Julius had long since forgotten what a 'normal' family was.. He had vague memories of his own childhood and it hadn't been an easy time but at the same time he'd enjoyed his life. The boys weren't molly coddled, he was very much expected to learn to hunt and care for himself from a young age. These days though the world is an entirely different place. They have food that's readily available in shops, places that will help you if you're struggling and there are so many mental health articles that he's read. Some of which he's taken with a pinch of salt, mainly because according to psychology he should have a lot more issues than he does considering his upbringing and his life. Perhaps it's because of his species an the dragon within that he doesn't... He isn't going to look too much into it.
He hadn't expected her to ask that last question and really what could he say? If he admitted that yes, they were, then wasn't that the first step into basically adopting the child into his own life? Taking responsibility. He already was to a certain extent but he really was not the type of person who could comfort a kid when they're upset, or help with any real problems when most of his answers to problems is to burn it. His initial thoughts to problems anyway, he does have a mind capable of reason, his dragon just has a short, fiery temper. "I suppose we are," he answered though, he couldn't say 'no', Dutch probably wouldn't appreciate a blunt answer like that from him. And it was technically true.. As long as he wanted Orella then he'd have to accept the little Fury too, "I'd go to your aunt with most problems though. Unless that problem is a persistant bully," he smirked a little smile then, "I could definitely help there." His reputation as a grouchy bastard is known in Manson, most people won't mess with him.
"She's special to me," he admitted in a moment of rare, complete honesty, "so rest assured she will never be hurt by me. At least, not intentionally.." He's aware he can be gruff, a little stubbornly set in his ways and perhaps a little too chivalrous that could seem like he thinks she can't do things at times. It's more that he'd rather do the unladylike things for her. He'd rather protect her than have her ever protect him. He rest his hand on the top of her head when she hugged him again and gave her a pat that was a little awkward but felt natural enough on his part, he hasn't spent much time around children, "if you have troubles with your fire, let the guards know. I'd rather you be able to heal yourself with flames rather than have to come here and risk the questioning of your aunt, so, I'll help."
He stepped away from her to open the door, her guard leant against the wall on the other side of the corridor but stood back up when he'd opened the door, "she's fine. Take her back to class," he glanced back at her and moved aside to let her pass, "see you soon, little Fury. Under better circumstances."
