Nell's favorite place was the garden, the small slice of nature in her self-imposed supermax prison. It was hard to feel trapped so close to the sky. At least when she looked directly up, and ignored the fence that topped the stone walls. She'd lie down and look up at the clouds, imagine how it would feel to not be surrounded by walls. What had it been like when she was young, when she swam in a pool supervised by lifeguards and not security, when she looked out her windows and didn't see bars? She could barely remember.
"You can't throw yourself off here," her guard said when she climbed the steps up to the rooftop. She was far too tired and far too shy to throw them a mean look. Once through the door, she climbed the wall, fingernails chipping as they dug into stone until she reached the fence wire.
With a heave, she pulled herself up and clung to the fence, cool metal biting into her skin. She didn't usually act out like this. The last time she'd done anything bad it was to herself, diving into the pool with a robe full of river stone. A gust of wind swept across the rooftop, tugging at her hair tied in a ribbon, pulling it loose so that it whipped around her head.
"Get down."
She hung from the fence, leaned forward, her sneakers barely touching the wall beneath her. "Why? I'm not breaking the rules."
A part of it was spiteful, and saw this act as a small rebellion borne of boredom, but a bigger part was curious. What more could they do to her here? What would they do? She was here of her own free will, had wanted to be placed at a higher risk level for her and everyone else's safety. Most of her time was spent trying not to inconvenience anyone - what would happen if she did?
"You know you are."
"Is it because I'll fall?" She dangled a foot. "It won't kill me. Probably won't even hurt me too much. It might even unlock my power."
That was why she always came up here, sat among the plants in full bloom now. She wanted to see if she'd feel something, if whatever's inside her would answer the call of nature, if her blood and the flowers would sing to each other. It hadn't happened in eight years; she doubt it would happen today.
Her bravado wavered when a particularly strong gust of wind loosened her hand on the fence, and she slipped...

Being in the secure facility and watched like a hawk, there were not many places for Kieran to go. However, one place where he could go was the rooftop gardens. The Dullahan got a rather amusing surprise as he came up from the secure facility. A girl, accompanied by a guard, was climbing the fence and slipped at the right moment. Kieran couldn't help but let out a chuckle. After all, only an idiot would try to escape with a guard present.

Unlock her power..? Hm. A mop of brown hair peeked over the back of a bench to watch as the girl climbed the fence of the rooftop garden. That wasn't the brightest of ideas but it seemed the guard had already told her so and she didn't care. So was she suicidal? Or semi-indestructible like himself? Either way his curiosity was piqued and so he was drawn from his lazy moping upon the bench and into motion. The psyvamp yawned as he stood to his feet, his arms rising up over his head so he could stretch out his spine. He grunted in satisfaction when his spine popped a couple of times and let out a sigh of a breath before beginning to wander over to where the two were. The guard was irritated. He could feel it like a gentle buzz in the corner of his mind, it was enough to dull out whatever she was feeling.
If she was feeling anything. She certainly wasn't afraid. Vaguely he was aware of Kieran watching from a way away, but the Dullahan hadn't approached, neither did he seem likely too despite the amusement he was feeling. Louis glanced over to him as he walked, frowning gently because he was quite sure that guy wasn't really somebody that anybody should be hanging out with. In fact, where was his guard? Surely he had one nearby.
A sudden flash of surprise had his head snapping back around to Nell and his own heart leapt into his throat when he saw the girl toppling backwards. Louis is a psychic vampire, but that does not mean that he's dead, he was born what he was and as such he's very human in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, that also means he isn't very strong, neither is he exactly the fastest of people. At least he was paying more attention than her guard was though, because he hadn't moved while Louis was sprinting forward.
He knew he wouldn't catch her. The angle was all wrong, he'd end up simply falling on top of her if he tried to catch her in his arms. But he also kind of didn't want to feel the backlash of her pain, and he heals quickly.. So, with barely a moments thought he pretty much just threw himself onto the floor beneath where she was falling, feeling her collide heavily with his back just moments later. Louis's breath left him in a grunt like gasp but moments later he was breathily laughing against the ground, "you're not as light as I thought you'd be... Holy fuck. Oww."

Nell hadn't really paid attention to anyone on her way up, but in her time here she'd learned to stay attentive. To be aware of her surroundings so nothing caught her off-guard. Part of her attention was on the person she could feel watching her, hairs on the back of her neck raising, part of it on her footing.
Until she slipped.
She barely had time to gasp before she was plummeting back into the garden, eyes squeezed tight to brace herself for—
"Wha...?"
Her heart was still racing as she realized she'd crashed onto someone else, butt-first, hands searching for purchase on her person-shaped safety mat. Her tailbone ached, and it took a moment to orient herself. There was no plants to brace her, no tiny flowers springing from her fingers to help her. None of the power that she'd said might spring forth to save her.
Just a stranger who let out a winded grunt.
"You're not as light as I thought you'd be..."
She scurried off of him. Did he...did he really throw himself under her? Why?
"I'm sorry," she squeaked, much more flustered than when she was on top of the world. Her cheeks flushed red. She had half a mind to lecture him; she could have broken his back! She could have intentionally lured him over specifically to land a wrestling move to kill him! She opted for: "Are you alright? Did I hurt you?"
Her guard likely saw this as comeuppance and didn't so much as lend a helping hand. Lesson learned, she imagined him thinking. Nell was thoroughly cowed, though she was more worried about this stranger, inspecting him for any signs of broken bones, hands hovering above him in case he needed help.

Kieran was waiting for the girl to tumble into a flowerbed when she slipped. However, someone else came to her rescue. Somewhat disappointed, the Dullahan headed to a nearby bench to watch the girl go into medical mode. Kieran glanced at the guard, but they didn't do anything. He would have thought that a staff member would make sure the girl's living landing pad was okay.

He could feel her hovering hands above his back, the concern washing off of her made him feel pleasantly warm but he wasn't going to play injured, he was fine. Even if he wasn't then his body would knit itself back together within minutes anyway so he wasn't worried. Louis rolled over onto his back with perhaps a slightly dramatic sound of effort, "relax," he spoke out, sounded obviously amused, "I'm good, I'm good.." He slid an arm over his eyes to shield them from the light and peered up at her.
A slow, easy grin slid over his lips, "feel free to kiss me better if you must though." With the touch of skin he'd be able to siphon off a little energy from her, enough to deal and fix any possible bruising he may have sustained. He doesn't necessarily need it, but he would quite willingly push his luck. Even though those words did recieve a warning cough of a sound from the guard. No funny business with that man around, but it would be quite against his character if he hadn't made the suggestion.
He couldn't just sprawl out on the floor like this, he wasn't some pathetic individual and so he gently pushed her hands away from him as he sat himself up, one hand going to the back of his neck to rub a little tension away there. He wasn't embarrassed and if he seemed marginally so it was simply a backlash of her own emotions, "couldn't watch you splat onto the floor.. It'd make him far too happy," he glanced over to where Kieran had taken a seat, a mild frown upon his lips now, "and I'm all up for ruining his day."
Introductions weren't something he's good with, it hadn't yet occurred to him that he hadn't given her his name. In all fairness he did have other things on his mind right now, an aching back being just one of them.

Her savior rolled over, seeming nonplussed but relatively uninjured. A dull sense of surprise threaded through her at that. But when he looked up at her, he'd just see her furrowed brow, a little nod of her head. He didn't sound upset, or like he was about to summon a demon to deal with her in a gruesome fashion. That was about as much as she could ask for here. "Okay...good." She let out a breath.
And immediately sucked it back in at the unexpected suggestion, her face heating up once again. Oh! "I...well, I wouldn't..." Words died on her lips, and she realized that's probably what he wanted. She was no stranger to being teased, though usually it wasn't for kisses. Then again. She looked at her guard, and summoned a bit of courage once again. One finger held up, she said, "Okay one. One. On the cheek."
She pressed her lips against his skin, a quick peck, and as she pulled away she felt somewhat more tired. Like how a lake must feel when being drained of water. Suspicious, she tilted her head. "Did you do that?"
After nearly a decade, it was still strange, realizing she was surrounding by people unlike herself. She was an anomaly in a den of anomalies. Somewhat he didn't quite fit in with vampires and ghouls. She wondered what category this boy fell into, as well as the one watching them, the one this stranger didn't want to give a show of death for.
"Do you know him?"
He seemed quite the opposite of the dark-haired lurker. More casual to the other's intensity. Nell couldn't sense auras—alright, she's tried—but she imagined his to be a soft pinks. Perhaps it was deceiving. Perhaps he would bite her head off if given the chance.
She stood up, too, brushing dirt and scuffs from her jeans.
"Have enough for one day?" her guard asked, eyes narrowed. He didn't appreciate the show. She wondered whether she would be written up for it, and couldn't really find herself to care. All they could do was move her to a higher risk level, and she doubted that would happen over a stumble and a kiss on the cheek.
"Not nearly," she said. "I want to look at the flowers."
"Fine," he said. "Twenty minutes."
Not even a trip to the medical ward. How sweet. She rolled her shoulders back, and turned to the person who saved her.
"Thank you," she said, realizing she hadn't yet done so. "I'm Nell. It's nice to...crash on you, I guess."
She was still embarrassed, but her lack of energy wasn't allowing for much else than a slight discomforted feeling. Nothing terribly worse than the haze she felt surrounding her head most days. She feared she hadn't much energy to lose in the first place.

Kieran was not oblivious to the other man's glance and frown in his direction. Still, it didn't surprise him. Many folks harbored distrust towards the Dullahan. Kieran was not going to validate the other stranger's misgivings. Instead, he remained where he was and rolled his eyes at the small, yet public, display of affection.

The sucked in breath paired with the pinkening of her cheeks would have been enough to turn his smile devilish, but the fact that he could feel the emotion that sparked through her too just made this a situation that tickled the psyvamp. So much so that he very almost told her that he was only joking and move on with the conversation. But then she agreed and he bit his tongue to keep himself from offering her an out. He's not a creep but it was only a kiss on the cheek, he was hardly stealing her virtue.
At being asked if he'd done 'that' though he blinked innocently, almost owlishly and obviously guiltily at her, "me? Do what exactly, it was your lips on my body, sweetheart, not the other way around." He sounded as amused as his following chuckle made him seem, he wouldn't be easily admitting in front of a guard that he'd siphoned off just a touch of energy from her to fuel himself. If they somehow managed to stop him from doing so then he'd slowly begin to starve. And he'd sleep.. He doesn't want to sleep. So he'd feign innocence and move the conversation on quickly.
"Not personally, no," he admitted easily, whatelse was he supposed to say? He wouldn't admit that the guy didn't 'feel' right, most don't take that as a feasible reason to dislike somebody. So he'd try another excuse, "he's one of the unseelie. The darker fae, heard of them? They're tricky, uptight and downright malicious at times. Dude needs a chill pill." And Louis is personally affronted that the dude gives fellow soul eaters like himself a bad name. Damn Dullahan. Louis cast a blank look over to the fae and stayed put upon the grass even after Nell got to her feet.
He only got up and halfheartedly brushed himself off when she mentioned wanting to look at the flowers. Her guard didn't any sort of reaction from Louis, he wasn't bothered about the man and his obvious irritability. Instead he went about his actions as if the man wasn't even there, not bothered by his presence at all.
"You're welcome" he almost thanked her in return, but he bit his tongue and held out his hand towards her, she could either take it or not, he wouldn't be offended if she didn't, in fact he'd still smile and gesture across the gardens, "they've recently installed a more tropical section to the garden. We'd have to walk past the grouch," meaning Kieran, "but it's definitely something to look at... Louis, that's me, and don't mention it." His smile widened to a bit of a grin, "and I mean that seriously, don't mention it, I don't want people to think I'm the type."
By 'type' he means the hero type of person, he doesn't want people thinking he just gives out favours.
