Cora had listened to Oz's advice and had found someone to help her make her wings stronger by using the pool like he'd suggested. They weren't strong enough to fly just yet, at least not take off from the ground, but they seemed to handle gliding. In the sense that they at the very least helped her be able to jump down from branches by gliding down and a few feet away. Well, most of the time anyway. Today, apparently, she'd overdone it.
While outside playing and practicing, Cora had fallen a few feet and as a result had torn open her calf. She'd landed on a sharp rock, but the fact that she'd been able to walk herself back to the academy made a break unlikely. She just had a nasty cut that needed looking at. It throbbed and hurt, but she kept telling herself that she was too old to cry just because she got hurt and so she kept a brave face all the way to the medical wing, insisting on walking herself, despite probably needing a few sutures. She had, of course, been bandaged up crudely by the guard that was taking her to the medical centre to avoid leaving a trail of blood inside.
Right now, she was waiting to be seen by medical staff. Looking up at the guard that had brought her there, she frowned slightly. "Please don't tell my aunt?" she asked quietly. "I don't want her to worry about rocks too." It seemed like a perfectly fair request to her.

Julius kind of felt like giving himself a shot to knock him the fuck out. The dragon had just finished informing a resident of their test result. The immortal yet obviously still quite human male had contracted a sexually transmitted disease and Julius had wanted to beat the idiot around the head with the folder his result had come in. This. This was what his job had boiled down too, he could reaarange somebody's innards perfectly, suture wounds to barely leave a scar, he'd given up learning to be a neurosurgeon to come to this place. And for what? To tell some immortal idiot that he was in danger of his dick falling off. Fantastic. He'd prescibed him some pills to clear up whatever he had and got a nurse to give him the safe sex talk. Julius wasn't going to subject himself to that.
The dragon was making his way back to his office when he caught the smell of blood, at first his mind thought of Dutch, there was something similar to the scent but his dragon wasn't alarmed enough in response to the scent that he was certain it wasn't her. If the fire breather's mate was injured it would have kicked up an instance defensive fuss yet it just breathed out a breath of mild concern but it was enough for him to ignore the door to his office to carry on into the waiting room where the familiar sight of the smaller fury met him.
"Cora.." There was a mild reprimanding tone to his voice when he realised that it was her that was bleeding, no wonder he'd recognised the scent, the onyl difference was her mixed blood, "what did you do?" There must have been something. Orella would appreciate it more if he were the one to handle her medical care rather than having him hand her over to a nurse.. Plus the bandaging first aid that the guard had done irritated him, it was haphazardly done and it was sloppy. So he sighed and stepped over to her, ignoring the guard completely as he gently picked her up in his arms and walked into the nearest empty treatment room, only to shut the door in the guards face before he placed her down on the bed.
"Show me."

Cora looked up at the dragon when he said her name. She couldn’t help but smile at him, happy to see him. Dutch always seemed so happy when the dragon came up in conversation, even if all Cora had been asking her was about his ability to make fire. And if she could ask him to show her a trick or two. “Jules,” she replied, still smiling at him. She had wanted to call him ‘uncle’ but she held back because the guard was there.
“I was trying to fly,” she said simply. It was the truth. She didn’t see a reason to lie to the dragon, especially not when he was giving her the time of day. “Fell on a rock. It wasn’t a big fall, but seems like it was big enough.” While it hurt, she knew it wasn’t a big fall. She wasn’t scared of trying at least, that had to count for something, right? She would have to make sure Julius knew that she wasn’t scared of trying, even if it wasn’t a huge fall.
Cora grinned when he picked her up like that, he smelled nice. All fiery and smokey. When he sat her down and asked her to show him, she gently peeled off the bandage the guard had put on earlier. “Is it bad?” she asked. She hadn’t exactly had a chance to look at it herself properly. She’d just seen the blood earlier and known she had to find staff.

He heard the slump of the guard just sitting himself in the chair outside the door and was satisfied that he wouldn't have to deal with some idiot barging into the room and insisting on keeping watch. He sighed quietly when she explained what she'd been trying to do but attempted a weak smile regardless, "didn't your aunt tell you not to attempt flying until your wings had strengthened a little more?" She was still so young. Dragons at her age were flying but they also had the actual physiology for doing so in their animal form. Cora needed to build up muscular strength. Something he knew she'd been trying to do with the help of the pool. Whoever had given her that advice had known what they were talking about.
"There's no rush in growing up," he added as he pulled on a pair of latex gloves, his gaze on her leg as she gently pulled the bandage down. It didn't seem like anything too bad really. Blood tends to make small injuries seem so much worse and this wasn't any different. She may need a couple of butterfly stitches and a clean which would sting somewhat but he was quite sure she could handle it. She wasn't exactly as weak as he percieved many kids to be.
"You'll keep your leg," he joked quietly as he cut away that dodgy bandage and tossed it into the bin, "but this may sting a little.. Although.." He paused for a moment after glancing over to the antibiotic wash he would usually reach for in these circumstance. He didn't think she' get an infection, especially with her mixed blood. She may even be able to heal over wounds with her own fire, he does so if anything has ever managed to draw blood from him in the past. Fire purifies, for himself it also leaves little to no scarring.. Cora was part hellhound, surely she couldn't scar or be hurt for too long either?
"Try igniting your leg.. I'll keep the fire from spreading." There was nothing wrong with a little harmless experimentation.

Cora nodded somberly at the question. After she had realized just how underdeveloped her wings were, Dutch had insisted on building strength before they did anymore actual flying. Oz’s advice and help with the pool was helping with that though. “They’re good for gliding now though,” she pointed out. “Must’ve just overdone it.” She liked gliding, it was close to the ground and didn’t involve heights at all. Well, not heights higher than she could climb anyway. She was just surprised it was taking so long, because apparently she should’ve been able to fly by now. Then again, she hadn’t known about her wings for more than a year, so maybe that was why.
“I just don’t want to disappoint Dutch,” she admitted when he told her there was no rush in growing up. She didn’t want to be a burden. She didn’t think the woman disliked her, but she didn’t want her aunt to have a reason to dislike her either. She tried to keep her head down, not be a bother and not ask too many questions. There were so many classes to focus on and stay busy with and things she could safely learn without her aunt’s help. Just because she didn’t want to learn how to fight just yet, didn’t mean she didn’t want to know how to stay safe. Learning to fly sooner rather than later seemed to be a smart move, meant she could just fly away from danger.
Cora grinned at his joke when he said she’d keep her leg. While she might not know the dragon as well as her aunt did, she could see why she liked him so much. He was a nice man. Friendly, helpful, and didn’t treat her like she was a clueless kid. Despite basically being clueless about what she was still. His next suggestion made her stare at him for a moment though. “I’ve only accidentally started a fire,” she admitted. Well, she had made embers… Maybe she could try that?
Her whole face scrunched up as she focused and really tried to make fire like he’d suggested. She couldn’t help but squeal in excitement when she managed to smoke at least, a tiny flicker of a flame underneath it all, though she was quick to cover her mouth to quiet herself. “Sorry,” she mumbled. She didn’t want to be a nuisance, but she got excited whenever she managed to purposefully do something remotely fire-related.

Gliding was not flying but it still took a certain level of skill, especially if she hit a sudden headwind or updraft, she could end up spiralling into something a little more solid than the floor. He wasn't going to lecture her though, anybody else he may well have done but she was young and he had no intention on seeing her cry. He definitely didn't want to make her cry himself. He's not used to modern relationships but Dutch cared about the young girl, upsetting her might just get him sent to the dog house and he much prefers to be in her good books, "it's best to know your limits before you push yourself too far." And obviously she wasn't very good at landing, "try equipping some safety gear next time. Knee and elbow pads. And a helmet, definitely a helmet. I don't want to see you here often." Knocking herself out would not be good, even supernatural's can get brain damage.
"And you think Dutch won't be upset at thinking you've hurt yourself trying to prove you're not a 'disappointment'?" He isn't a counsellor and he has no idea how children think, but he's quite sure that the Fury would be more upset at Cora getting hurt than not being able to fly for a few years, "if there's one thing time will tell you, Cora, it's that you never have to prove yourself to anybody who is actually worthy of your time." He most certainly doesn't.
He grabbed some cotton wool from the side to stem the flow of blood down her leg, just gently dabbing at her skin rather than rubbing at it, "you won't burn anything down in here, no matter how had you try." Of course he doesn't know that for sure, having never met a hellhound before he's not quite sure the power behind their fire. But he's a creature closely related to the element and so he's a little arrogant when it comes to control of the stuff. He was pretty certain no matter what she conjured up it wouldn't be him that burnt anyway and wasn't that really what was important at the end of the day?
The squeal admittedly made him wince, but only because of his heightened hearing. He was somewhat less than impressed by the tiny little spark she made, but he said nothing about it, instead just removed the cotton wool from her leg and blew a short firey breath onto her skin. It didn't take much to ignite the smoke that she'd managed to create, and he smiled in satisfaction when it bloomed up over her wound, pretty much sealing it over almost instantly. He couldn't see it hurting her too much beyond a little itchy perhaps. But who knows?

So far, gliding was really only from a branch to the ground. Anything higher than that scared her. But she knew she would have to work on that at some point if she was going to be able to fully decide what she wanted to be when she grew up. She nodded at his advice. This place was full of people who had great ideas! First Oz with the pool, then that David guy and using sessions with him to practice her powers in a safe environment and now Julius with safety gear. “How do I get some of that?” she asked, wondering if she had to ask Dutch to buy her some or if they had anything on the grounds that worked for her needs. “Maybe I should stick with trying in the gym too. Land on a something a little softer than the forest floor if I misjudge something.” She was eager to learn though. And if having protective gear and soft places to land was good for that, she didn’t care if people thought she looked ridiculous.
Cora had initially just liked Julius because he was obviously important to her aunt and made her happy, but now she had another reason to like him too. He was kind and gentle and patient. And a treasure trove of wisdom. “So she won’t think I’m just wasting her time?” she asked quietly, because she really did want to learn. She just had to take her time to do it. It was a lot to take in that she’d never been human after all. “I mean, she grew up always knowing what she is, I was just human-Cora until a year or so ago. It’s a lot still.” She’d had no inkling she was different either, aside from an apparent immunity to fire. She did feel bad about her excitement, not because it wasn’t progress, but because she’d remembered Julius too had better hearing than most after she’d squealed. A giggle escaped her when he blew fire at her leg like that and her leg closed itself up because of it. It tickled. “I didn’t know I could use fire like that,” she said, leaning forward to get a better look at her leg. “That is awesome!” Not that she was planning on getting hurt more often just because she could apparently use fire like that, but it was another reason for learning faster just so she’d have the option.
“Any advice on how to get a better handle on making fire?” she asked. Just because she was working with David to try to learn control, didn’t mean that she managed to actually make any on purpose half the time.

Safety equipment must be someplace in the gym storage area, he would assume so anyway, there were less than robust people around Manson that probably needed it for certain activities. Like sparring for example, Jules is well aware (thanks to Dutch) that there are people who practice that in the gymnasium on a nearly daily basis, there would be something there to add a little protection for her. He'd go out of his way to ask Zevren, possibly to get something sorted for her to wear if she was really serious about learning to fly so soon. "I think it'd be for the best if you stick with crash mats inside for now, I won't have to see you again in here to patch you up in that case." Unless she hits the gym ceiling and falls to the hard floor, missing the crash mat. Then she may have broken bones. Which was worse in a way, but no blood would spill, making her safer in a way too.
There was no way to completely eliminate all risks without making her just stay on the floor until she was fully grown and Julius is a firm believer that failing teaches somebody strength of a different kind. Somebody his age has to have that kind of outlook on the world otherwise there wasn't any way that he could believe in himself. Everybody, even him, makes mistakes.
"Wasting her time? What do you think she wants you to do for her?" He pulled over a stool that was slightly lower than where she was sat and took a seat. He very almost ran a hand through his hair but the uncomfortable covering of the gloves reminded him he couldn't really do that. But then, now that he had a plan of action ahead of him, aka using fire, then he didn't really need the gloves, so he pulled them off and discarded them off to the side, "she'd be happiest with you happy, Cora. So concentrate on being a kid and enjoying life. Anything more than that is unnecessary for now." He wasn't being soft on purpose, he still sounded slightly gruff but then that was simply him all over, there was no negativity to his tone.
She hadn't been really a part of their world for long, she was still adjusting.. There was no point in her ruining the only childhood she'll ever have simply because she thought people expected more from her than they actually did.
Her wound closed over and he smiled in satisfaction, it had worked better than he'd thought it would do. It was a good reason for her to learn how to control the fire sooner rather than later. Possibly more reason for her to concentrate on that rather than flying actually, "practice," he answered her, "I'm not what you are, fire isn't a part of you. It is me." He literally has a chamber within him that homes the flame that pretty much keeps him alive. He's not entirely certain how, there's only so much research you can do on yourself, "But again, be patient with yourself, when it comes to fire frustration isn't helpful."

This place was full of people who had exceptional advice for her. Safety equipment would probably be a good thing when it came to learning to fly so she'd avoid more injuries. "I don't want to end up here either," she said, chewing slightly on her lip. "She worries enough, don't need to add to it by being accident prone." She liked the dragon though, so he definitely wasn't the reason why she didn't want to end up in the medical wing again. No, she just didn't want Dutch to get in trouble for acting out from worry. She knew her aunt was a little tense to begin with. At least lunchtime was nice, so she was glad they got to eat together every day.
"She seems a little worried about me not wanting to fight," she admitted quietly. That was the one thing she figured that maybe Dutch thought she was wasting her time with because she didn't want to be a fighter. She didn't want to be a fighter like her mom and aunt, it seemed to bring nothing bu trouble. She nodded at what he said though, truly believing him when he said she'd be happiest if she was happy. He knew her aunt well, probably better than she did after all. "So, just focus on school and stay out of trouble. I can do that," she said, grinning at him. She could see why her aunt liked him though, he was really awesome. "You're really nice," she commented. She knew people around here didn't think so, but she couldn't help but think so.
Cora couldn't help but be impressed by how painless it was to use fire to heal herself like that. She definitely needed to learn that. "It's the class I pay the most attention to," she said, proud of that fact. "It's harder to do on purpose than when I get really upset about something, but Dutch says that's the fury in me reacting to things and the fire reacting to that. I'd rather learn how to do it on purpose so I'll know how to stop it on my own if I lose control again." Cora had been caught in a bad cycle when she'd lost control that one time. Anger had made the fire flare up, which had scared her, which made her angry that she was scared, and she just couldn't put it out without help.
"Think I can practice with you too? Not all the time, of course, but once in a while?" It was safer to practice around people who could stop things from burning down after all.

Jules would never take it personally that people don't want to return to the medical center. Half the time he doesn't even want to be here but the job gives him a purpose that he would otherwise be lacking out in the world. Considering most would be here because they're inured it makes more than enough sense that they'd want to avoid it, it wasn't purely because of him and his temperament. Thankfully though, because of the way he is it does put off those who'll waste the medical team's time with something like a small abrasion or something ridiculous like a cold. Somebody had come in for a splinter once, whining because it was deep and painful but wouldn't let anybody look at it. It hadn't taken long for him to lose his patience, storm in, forcefully pull the thing out and send him on his way. Ridiculous people.
"I believe she's more worried about you not being able to defend yourself if somebody did try and hurt you," that seemed to be the reoccuring theme when it came to Cora, Dutch just wanted her to be safe. Considering she can't be by the girls side twenty four seven then wanting her to be able to fight made sense. Of course, in the world these days there wasn't nearly as much violence as their used to be. But you can't stop somebody from worrying. The compliment made his lips quirk a little into a faint smile but he didn't say anything to that, instead he just agreed, "be happy. Be safe. That's all she wants." There was plenty of time to learn how to be an adult when she actually is one.
As for fire. It's quite true that Julius usually has limited patience for anybody who cannot control their fire. It's an element that he has the utmost respect for and has never before neglected himself because he knows the absolute carnage that it can cause. It's also why he's the one on call for any fire elemental that loses control of ends up being a little shit, not much, if anything can burn him other than other dragon fire and the last time he checked there were no other dragons in the country, let alone within Manson. However, Cora is a child.. A child who hasn't long had the ability to do what she could do, he can't reasonably be angry with her for something that she has had barely any time to practice.
"Your aunt knows where to find me on my lunch break, if you require someplace safe to practice you can always use my land." Not where he lives, he means the crater. It'd be difficult for her to start a fire that'd spread around there, he's been quite careful when it came to making sure the heat wouldn't cause any forest fires. Whether he'd be there or not would be another question, he doesn't really believe he'd be the best of teachers but he wasn't outwardly saying 'no'.
He passed her a little wet wipe to clear up the remaining blood on her leg, there wasn't much of a mess left behind now that it had been healed over but it never hurt to be clean, "I take it you'd like to keep this little mishap between just me, you and that guard?"

In many ways, Cora couldn’t help but think that maybe Julius had an ungrateful job. Because who would want to spend time in the medical center? It meant you were either injured or sick and neither of those things were any fun. Thankfully, she’d never really been sick, something that was finally making sense to her, but still. Being injured wasn’t fun either. It stung. At least he was good at his job though, because she felt perfectly safe where she was and wouldn’t mind seeing him if she got hurt again. Rather someone she knew her aunt trusted than a stranger. Especially since he was fire too.
It made sense that that’d be what her aunt worried about more. Maybe learning just how to defend herself wouldn’t be so bad. Learn to fight just enough to safely run away and hide behind a grownup. Maybe she’d bring it up with Zev, but for now she just nodded at his words. It made sense. She was nodding again when he said to be happy and safe, she could do that. Classes were her favorite parts of the day after all, she liked being productive and feeling useful and learning made her feel that way.
Thankfully, she had been assigned a counselor that could help her learn how to control fire in a safe environment, so she was learning more places than just class. It was important to her that she learned how to control that sooner rather than later, just so she’d know how to avoid losing control over it. Just because she liked rolling around in campfires didn’t mean everyone else enjoyed it after all.
Cora would have to ask her aunt to bring her to the crater, just so she was sure she didn’t get lost and would know her way there and back again on her own. It seemed best to not go anywhere in the forest on her own the first time around, especially not further in than the outskirts. She wasn’t too good at scents yet and so she didn’t dare venture too far away from the main grounds or she was worried she’d get lost. “Thank you,” she said, grinning slightly at him. “I’ll remember that.” It was nice of him to offer and she felt like she’d be safe there.
She pulled her leg up so she could better see what she was doing when he handed her the wet wipe and happily wiped off the remaining blood, pleased that it had been that simple to heal it over. She’d just known she had to get it patched up because there were vampires around and it hardly seemed fair to bleed all over the place. Even if they wouldn’t be up for hours still. “Yes, please?” she said, chewing her lip slightly. She’d rather not have her aunt find out about this and worry. “I don’t want her thinking I’d be safer with mom. Her friends aren’t nice people and I definitely wouldn’t be safe with her right now.” Cora might not know a whole lot about her mother’s friends, but the woman had told her they were bad people and that she had no choice but to be friends with them. One of them was her master after all.
“Do you know if hellhounds can be bound to dragons? Or anything other than demons? I think I’d rather have to listen to you when I grow up than someone really bad. I know Dutch is looking for answers, but you’re older. Surely you know things she doesn’t?”

He wouldn't mind her in the crater as much as he would an actual shifter, at least she was accustomed to the heat and therefore wouldn't end up succumbing to heat exhaustion like a few others have done who've tried to trespass on his land. No burnt paws either.. Not to mention she smelt like something familiar, fire based mixed with the scent of his mate. She was bearable. The dragon sat up from where he had been slouched a little in his stool and rubbed the side of his jaw, "just don't take any friends." Now or when she inevitably makes some. He doesn't want to have to soothe his own internal beast before he can find any semblance of relaxation. Dutch knows the rules of the area anyway, he'd let her fill Cora in rather than giving her a 'do's and don't list now. Lecturing kids isn't something he has the patience for, regardless of how grown up they seem.
He stared at her unflinchingly for a few long moments before a rare smile crossed his lips and he shook his head slightly in amusement, "if she finds out regardless of my silence, then I can't help you. Other than to insist it was so small of a wound there's barely even a scar." In fact all that was left as a thin pink line on her skin after she wiped away the blood, even that would fade in time to leave nothing. Or so he assumed. If she healed like a shifter, or like her aunt then she'd be absolutely fine, "But one thing you don't have to worry about is ever having to go back there as long as you don't want too." He's pretty sure that's not the law.. But, if Cora herself is saying she won't be safe with her mother because of her friends then that speaks volumes.
Cora would be staying at Manson. He's sure the other high ranking members of staff would agree that it would be the best course of action for her. In other words, even if the mother wants her back. Tough shit.
Jules was silent for a few moments, the smile had slid from his face but he looked more thoughtful than entirely serious, "I've known of two people on this realm who had ever managed to bind hellhound to them. The how isn't important, but," he reached out to offer her a hand off of the edge of the ward bed she was sat on, "but, that's not to be focused on, remember? Enjoy being a child before you lose these years. We don't even know if you could be bound like a hellhound, you certainly have enough of that stubborn Fury blood running through your veins." Yes he was joking. Or at least he sounded like he was. He was actually quite serious.

Being welcomed to the crater made Cora feel all warm and fuzzy. In a strange way it made her feel accepted and at home right where she was. Sure, she figured her aunt had accepted her since she seemed to try to bond rather than just be overprotective, even got hugs from her now, but to be accepted by her aunt’s boyfriend just made her feel like she really was in the right place. That she had a home here as long as she needed it. It was a nice feeling. Sure, she missed her mother from time to time, but she didn’t know the woman all that much better than her aunt because she’d wanted her safe. “Your place, your rules,” she said when he told her not to bring any friends. First of all, that would require making some friends, and secondly she really didn’t want to piss off the dragon when all she wanted was for him to like her.
“Thank you,” she said, practically beaming at him. It meant a lot to her that he was willing to keep quiet about this and not worry her aunt. Because she really shouldn’t have to worry about her getting hurt by trying to exercise her wings. They were getting stronger at least, so maybe this time next year she’d be able to do it properly. “Is it bad I miss my adoptive parents more than mom? I mean, I knew them longer, but mom always brought gifts when she came to visit.” Cora was curious about that, because she kind of felt like she was being a bad daughter for missing someone who wasn’t family more than her mother. Then again, she might see her mom again some day and probably would never see her adoptive parents again.
She was soaking up his words and decided she would just have to take it a day at a time and try not to worry about when she was all grown up. She nodded at his words and accepted the hand getting down from the bed. When he joked like that, she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him. “I like you,” she said, smiling up at him when she let go of him again. “Be good to my aunt,” she warned him. Even if she didn’t know how to retaliate if he wasn’t, it just seemed like the thing to say.

There was a real possibility that as Cora aged and ended up requiring housing outside of Manson (or was allowed at least) and Dutch reached the level where she could be released from being a captive resident then the both of them would mostly likely end up being moved into his house anyway. If that was what Dutch wanted of course, if not then he'd help her find someplace to live close by to where he does. Or build her her own place. Not by hand himself, he's not quite that useful, but there are plenty of contractors out there who would happily take on a project to make her feel safe. Something nice and open for her, he knows how much she loves the sky. So, really, he has to learn to accept Cora as part of his life. Now and in the future. He hadn't foreseen this happening of course and lord knows he doesn't think himself much of a children person, but that's where this path had led him. At least with phrases like 'your place, your rules' he could rest assured he wouldn't be a little terror if she did move in. Plus, most of his stuff is fireproof in some way, at least he has a good extinguishing system in place just in case of accidents.
Hmm. He made a slightly thoughtful sound, he had to tread carefully here reallly. He didn't know her mother, she might well have loved her daughter a lot but simply been unable to look after her properly because her circumstances. But, in his eyes, don't have a child if you aren't prepared to do everything for them yourself. "They were the ones who went to you when you woke in the night, or cared for you when you were ill. They were family as much," if not more in his opinion, "as your mother is. So of course it makes sense that you miss them. They were your constant family," not just somebody who popped in every now and then with presents. Presents are a poor substitute for love and attention really. Really though she was too young to hear his opinions on the matter, he wouldn't make a child cry. Not if he could help it.
He didn't know quite what to do when she hugged him like that, if anything he froze for a moment with his arms just hanging there because what the hell was he supposed to do with them? People as a general rule didn't hug him. In the end though he placed a hand on the back of her head and loosely around her shoulders, looking marginally awkward when she pulled away. That would take some getting used too. Kids like to hug, don't they? He smiled slightly and tried to think of some way of saying 'I like you too' without sounding like a parroting fool. She saved him though with that little threat and he chuckled quietly, "I can honestly say I never wish to be anything but very nice to your aunt, so don't you worry, little Fury."

Growing up, Cora had always had rules she’d had to follow. Tidy up after herself, be home by a certain time, let people know if she was going to be late. So it hadn’t really been that big of an adjustment to get settled into the schedule and day to day like here at Manson. She liked a certain structure in her life and with most of her days being occupied with classes and learning things, it felt almost normal. Well, what had been normal for her until she arrived here anyway. She’d settled into a nice routine and she liked that. Now all she needed to do was make sure that she didn’t mess things up for her aunt and Julius. And that meant listening to his rules too.
Seeing how hard her aunt could be, Cora was kind of grateful she’d gotten to grow up in a normal house. Where hugs were normal and appreciated and she got to play with toys. She liked hugs, she couldn’t imagine growing up without them. At least Dutch seemed to be coming around to them, so that was something. No, she was glad she hadn’t grown up like her aunt and mom. Which was why she was worried about going back there. “Are you and Dutch those people now?” she asked, curious more than anything. She knew her aunt would be there for her if she needed her. And Julius wasn’t a bad person either, she just wanted to know where she fit into everything right now.
It was nice hugging the dragon. He was so warm! “Good, because I like her,” she said, chewing her lip slightly. She didn’t want her aunt to get hurt and warning the dragon not to hurt her seemed like the right thing to do. Now that she knew he wouldn’t be bad to the only family she had here, she hugged him again, briefly this time. “Thanks for your help today. I think I’m gonna be ok to go back to class now.” She was all healed up and ready to go, all thanks to his brilliant idea.
