. He knows it is all bullshit. This school seems to be offering nothing to him at the moment. Ever since his acceptance in this place, which is yesterday morning by the way, nothing seems to look satisfying for him. Being cooped up in this place kind of makes Devon feel claustrophobic. He wants to go and see the world but following the only person he trusts in his life is what is stopping him. He sighs as he continues to walk aimlessly. Feeling the right side pocket of his shorts, Devon thinks about smoking a fag but quickly realising that it isn't allowed to smoke in where he is. He lets that thought go and groans. An idea hit him all of a sudden. He remembers that there is a lake here according to the map he has. He quickly opens it and decides that he should just head there.
It took him a few minutes but Devon thinks it is worth it. When he sees the lake, he lets out an exaggerated moan. "Finally," he says, "A place where I can enjoy in this shithole." Readying himself to sit down on the grass, he slowly bends his knees so he can be in an indian sitting position. The wind blows and Devon brushes his hair backwards. He inhales the fresh air and exhales slowly. He can get used to this place, he thinks. Nope, he is not going to dive and let his tail out. Not yet.
Devon is not a loner type of person. He loves the attention and basks in it. But right now, he is the new kid in town and making friends seems like a chore as of the moment. He wonders if he should just hang around and let his merman allure to humans do all the work. Although, this place is not relly filled with humans. That is discovery he likes and hates. His power works 100% with humans but with other species and creatures, it will be a battle of wills. Devon knows he has a strong grip with his powers if and when he wants to but a fight is not worth it if it means he has to mess up his hair and clothes for it. His looks are his money maker.
He wonders if there are other merfolk or sea creatures here too. That thought makes him think of his pod. He has never thought of them for a long, long time. He doesn't regret the decision he made years go but he wonders how his parents are. What about Hirie? Does she have a big family now with little mer-babies? Is Moui still living in the pod he got transferred to? He lets out a sigh and shakes his head. Better stop thinking about that, he tells himself. Now, he just wants to create a game plan in this horror theme park- he meant school. Tapping his finger on the ground, Devon's mind starts to wander to all the possibilities.

The worst of the heatwave seemed to have passed, so Ida was content spending her days studying again. She no longer felt at risk of drying out if she spent a few hours on land at a time, though she hadn't exactly spent her morning studying today. No, she'd spent her morning hours wandering the grounds barefoot and in her newly acquired bikini. Apparently even sirens had to wear swimsuits in the pool... So as she ventured back home, eating a sandwich she'd put together in the cafeteria using her own meat supply, she wasn't overly surprised to find they had visitors. Finishing up the last little nibble of her human sandwich, she smiled at the man. "What are you doing on the side of the lake?" she asked. "The water is amazing." She didn't understand why people would sit by the lake and not just jump in. Especially when the water wasn't freezing cold. As if to prove her point, Ida dove into the water, careful not to make too much of a splash, and emerged a few feet into the lake. Her slightly tan human skin soon replaced by fish-like scales and her pretty human appearance being replaced by the predator that she truly was. Sharp teeth, sharp claws, but still smiling at the stranger. "Promise not to bite," she said, chuckling slightly.

IT TOOK US TO WHERE THE WATER WAS
THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME.
“What are you doing on the side of the lake?” Devon startles a little bit but he does not worry. He turns his head to where the voice comes from and sees a girl. She is pretty for sure. Supernaturally pretty. Not as pretty as himself, he thinks. He cocks his head curious about her. Squinting his eyes just a bit, he does not reply to her. Although, he doesn’t have to as she continues on to talk. “The water is amazing,” she continues on. He turns his head back to the lake and quietly agrees. The water does look amazing but in this kind of place, a school for troubled supernaturals, it is not safe yet. He is not dumb. He needs to know if the territory has already a tenant. Water creatures like him are quite territorial and then add troubled to that is just asking for trouble if he trespasses. As he is about to tell him what he just thought, the lady dives into the water like she lives in it. Maybe she does. Maybe she is the one who has claimed the territory. Devon thought that maybe she is also a creature of water like him. And as he focuses his sight on her in the water, Devon’s face forms a big smile. The lady has scales all over her and has grown sharp fangs and claws. She cracks a joke about not biting which makes Devon laugh happily. He stands up and comes nearer to the water with his hands resting on his hips as he says, “Biting is fine but I must tell you that I am more acquainted to the male sex.” He gives another grin but now with his own fangs. This makes his skin more luminescent than it usually is when he is in his human form. “Are you a fellow merfolk?” he asks. Devon does not want to assume that she is. There are many kinds of creatures under water and sometimes even the same creatures have different names, biology, powers, and more. Not all merfolks are the same. Not all krakens are the same and so on and so forth. It is better to be respectful to fellow water creatures. He usually is not this nice to others but seeing someone like her is kind of a relief in this new environment he is in. He decides that he should ask if it is all right for her to swim in her territory but she already kind of given him the permission to. So, he strips of all of his clothes and jump in the water. The lake is not salt water so he wills himself to transform to his tail. His iridescent grey tail came through as his legs disappear. Swimming slowly, Devon closes his eyes and feels the water. It feels great to be in the water. He swims nearby the lady and then smiles at her. “My name is Devon,” he says, “and you are?”

To Ida, it seemed unfathomable that someone would just sit at the edge of the lake like that when it was a good day for a swim. Sure, it wasn’t sweltering hot anymore, but it wasn’t an unpleasant time to go for a swim either. Most people seemed to just dive in after all, no concern about Kaia or herself. Then again, they had places to retreat to if people were too much, so Ida found she more often than not enjoyed company. As long as they didn’t find her stash. Her tail might not be as beautiful as the mermaids in the movies or on TV, but it was efficient. It cut through the water like nothing else when she needed to go somewhere fast and the somewhat sharper edges were a deterrent for sharks and the likes to try to bite her. Though if they did, she’d bite right back. She might not have as big of a mouth as an actual shark, but she could wound them right back if they tried to eat her so they seemed to have developed a mutual understanding over the years of avoidance. The fact that this guy wasn’t deterred at all and seemed excited to see her true form made her grin slightly. Even more so when she saw his fangs too. “In that case, I’ll be gentle,” she teased, winking at him when he said he was more acquainted with males. “It’s not my lake, so you’ve got nothing to worry about in that regard either,” she said, trying to reassure him. Sure, she might live there, but she didn’t want to put Kaia off by starting something in the lake that probably was better suited for the ocean or somewhere private anyway. “Siren, technically,” she replied, appreciating the question. It was polite and straight to the point and she could appreciate that about a person. Watching him transform at well, she was pleased when he swam nearby like that. “I’m Ida,” she informed him. “I live here, well, rent space I suppose is more accurate. The lake belongs to a nymph, but as long as you don’t eat all the fish, the platypus or her, I know she doesn’t mind company.” Kaia was too friendly to mind company when Devon seemed so nice, so Ida didn’t think it was wrong to inform him of the nymph too.

He decides that he likes this girl. The way she banters off of him reminds him of his two friends back when he is still with his pod. That is a good sign since he does not want to not like her being a fellow water creature. Also, it is a relief to Devon that he does not need to worry about swimming in the lake. It’s not like he is going to ruin the lake. All bodies of water is a water creature’s haven in his opinion. That is why he likes torturing humans before he got to Manson. They are trying, no succeeding, to destroy the oceans, seas, etc. Thank goodness for them that they haven’t explored the whole ocean. Yet. Maybe one day, all of them living underwater will retaliate. “Siren, technically,” she answers Devon’s question. He has never met a siren before, to be honest. Not that he remembers nor tries to figure out. He has travelled a lot around the world meeting different creatures and species. Sometimes, he sees them in their natural forms but never really dives deep to which specific creature they are. He gives her an accessing look trying to figure out how they differentiate from the merfolk, mermaids specifically. “What’s the difference between a siren and a mermaid?” he asks. “Änd are there male sirens too?” She introduces herself to Devon as Ida then proceeds to tell him that a nymph owns the lake. She makes a joke about not eating all the fish, a platypus (there’s one around here, he guesses?), and the nymph herself. “I have never eaten another creature except for fowls,” he says randomly. His pod has a diet of eating fowls and seaweed. They aren’t the carnivorous pod but they are still predators. I guess you can say they only play with their food pertaining to other creatures. Devon looks at Ida and asks jokingly, “How do humans and other creatures taste like? And will I absorb their beauty? Not that I, or we in this case, need it.” It is weird acting nice and friendly. Devon guesses his crazy does not come out when he is with other merfolk. Or maybe he is just being observant about it so it does not come out. He shrugs to himself not caring. Maybe humans do bring out the worst in everybody. Scums of the earth, to be honest. He swims below and then rushes back up to do a flip. It feels good to just play around again and not worry about being human or responsible. He wipes his face with his webbed fingers and asks Ida, “Also, is the nymph a water nymph? And are you close?” He makes a ‘light-bulb-Eureka!-face’ and exclaims, “Are you two together?” He gives Ida a smirk. Merfolk has a tendency- oh let’s be real. They love using their beauty and seduce others to tend to their needs. It’s just in their nature.

It had been too long since she’d been around someone closely resembling her own kind. She’d seen a mermaid or two over the years as she traveled, but she couldn’t say she’d ever met a merman before. Well, she could have, but it would’ve been on land and if neither of them were willing to admit what they were then it didn’t really count. It made her think back all those centuries to her time with her sisters and how things had been between meals when they had been playing. Ida didn’t really know how either species had evolved since she was born. When she was young, she’d always been told that mermaids were prettier underwater than they were, but also generally nicer. “Things may have changed over the years, but back when I was still just a youngling, we used our song to cause shipwrecks. Any surviving men would be used for mating and then food. Male children were left on shores for people to find as they were mostly human. Some may have had some sort of gift, but none were capable of living in the ocean. So, unless more interbreeding has occurred with mermen, then no, there are no male sirens.” She imagined there must be sirens elsewhere that had lived differently from how they had, but in her family there had been no male sirens. Oh? He’d only eaten fowls? That was interesting, and very different from her experiences with food. “Can’t speak for other creatures aside from fish, but if I eat any kind of meat it’s either fish or human. Both are tasty in their own way, but I’m reliant upon human meat to be able to use my song on them. If I go too long, it loses all effect altogether.” Ida somewhat missed the days she could put anyone in a trance, but in a way it was also nice to know that she wasn’t accidentally using her powers to get people to like her. Watching him play made her giddy. It had been too long since she’d been around someone else who maneuvered in water the way she did. She was about to answer his first two questions when he burst out with a third. “She can both control water and make plants grow. She’s actually the groundskeeper here. Yes, we are close, but not that close,” she said, chuckling slightly. “She’s more like a sister and a close friend than anything else.” Ida didn’t take offense at the assumption. If she hadn’t liked Kaia so much as a person, she likely would’ve tried to make the woman do stuff for her just to serve herself. As it was, she just wanted to be a good friend in return. “Do you have a magic charm?” she asked. “You know, so you can safely go in the ocean here and look like you’re just out diving to humans?” It seemed like a good thing to ask and to make sure he got sorted if he was able to go to the ocean at times. It was safer than going as themselves at least.

IT TOOK US TO WHERE THE WATER WAS
THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME.
Listening to Ida talk about what being a siren is interesting. He learns that she is centuries old like some of the merfolk in his pod and the people he has met on his travels. It is so weird for him to be basically an infant creature being born in the 90s. Devon is basically a newborn to them all. Although he expects Ida’s answer to be that, that there are no male sirens, it kind of disappoints him a little. Just a little. He wonders how it feels to be part of a species that is just one gender. He can’t judge because he doesn’t know. It looks like it does wonders because Ida still looks like in perfect condition. What he got from Ida’s is that sirens are probably older creatures than the mermaids and mermen. Maybe he and his species are part of the evolution that happened to sirens or whichever one is the root species. This is all interesting for Devon as he is a very curious creature. It might not be learning about the human world but he thinks he has had enough of the human culture. Most things are great about humans. There is still some good out there but right now, everything is turning into shit. This past few years has not been good for the human population. Maybe he should start killing humans too and eating them… There’s a thought. “Oh we don’t eat fish,” he says. “My pod taught me that fishes are like us too so I never tried eating one before. Nor other sea creatures, to be honest.” Devon has met some water nymphs in his travels. They are nice but somehow a bit territorial which is understandable. As he has said before, most water creatures are. It is nice to see Ida chuckling to his question. It is a sibling type of relationship then. He has not had a proper relationship in a long time with anyone except for his grandmother. He thinks it is because people back in Hawaii are jealous of his other worldly beauty. Yes, that’s probably it. They just like to look at the shiny object which is Devon but hates the object because it shines the brightest. “Do you have a magic charm?” Devon is about to say no when she continues to explain what charm she is talking about. It was a charm that can allow Devon to swim in the ocean without turning into a merman. His eyes widened at this discovery. Kailani, his late grandmother, was a witch but she did not do charms or runes. She possessed the sight and that was it. She could do healing herbs every now and then but yeah. “I know there could be such a thing but what do you know of it?” Devon asks. “Is it purchasable here in Manson?” The idea of him swimming in the ocean with other people working his merman magic without his legs turning into his tail is like bliss for him. He loves his tail, mind you, but humans will probably freak out about it. All of a sudden, his thoughts randomly go to the platypus Ida mentioned a while ago. He looks around subtly and tries to spot it if it is anywhere nearby.

Ida had never really thought about what it meant being an all-female species. It was just what she was used to. She’d never known anything else. Ida imagined that if she were to have a child or two now that she was no longer living out on the rocks, she might keep them regardless of gender, namely because she spent more time on land these days than in the water. Compared to back then anyway. So giving up a male child wouldn’t really serve the same purpose anymore. “It’s amazing how we can be so similar in many ways yet have completely different cultures,” she said, finding it fascinating that his pod didn’t even eat fish. “Aside from humans, my family never ate any land-creatures. We lived mostly off what the sea has to offer. Shellfish, fish, even the occasional shark if we got desperate. Mind you, seaweed was a part of our diet too, but I can’t remember ever liking it much.” Ida always seemed to have a preference for shellfish if she was gathering food for herself. There was something about the way Devon had seemed hesitant about jumping into the lake and almost worried he’d be tossed out by Kaia that was endearing to her. She knew she was only ‘renting’ the space in the lake in a manner of speaking, but it was nice to meet someone who understood what it was like to have a territory in water. “We’ve made a nice little home here, but I’m sure Kaia would agree that as long as you don’t go there without permission, you don’t have to worry about swimming in the lake. It’s impossible to miss really.” The lake was on the grounds, it wasn’t like she could stop anyone from swimming in it, and finally meeting a merman was exciting to her so she felt like a proper invitation to at least use the lake whenever was only right and fair. Ida frowned slightly at his question. “Wait here,” she told him before she dove under and used her underwater speed to make it to her stash, pick up her bracelet and bring it back to the surface in a matter of seconds. Holding the thin golden bracelet out to Devon, she smiled slightly. “It doesn’t stop transformations, but it makes humans perceive me as just another human. Albeit with flippers and a swimsuit,” she explained. She had been thrilled when she’d realized the witch was able to make something like that and was willing to do it for a fair trade. “It took a while to find the right kind of metal-working that felt comfortable on my scales, but if you get permission to go to the beach, there’s a witch that can make one for you for a fair price.” While Devon would probably need his own made with a few tweaks, she figured she could show him how simple it could be.

When Ida says that it is an amazing thing that they can be both so similar yet completely different, he agrees heartily. Devon nods his head in agreement with that statement. “That’s why I wanted to explore and travel before I came up here. I used to refer to this as the above. For obvious reasons, of course,” he says. “Diversity peaked my interests and of course the chance of finding out what’s out there, here.” Devon listens to Ida as she talks about what she and her family eats. Maybe he should be more adventurous with his choice of food. Since he’s been acting like a human, he eats meat from cows, pigs, and the likes. They do taste good and he prefers it medium rare. Rare is okay but a little bit of heat makes his taste buds tingly. Of course his favourites are the fowls and chicken especially makes him eat twice as more than he usually does. Thank goodness he hasn’t lost his form. It would be suicide if he becomes a big ass mermaid. Like literal suicide. Devon will literally slit his own throat if he loses his wonderful physique. He has never met an ugly merfolk and that is like a cardinal sin. It never happens because being underwater makes you fit as you move around almost every second. But being on land is different. Lounging and lazing around are temptations that Devon tries to avoid a lot. Hence, his explorations and travels. As Ida tells Devon that it is okay to be in the water, reassuring him or the second time, his shoulders sagged a bit from the tiny worry in his subconscious. As long as he doesn’t go in the homes of the nymph he’ll be okay. Devon will try to avoid it as much as he can whenever he comes back to the lake just to avoid the wrath of a nymph. It’s not that he’s scared but he just thinks he’s above everything to do something about it. Unless the nymph talks about his looks, tht will not be acceptable to him. Devon nods his head to show Ida that he understands and will follow the simple rule of the lake. Ida tells him to wait as she dives under, probably to go to the home she talks about, and leaves Devon by himself up there. While waiting, he decides to play around and manipulate the water around him to make a wave and directs it to a farther side of the lake where his clothes wouldn’t get wet. It’s nice to be able to be free and not worry about people seeing him. He didn’t expect Ida to be back in a matter of seconds so he decides not to do another set of waves just in case. Ida shows him her charm and explains how the charm works and basically she still transforms into her tail but the humans around her will see her with legs. That sounds amazing to be honest! Devon might take the offer of going into town and meeting this witch Ida is talking about. Oh wait, he still does not have the money to buy such things. He’ll probably just wait a little bit more so he can afford it. “I’ll get one as soon as I can afford it!” he exclaims. “I’ve never swam on the beach before with other people because of my tail. I can’t wait to use something like that charm soon!” Devon’s mind starts to wander so he asks Ida, “So, is there anything fun yet a little bit evil you do around here?” His smirk was playful but he thinks he is up to do a little bit of havoc. Just a little. Old habits die hard as they say.

Part of the reason why Ida was so fascinated with this encounter was the way they'd been raised so differently. "I imagine you can travel a lot more on land than me then?" she asked, not because she was spiteful but because she was curious. "I have to find water every other day to avoid drying out, which is why I was so pleased this place has a lake. It makes traveling a lot more difficult." She had traveled a lot in her youth, but she had only traveled along the coast for ages until she found suitable lakes. Maybe if she partnered up with a water elemental, she would be able to travel further at a time... hmm... that certainly would be worth looking into. "My family lived on rocks in the sea, so we spent a fair amount of time above water too. I just wanted to see what the humans were all about as a society." It had been an eyeopener, even if she'd had to make herself look more like a man to fit in when she wanted to go on ships. Ida might not be scientific by nature, but she was absolutely fascinated by the differences between their two species while they were still so similar in appearance. Listening to him talk about how he'd get one as soon as he could afford it made her realize that maybe he didn't have a treasure trove the same way she did. Honestly, she had been able to just trade in some jewelry she'd hoarded that the witch could use for other things later on. "Are you crafty?" she asked, having an idea of her own. "I'm sure if you are, I've got something that could work and you could trade a crafted item for the magic itself," she suggested. "I find all sorts of trinkets when I'm out swimming, and the witch is a new mom, so if you can make something for a baby, I'm sure that would be appreciated." And if he couldn't, well, there was always just finding a way to make a little money. Ida was trying her best to be on her best behavior so she could actually get to work some day. So his question made her chuckle slightly. "Screech at annoying shifters?" she replied. "Honestly, I like going into town and enchanting humans. Never hurts to be admired for a while, even if it's not voluntary." That was about as evil as she got these days, making people admire her when she was feeling down.

“Yep,” he answers Ida about the question with him being able to stay longer in land than she can. “As long as I don’t get a splash of salt water, I can keep my legs on.” Hearing her say that she dries out after a day or two sounds really tiring for Devon. Thank goodness for evolution, right? “Have you tried idk, like spraying yourself with water like from this lake while traveling long distances?” he asks. “This lake seems to have magical properties. I am not sure but I am assuming.” When Ida asks him if he’s crafty, he shakes his head. “I usually let other people do it ever since I learned how to walk with my legs. I mean I don’t have to ask. It’s so easy for me, us, to make humans do what we want. We allure them naturally,” he explains. “And back when I was in my pod, I was the leader’s son so I was kind of spoiled.” That was something he doesn’t want to reminisce. Thinking about the responsibilities that he has left behind makes his head hurt. It’s been years. Although sometimes he wonders what has happened to the pod and who will be the successor of his father’s leadership. When Ida replies jokingly that screeching at annoying shifters is one of the naughty things she does, it doesn’t sound like a bad thing to do to be honest. “I mean I would be up for that,” he replies with a chuckle. And then when she says that she likes enchanting humans for fun made Devon grin widely. “Being admired is one of my favourite hobbies!” he exclaims. “We should totally do it sometime today!” The lake is amazing but Devon likes the idea of going around town with a new and true friend, for a change, and causing small mischiefs her and there with a fellow water creature . Oh, he forgets to be thankful for Ida being kind. “Sorry, I really do not have any manners,” he starts, “thank you for being kind today!” He swims around Ida playfully.
OOC: I’ve been sick with a bad cold and a migraine. Sorry for the late and short reply! IDA EVALINA RADCLIFFE

While she wasn’t one to get jealous that others could manipulate water and she couldn’t, she couldn’t help but feel a little tinge of jealousy when she learned that he could stay indefinitely it seemed. “Nah, the lake isn’t magic,” she said, chuckling slightly. “That’s just Kaia. I don’t dry out or change in rainy weather, but it only buys so much time. I have wondered if I should try to stretch the limit on how long feels comfortable, see if it’ll give me more time, but it’s not something I want to do alone, you know?” Ida knew she could count on Kaia, but if she was going to stay on land until she actually started to dry a little, she would need someone who’d be able to help her get back to the lake before she got seriously hurt. Ida couldn’t really claim to be crafty herself, she just liked collecting things. “Allure them and make them do things is easy,” she agreed, chuckling slightly. “Nothing wrong with being spoiled,” she added. She hadn’t been spoiled growing up, but she had been spoiled ever since she started going on land. People had just given her things in the beginning and once she’d learned to really use her powers she’d gotten pretty much whatever it was she wanted when she wanted it. To be fair, Ida had really only screeched at one shifter so far, but he’d been the only one that had actually hurt her friend that she knew of. “If you can get a pass to leave the grounds, we can go as soon as I’ve put on some proper clothes,” she said, chuckling slightly. She didn’t mind the idea of going into town, but she wasn’t going to be breaking anyone out to get there. “I’m usually nice,” she said, chuckling slightly, before she moved towards the shore. She wanted to get a little sun on her skin without having to float. She was merely resting her head on her hands once she reached land, leaving her tail in the water. “I’m just excited to meet someone else from the deep sea.”

TIME
IT TOOK US TO WHERE THE WATER WAS
THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME.
Ida says she wants to try and see her limit in staying on land. Devon thought that was clever but also a tiny bit dangerous since it might make her weak and not reach a body of water soon enough to recover from dehydration. He felt happy that his biology was not made that way. It will suck badly for him because he likes exploring the lands a lot and sometimes there are no bodies of water anywhere nearby. Ida mentions she doesn’t want to do something like that alone which was smart. “If you want company when you do try it, I can be of assistance. Since I am a water creature like you I know what to look out for in case you get in trouble from the trials,” he offers with a smile. When Ida says that Devon should allure the humans to make the craft with craftiness, Devon let his fangs grow out again and replies with a devilish look, “Oh honey, you just read my mind. Are you sure you’re not a mind reader?” He then proceeds to cackle from his own joke. Oh, he’s the best, he thinks. And Ida’s right, there’s nothing wrong with being spoiled. Devon does not ask for it, he is born into it. That’s just how the world works. He guesses he has the right to be spoiled because he is born into it and he deserves it. He nods as a reply to Ida’s statement. When Ida tells him that Devon needs to ask permission to leave the academy grounds, his face looks at her like she’s a maths lesson. “Oh shit yeah,” he realizes, “I have like a level 3 of riskiness. I did not really listen what I can or cannot do with that level. Hmm, maybe I should ask later on today then.” That is so weird. He doesn’t know why he has a level 3 restriction. He thinks he is not dangerous to be honest. Yes, he can probably kill someone but he has not! Cross his heart. Devon might have bruised or scared the shit out of some people but never killed. He thinks he is an angel as long as he doesn’t cross that boundary. He’s too pretty to be in supernatural jail. If there even is such a thing. He thinks there is in this place with all these restrictions and bullshit. Ida says she’s usually nice. That means that there will be times when she’s ferocious. Oh, Devon knows. He’s like that too. Typical water creatures. They are nice but when we are not in the mood, do not fuck with them. People do not want to see the results if they do. “Me too!” he replies happily to Ida. “I’m usually a bit of a jerk and snobby but I have a special place in my heart for water creatures,” he explains. “I mean a therapist told me I have NPD. Narcissistic Personality Disorder,” he shrugs like it is no big deal. It probably is not. Devon thinks the therapist is just assuming things because he doesn’t know he is a merman. His grandmother though, on the other hand, thinks it’s not just because of that. Well, if he does have it, it doesn’t seem to affect his life that much. Right? “How many other species are there in this school?” he asks. “And are any of them interesting enough to bother?”

Testing her limits and pushing them seemed like something she should’ve done a long long time ago. But even if she had managed to stretch her time on land before her long nap, she probably wouldn’t have retained that after so many years asleep in a lake so now was probably a good time to start. Especially since she was staying in a place full of supernaturals. “Well, if you’re willing to stick with me for 48-hours and calm me down when I’m freaking out about sleeping on land, I won’t say no to the help,” she said, smiling at him. He really was nice, and kind for offering to help her try something that might not even work. Ida couldn’t help but chuckle when he asked if she was a mind reader. “Being good at figuring out what people desire is merely a species perk,” she said, grinning at him. “In this case, it was merely a coincidence, but a logical leap.” Ida knew she could’ve lived the life of a queen if she’d wanted to. Had people feeding her whenever she was hungry, doting on her all day and just treating her like royalty. The thing was though, being admired like that got old after a while. At least by the same people and them not having much of a choice in the matter. Being admired on her own merits on the other hand, well, that was an entirely different matter. Listening to him talk about his level and not knowing the restrictions, she smiled slightly. “I think, for the most part, they like to make sure nobody leaves and don’t come back. So checking out when you go and back in when you come back might just be a formality. But if there’s an issue, can always just ask someone on staff to come along?” she suggested. “Shouldn’t be deemed too dangerous to leave with a guard or something, and some of the guards are actually nice enough to just let you have a little fun as long as nobody gets hurt or risk humans catching onto what you’re up to.” Ida wasn’t entirely sure on the restrictions on his level, but she figured if he wasn’t really dangerous, leaving with a guard should be possible. Being nice all the time was overrated. If someone was being an absolute pain in the ass, they deserved being put in their place. It really was that simple. Some people deserved fangs, claws, you name it. “Hey, as long as being narcissistic isn’t causing other people needless harm, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that,” she said. She liked to admire herself after all. She could still care about what other people enjoyed and wanted to do though. Other species? Hmm… “There’s your typical shifters and were creatures. Bears, leopards, lions, wolves… Some are interesting, others not so much. There’s a psychic vampire on the grounds… Man’s got moves,” she said, grinning slightly at Devon and hoping he got what she was trying to imply. “Don’t bother the naga, he doesn’t like anybody. Well, if you do want to bother him, don’t take it personally if he’s cross with you, it’s just who he is. There’s a beautiful and unpredictable water creature stuck in the basement levels. She literally turns to water, so she doesn’t need a water source to live… Those are just the first that come to mind. I’d just try talking to people if I were you, there are some interesting personalities here.”

IT TOOK US TO WHERE THE WATER WAS
THAT'S WHAT THE WATER GAVE ME.
When Ida tells him that if he’s willing to stick around for 48 hours for her experiment Devon just nods at her because honestly it’s something he’s willing to see the end result. “I’m down for that to be honest,” he says. “I mean there’s really nothing interesting and exciting to do in this school anyway.” And yes, he knows he’s only been here for a day or two but he can judge. This is basically prison for them troubled folks only having the school as a façade. Well, they do teach things here honestly but it’s not like he’s a student. Devon is just a resident in here so he’s basically free to do what he wants with his own time. That makes him think that maybe he should start something about making yourself pretty. Not along the lines of putting on makeup or anything like that but more like boosting confidence. That can make him actually be nice to people. Well, at least try to be. He has learned about karma and all that crap and honestly, he thinks he believes in it. There are literally supernaturals and mythical creatures, like him, in this world. So why is the power of karma not believable to most people? He chuckles to himself and thinks, oh yeah, they aren’t known to be real. But yeah, that is an idea Devon is going to shelf for now and think about later. Devon listens to Ida again and he laughs out loud when she says that it is a logical leap in response to his previous question. He likes Ida. She can stay on his level of bantering which is a good thing. As Ida explains some things about his level of restriction, he listens attentively and tries to take it all in. He will at least know things about what he can and cannot do. “They honestly think I’m one of the crazies,” he scoffs as he says this. “Just because I have NPD doesn’t mean I’m crazy.” People will say that he’s in denial but he knows best about himself. And that’s that on that. He also agrees completely when Ida says that there’s nothing wrong with being narcissistic. “I mean it’s not our fault if we look good and know that we look good,” Devon says. He knows he sounds like a spoiled brat- well, that’s because he is one. No one can blame him for that. When Ida stars listing the creatures in this school, she mentions something about a vampire and his moves. Devon gives her a devilish smirk. “You naughty, naughty minx!” he exclaims. “I’m liking side of you, babe. Tell. Me. More. Spill!” And then she says to not bother the Naga. All he gathers from how little she says about him is that he’s a dick. “Well, as you might know, I like a challenge,” he says with bravado. “Maybe I will drop by this Naga one time.” Devon has heard of Nagas in his travel around South East Asia. He doesn’t know from which country this Naga is from but he doesn’t care. He thinks he’s up for annoying that creature. They are also water creatures but they seem prickly if he does say so himself. Pricklier than usual because water creatures are already prickly. She also mentions about a beautiful creature stuck under the basement and that this creature turns into water. “Like does she become a puddle of water on the ground when she transforms or her figure stays?” Devon has seen that film Sky High and there’s one person there with superpowers of turning into a puddle of goo or something. It’s a sensible question for him.
