Someone had tried to get her into counseling ever since she got here and Mel kept refusing to do it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her or her fondness for freezing things and people. It was just how she was made and she didn't understand how talking about her feelings was going to change any of that. Besides, if she had a decent master, well, she was less likely to actually kill people with her ability unless they made her feel threatened or she lost control because of heat exposure.
After finding a dead animal carcass in the woods and practically mummifying it out of curiosity by drawing all the remaining moisture out of it, her guard had electrocuted her before she had a chance to hurl it at him and rendered her unconscious. Apparently, she did have a session scheduled for today with someone who might be better equipped than most to handle her abilities, so he brought her there before she came to again.
When Mel finally recovered from the shock, she was angry with her guard for shocking her and even more so when she discovered she couldn't liquify her own body to get away without getting a minor shock. She was told the device would be removed only if she attended the counseling session and was forced to sit and wait her turn. While she waited, she didn't even notice the fact that she was gradually freezing the chair she was sitting in and was covered with a layer of frost herself by the time it was time to talk about her feelings. What a waste of time...
"I showed up, can I go now?" she asked, glaring at her guard. DAVID MICHAEL BLAZE (You don't have to respond right away, Mel just wanted to get it up while the muse was there ^^)

David turned the page gently as his door opened. His eyebrows came up as she was led in to the chair. Frost started moving over it, as the guard shrugged at her question and left. David snapped the book closed and moved over to the couch, setting the book on the table and leaning back. He'd look her over and let out a low hum. Bringing a hand up, he removed his glasses and used them to gesture at the book shelf.
"There are a lot of great books there. Behind The Atlas Obscura on the second shelf is a glass and a bottle of whiskey. Feel free to grab them and a book, and relax for an hour. Or head through the door behind the desk- my bedroom has a TV in it with netflix and some films."
He'd replace his glasses.
"I will not force you to talk. The guards might bring you but if you don't want to be here, there's no point. So kick back, relax. The fridge and cupboards to the left of it have some snack foods if you want. Just don't freeze my shit."
He'd then lean forward and grab his book- "Shakespears works, Volume 4" and open it back up to read again. David wasn't like other counselors. If someone wanted out, he would let them. If the guards forced them here, he'd give them a relaxing hour. He didn't consider therapy something you were mandated to do. If you wanted a friend to talk to, he'd be that friend. But if you're forced to be someones friend it's a little less meaningful, isn't it? So, he'd read silently, and let her do what she wished.

Mel didn’t think there was anything wrong with her, which was why she was so resistant to the idea of therapy in the first place. It seemed like a waste of time and energy for everyone involved. “Well, unless your bedroom comes with you in it, it doesn’t really sound appealing,” she commented, raising an eyebrow at the man. Hey, she could think of worse ways to kill time. She wasn’t really interested in reading either, but she did get up to look over the books regardless, just to have something to do. The only reason she didn’t freeze his shit, as he so eloquently put it, was because he was offering her something while the guards thought she was doing something else. Leisure time. So instead, while she was browsing the books, she still kept herself cold, but she refrained from letting it spread across the books. “Not my fault my species is used as a weapon,” she commented off-handedly as she picked a book and brought it with her. She wasn’t sure whether she was actually going to read it or not, but it’d keep her busy at least. “Or feed off of negativity. Tend to lead to a lot of… uncomfortable situations for others.” That was all she was going to say about the matter, because really, it was why she thought it was highly unfair for her to be punished for being herself. Flipping through the pages of the book she’d brought with her, Mel sat down and pulled her feet with her into her chair. Usually, she would’ve either tried to make an ally or a meal out of this man already, but as it was, well, what he was offering wasn’t half bad. Seemed best not to play her games. Speaking of games… “You got any games in here? Seems like you’ve got just about everything else.”

David didn't seem to miss a beat, turning the page at her intimation of taking him to the bedroom. "It does not." He did glance up, however, as she stood and moved over to the bookshelf. Some of those books were so old, they were written and bound with goat and deer skin, in languages that were dead and gone. A stone slab or two was up there as well, written in Sumerian and other ancient dialects. She spoke as she did, David setting his book down to rest in his lap with a shrug.
"My people were harnesed as weapons too. The choice to be one before and after those moments is yours, though." He kept reading, not wanting to appear as trying to push therapy again, just answering honestly. David had fought wars for others, and fought them for himself. But he didn't consider himself a weapon because he didn't want to be. If he lived every day as others wanted to make him live, he'd be nothing but a slave to the whims of others. And that was definitely not who he chose to be.
"I'm sure it does. Are you warning me, or preparing me?"
He gave a little smirk. Clearly, David knew what she could do and didn't seem intimidated in the slightest. Everyone within these walls who stepped across his threshold felt the need to wrest from form of control from him, probably because they felt their lives were so far out of their control they thought a therapist could just be walked on. The thing was- David didn't have any desire for control, or to be controlled. He just...was. If someone wanted to play like he was forcing them to be there and act out as such, they could. If they wanted to chill, they could. If they wanted to talk, they could. It was entirely up to them.
"Unfortunately, I don't have any games. Not really my thing. I'm a boring old man so I tend to do boring old man things."
Another small smile, to show he was relaxed and enjoying the interaction.

Well, that was a shame. But Mel merely shrugged at his answer. His loss really. Or at least, that's how she chose to view it. Watching movies had never really been her thing either though, at least not alone, so if the bedroom didn't come with him in it, in one form or the other, she wasn't going to be watching movies either. She knew she could be fairly childish at times though, but that was just how she'd chosen to deal with life. Mel wasn't entirely sure what he was getting at, because being used for what she was was really all she knew. Sure, she had kind of gotten herself involved with a few of her previous masters, but things tended to get out of control even if they'd been decent when they realized how much power they really had over her. "Good for you, having a choice in the matter," she said, frowning slightly while her back was still towards him. Her kind were slaves, they could bend the orders somewhat, but at the end of the day they usually had to do as they were told and when someone wanted to use you as a weapon, well, then you really didn't have a choice. "Neither," she replied. It hadn't been meant as a warning, or as preparation after all. "Simply a fact." The way she saw it, if she pissed this guy off too much, she wouldn't be let out of her freezer box until she was starving and weak and that just wouldn't do. "And an explanation I guess, for why the guards don't like me much. Safer to piss them off for a snack than any of the other residents on my floor." Now, who said she couldn't be smart about her meals? She knew that if she pissed off the wrong resident, she could end up claimed by the wrong person on her way to her vampire friend after she was freed and that wasn't something she was particularly interested in. Mel wasn't really surprised to learn that he was older than he looked. Most people she'd met here so far seemed to be. Hell, she was way older than she looked, or acted for that matter. "You're never too old for games," she commented. "If that were true, I'd be a boring old lady, doing boring old lady things." She didn't believe you could outgrow things that made you laugh. Life was dreadful enough at times, had to find your fun where it could. Whether that be board games, playing people or sleeping with your master's enemies.

He laughed.
"You talk like someone is forcing you to weaponize yourself, now. Who is it? We can have a chat and get them off your case by end of day."
David leaned back, watching her. He didn't talk like a counselor- he spoke like someone who was talking to a friend, or to someone he was getting to know. He made no move to mask his words, like some scared child. He feared nobody within these walls, and he made that very apparently with the way he spoke and sat. His arm was on the back of the couch and he was totally open for attack, almost like he was inviting one.
"Or, you could just ask. I'd be happy to let you feed on my negative emotion, I have plenty available for consumption. I'm sure there are others who would help, if you asked." You know, instead of purposely pissing them off. He'd smirk at her saying you were never too old for games. There was a time, perhaps, that he'd thought the same. But seeing countless wars, countless shifts from bronze ages to industrial ones, from the time of aristotle to Einstein...it changed you. He struggled to find enjoyment in that, now focusing solely on the accumulation of wealth and knowledge.
"I'm two thousand years old. Or just a year or two shy of. That's....pretty old. I remember a time before games like that existed, when all people had were dice and sticks."
He leaned forward and grabbed his glass, taking a drink.
"Tell me about your species. Are they extinct now?"

“Well, not right this instance,” she said, shrugging slightly. “But I am technically owned. Guess I just lucked out with someone who doesn’t want anything to do with me, but go back just a few months and it’s been more a norm than the exception.” Mel guessed she was lucky she wasn’t being ordered about all the time. Mel turned to look at his when he offered his negative emotion like that before shaking her head. “Doesn’t work like that,” she admitted. “Can’t use just any negative emotion, it has to be directed towards me. Believe me, I’ve tried.” Life really would’ve been so much simpler if she didn’t need people to be negative towards her to feed herself. Would’ve had to annoy a heck of a lot fewer people too. Probably wouldn’t have turned into someone who bugged people on purpose either. It was a fine line between merely being a nuisance and being a pain in the ass, and she knew she tended to cross it on quite a few occasions. She wasn’t overly impressed by his age. People around here did seem to be a bit on the older side anyway, so it wasn’t a big deal. Still a stupid reason to not play any kind of games. “I grew up with snowballs and sticks, don’t really see the problem,” she said, chuckling slightly. “Granted, four centuries is a long way away from twenty, but still.” Yeah, no, if he was going to counsel residents of all ages without forcing them to talk, he should invest in some board games at the very least. Just in case. “Can’t be,” she replied, turning to grin slightly at him. “I’m here, after all.” Therefore, her species couldn’t be extinct. “As for anyone else, well, I only ever knew my parents, but they talked about others. Even if I never met them.” Mel wasn’t overly worried that she hadn’t really met anyone else like herself before. “From personal experience, if it hadn’t been for fear of starvation, I imagine my kind would’ve loved living in the Arctic. Unaffected by cold, but heat is uncomfortable.” Mel figured if she wasn’t as uncomfortable with making steam, she probably would’ve been more comfortable with warmer temperatures, but she preferred water or ice simply because she felt more at ease with those forms of the element.

David listened patiently, then gave a little smile.
"I have a certain capacity for enhancing emotions. For instance, a twinge of irritation at you freezing my chair could be enhanced to outright hatred of you, albeit temporarily. Enough for you to feed on, I'm sure. And it would mean less discipline for harrassing others." He shrugged, though. If she wasn't interested, he wouldn't force anything on anyone.
He just searched her eyes quietly when she got snarky about his question. Obviously, outside of herself was the purpose of the question. He listened as she spoke about the arctic, but would frown a little at that.
"Wouldn't that mean you'd starve? Assuming you have to feed off negative emotion, I mean."
David didn't know as much about her kind as he'd like, but he assumed feeding off each other wasn't so easy, so living alone in the cold would mean a lack of food source. Still, he'd let her explain, bringing a hand onto the back of the couch to open up his body language a little more and listen.

So he could enhance emotions and make her senses think he was negative towards her? It certainly was an interesting idea if it worked. “ I’m not hungry right now,” she said, turning to smile slightly at him. “Can try it next time?” she suggested instead. She had recently been a nuisance without actively harassing others. Some people just didn’t like being disturbed and that was often enough to sustain her. That was the one upside to Kyzer not utilizing her abilities. Despite having to feed more often simply because she was bound to someone, she didn’t have to replenish herself quite as often as she did when she was using the powers that came with that frequently. It seemed like a waste not to at least try it David’s way when she got hungry, but right now it wasn’t necessary. Mel would love to meet more of her kind. She had questions. Like how did they adapt to warmer climates? She imagined they would have to and that she should be able to as well, it was just that her parents had lived somewhere a little more secluded for their own safety. “When we’re not bound to anyone, we don’t need to feed quite that often,” she said, smiling slightly. “When I lived with my parents, we used to go to town every other week to once a month to feed, since we were all free. Dad was claimed on a feeding trip, as was I years later, don’t know what happened to him or mom as I was moved further and further south from there.” Mel liked to look at the bright side of things though, she had seen a lot of the world that she probably never would’ve if she’d been safely hidden away somewhere a little colder and less populated. “My first master was actually really nice. Nice enough that I stuck around even after she freed me. I’d lost control over my powers and she’d only tried to stop it, so she wasn’t overly harsh when she found out I had to obey her. She was more a mentor than a master, which was great.” Mel had really appreciated the witch and all she’d learned from her. Appreciated the way she’d been treated too. Looking back, it had probably been the best years of her life. There had been plenty of bad masters after that, but some had been really nice too.
