... He doesn't know.
He wasn't angry when he found out that he'd essentially been killed. He hadn't had anything in his life anyway and in one fell swoop he'd gained a connection with somebody that can't be easily broken. Another chance of being happy in a somewhat messed up family setting. Or at least he'd be a mentor. Or a friend. He'd hoped for more than that to begin with but Ez isn't stupid, he can move on. He's been surprised and mourned the loss of the sunlight a little but, he hadn't hated it. He'd never be alone again. Hopefully. Wasn't that what everybody wants? Or just him? "Uh.. Maybe? I mean, anger can't last forever right? I think all of our emotions and things are heightened quite a lot, so what you're feeling is like super injected with jet fuel. But it'll fade. I guess. And I have some pills that'd make you pretty damn happy in the meantime. For a price." Because he's limited at the moment so he'll need something in return.
"Couldn't you just like.. Keep calling them? And then if they want to come and visit just sort out some kind of paperwork to say you've developed a sun allergy but didn't want to tell them and worry them? We have forgers someplace in this place I'm sure." He could make official documents himself if he had his full abilities at his fingertips but he doesn't. "Or, I dunno, just ghost them entirely? It's not like they'll find you here and do you really plan on going back to where you came from after this?"
He made a thoughtful sound at her question about a job. "I've never thought about working, really.." Because he was out of school at sixteen and serving somebody until their untimely death.. Since then he's just been living his life like a little junkie, enjoying himself and making up for what he see's as 'lost time'. Not to mention just trying to ignore every piece of abuse he went through, sexual and physical. He's not quite there, counsellor's still can't get him to talk about any of it, "I mean.. There's really no rush for something like that now that you're in this world, right? I mean, obviously got to find a place, but you're still new, there are so many more possibilities and stuff now."
He blinked at the monster comment, not quite offended but a little shocked by the statement. He doesn't think that he's a monster in any way.. Then she went ahead and softoned the blow a little bit, but she was still wrong, "uh.." He took a sip of his bloodbag before continuing, "no? I mean, there are angels here.. And Fae, the good kind and the bad kind, the good kind aren't really monsters. Not that you should go looking for them, they're kind of ridiculously irresistable, I mean, their blood? Like liquid sunshine, I can't describe it, it's.. I'll get you a shot of it sometime so you can see for yourself maybe. But not when there are people around.." He squirted another little mouthful of blood into his mouth, his mind drifting to Ky, he won't be introducing this baby vamp to his boyfriend right yet, he might be half fae but he smells delectable, "but yeah.. Lots of potential monsters learning how not to be monsters. Nobody wants that kind of isolation, right?"
Cos how often do you hear of monsters having monster friends?

Devyn couldn’t help but think that maybe this wouldn’t have made her so angry if she’d had a choice in the matter. Or at least been aware beforehand. And if she’d had anywhere near a competent teacher in all this from the start. As it was, it was hard to feel like this was a change for the better when she’d just been left here because someone realized they’d created a monster. A rage-filled, hungry little thing that would’ve gladly pushed her creator into the sunlight if it wasn’t for the compulsion to listen when he said no. She could only hope that Ez was right and that it would pass, because right now she felt like a bottomless pit of anger, ready to bubble over any moment. “What kind of price?” She found herself saying, pushing aside an insult he really didn’t deserve to try to be civil. This wasn’t Ezra’s fault, he was trying to help and thus didn’t deserve her insults. Of course she could just keep calling her parents, but sooner or later they would want more answers, or better ones than a sudden sun-allergy. Even if she fed just before seeing them, she would still be colder than them and struggle not to want to bite them so it seemed better not to see them. “Doesn’t matter what I plan on doing, they’ve got the money to find me if they get too worried. Ghosting is not an option, going to have find another way to cut ties.” Dev might not be as close to her parents these days as she’d been when she was younger, but she knew they wouldn’t just let it go if she completely ghosted them or kept talking on the phone but never visiting again. They had expectations after all. Not working had never been an option for her. Didn’t matter what with, it was what she’d been raised to do. Go to school, get an education and a decent career, family and kids. Of course, she hadn’t been told outright they expected her to have children, but it had always been implied. “No rush for something like that…” she repeated. “Have you ever worked a day in your life? Because that sounds like a homeless lifestyle or relying on other people to house you if the streets don’t appeal to you. Might not need to find a job tomorrow, but really don't want to stay here forever either. Rather know what I aim to do when I get out before I get there." Sure, she might not be ready to work anytime soon, but it was good to have a goal and she wasn't interested in just sitting around doing nothing or having no plan for when she did get out of here. It was impossible not to see what they were as monsters when this was all so new. Because it was so different from what she was used to and they really were capable of some horrible things. She figured part of the reason she was here was to learn how not to be a monster. "Well, for people who've caught the social bug, I imagine that kind of isolation would be horrible." For her? Well, she was used to using people to get to where she wanted so would this really be all that different? "How about you just point out a fae-type scent if one comes by, and I'll know to walk the other way for the time being?" she suggested. If they really were that irresistible, it seemed best for her to walk away from them until she had better control over herself.

"Money, preferably.. Usually I'm in a position where I can make money pretty easy," literally, "but I've hit some difficult times at the moment, so I need cash. But whatever you have? I mean, if you're desperate I can figure somethin' out." Half of the stuff that he has would probably be a touch too strong for her, unless she was doing drugs before she died in which case her tolerence might be a little higher than he thought.. But for some reason he didn't take her as a regular drug user before she died, "any other dealer would expect the same.." And it's hardly as if the two of them are good friends.
He could get paid too.. If her parents had money then doesn't that mean that she too would have at least some money? Ez isn't an expert on families, but he's pretty damn certain that they share stuff. Right? He just rolled his eyes a little when she mentioned that they had the money to find her though, she really had no idea about this world, did she? "So? They could be royalty and they'd never find you here.. I don't understand why you can't just keep calling them for half a year, or a year and then just go see them when you're not in danger of ripping their throats out.. The other way is just disowning them, write down a horrible speech of some kind and reel it off to them. Break their hearts but at least they won't have to come to terms with their kid being a 'monster'."
She was rubbing him the wrong ways at the moment. So bloody negative and not willing to listen to any silver linings.. Tch..
He just stared at her as she gave him a little speech about finding a job, his mouth wrapped around the edge of the bloodbag he'd torn as he drank the last of it down at his own leisure. When she'd finished speaking he licked his lips before shrugging a should nonchalantly, a soft frown on his lips, "I didn't realise you were as pretentious as those potential doctors and lawyers you went to school with, talk about being a bit of a hypocritical bitch." He took in a needless breath, "unfortunately, little miss junkie killing 'must get a job' as soon as, you're going to be here for at least the next year so stop stressing about useless things now and focus on the more important things. Like 'how do I not rip people's throats out?'. Seems to me like you're worrying about the dumb shit and not what's important."
"At this rate I might just toss a shot of fae blood at you," he muttered to himself as he bit into the next bloodbag, he was getting annoyed. Negative emotions aren't something he tends to like dwelling on so when they do raise their ugly head he's not so very good at controlling them. And he can be a spiteful little shit at times, "if you continue with the attitude you have I'll just fuck off and leave you be, I have more self respect than to hang around somebody who thinks I'm some kind of scrounging, useless, junkie. Judgemental types don't deserve shit from me."

She nodded at his words, made sense he’d want money like everyone else. She supposed the big question was whether she wanted to spend her allowance on drugs or sober up entirely. She figured one was probably good for her long term while the other might help her adjust better to this annoying feeling that was nagging at her ever waking moment. “Fair enough,” she said simply, smiling slightly at him. She would have to think about it really. It wasn’t that she minded the occasional hit of something, but she’d never intended to live her life dependent on dealers and drugs. Clearly, Ezra had a very different relationship with his family than she had. He made it sound so simple to cut ties, which made her think it had just been that easy for him, but her family wasn’t like that. It wasn’t going to be that easy to cut all ties with them, but clearly there was no point trying to make him see that, so she merely shrugged and held her tongue. No point arguing when nothing seemed to register with him anyway. Dev chuckled slightly when he called her a hypocritical bitch like that. “Seems like you’re missing the point entirely,” she said, sipping the bag again. “I’m entitled to be angry, hurt and bitchy about having my life stolen from me for a little while longer. And if bitching about what I’m gonna do for work even a year from now is going to help get me through that, who are you to tell me it’s a worthless waste of time? Not everyone gained something from dying, because living forever sure wasn’t on my bucket list.” It seemed a little unreasonable for him to think she should be grateful she’d had her life stolen from her like this to become something she’d never asked for in the first place. Hell, she had no intention of living forever, even now. What was the point? “You know, for someone who doesn’t like judgmental types, you’re quite judgey yourself,” she pointed out. “Now, who’s the hypocrite?” Yes, she could be judgmental, but here he was, judging her because she wasn’t just accepting the fact that this was her reality now. That she had to drink blood to survive and wanted to rip into everyone because they smelled good.

She didn't seem very keen to him.. He wondered to himself what type of person she'd been before she'd died because she wasn't exactly hitting him as the 'addict' type. Not the typical ones that he meets on a day to day basis anyway. Regardless, he didn't think that he'd be seeing her for drugs anytime soon, he didn't expect there to be all too much business from her. Not that he particularly cared, he doesn't have an unlimited amount of pills right now anyway.
If she had bothered to ask about his own family then he'd have told her that they were the ones who had cut ties with him so suddenly and easily. If it was that easy for his parents to cut off their own son and kick him out of their house within an hour of learning of his mistake then he can't see why any other parent would be any different. He'd begged them for help, for forgiveness, he'd gone back and been threatened by his father to leave them be 'or else' but they hadn't wanted to know. But, she could make assumptions about him all she likes, if she'd rather do that than ask him then that's her problem. But he wouldn't be surprised to know she was coming to her own conclusions in her mind. She was obviousy a rich kid. Smart kid. Doted on kind of spoilt kid. He was making assumptions himself.
"Sure, you're entitled to be angry," he started with a frown, "hurt and bitchy too, but you're not the only one with bad shit happening in their life. So you had your life stolen from you, boohoo, welcome to Manson, there's a lot of us rejects here, you either get over it or you wallow in your self pity and make your life even worse." He was irritated now. Really he'd just like to walk away from her here and now before she gains more information on how to find him, "and yeah, I'm judging you, because this ain't reversible. You are what you are, some people can roll with that, other people would rather mope like a depressing pessimist." He dropped the empty blood bag onto the table and bit into another, a little too hard because a little shot out over his cheek, which he wiped away with the back of his hand with annoyance.
Dammit.
"I'm more of a realist. And the reality is that you don't have to worry about work. You'll either find it in the future or you won't. What I was trying to say to you is that you should focus more on finding your new self rather than what you'll do in the future. Because the 'you' that you are now won't exist in a year's time, you'll be different, you'll have more control over your hunger, your speed, your emotions. Things that seem impossible now won't be then. It's good advice... But if you'd rather piss people off with your incessant negativity and smart ass attitude then go for it," he shamelessly licked the blood off of the back of his hand, "don't expect people to stick around much. I don't even really want to be around you now and I like most people."
She was a pain in the ass already, irritating him, judging him and.. Well, she was just like one of those snobby bitches from his old school. He wouldn't be surprised if she started looking down her nose at him right now either. He should just roll his eyes and walk away but he wouldn't, not yet. He'd give her a chance to realise how unreasonable she is.

This place was weird. She knew why she’d been classed as an addict, her bloodwork certainly hadn’t been clean by a long shot. She wouldn’t say she’d been a regular user before all this, but she wasn’t opposed to drugs at parties. Trouble was she didn’t really have time to study, pick up odd jobs and party every weekend. Right now she had a choice though. These days, staying high or drunk seemed to quell the hunger more than anything else she’d tried at least. That didn’t mean she wanted to remain addicted to certain things in order to function. No, she wanted her old life back, or as much of it as she could at least. Listening to him speak, Dev resisted the urge to roll her eyes at him. “If I want to wallow and take a little time to grieve what I lost, maybe you should stop trying to cram silver linings down my throat. What is it they say? Five stages of grief? Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance... you trying to be all sunshine and roses about this isn’t exactly going to jump me straight to acceptance.” Had this guy not had any kind of education at all? Or any kind of stronghold on reality? It wasn’t normal to just accept something life-altering you’d never asked for, never even thought was real or even an option. Maybe if she’d grown up knowing about the supernatural world, she would’ve been a little less pissy right now. Watching him squirt blood on his cheek like that did make her smile slightly though. It was amusing how quick he was to lick it off his hand too. “Just because life got turned upside down, doesn’t erase growing up a certain way,” she said, sipping her blood bag. “When you’re expected to have your shit figured out at eighteen and have your whole life planned out from there, it’s not quite that easy to just ‘turn it off’,” she said, making quotation marks in the air at the last three words. “Just because things are different now, things being so new still, doesn’t mean all the things I was raised to prioritize aren’t ingrained in my brain. So which one of us is really being unreasonable when you seem to expect me to be OK with being dead instantly?”

"I don't have to sit here and listen to you," he muttered, his gaze had narrowed into a glare, "boo-fucking-hoo, mummy and dady expected so much of you and now you can't fulfill their dreams of your future, what a fucking tragedy. How about keeping all of your fucked up drama to yourself if you don't want advice or somebody to tell you how bloody stupid and idiotic they think your thoughts are?" He downed the last of his bloodbag and stuffed the remainder of the bags into his rucksack. A mild breeze seemed to be blowing around his body but he was just getting himself irritated due to her attitude and the waning amount of drugs in his system. He wasn't high enough to be dealing with a smart ass, depressive bitch of a vampire who wanted help but didn't want to listen.
He just wanted to tell her to go and fuck herself.
"Your old life is dead. Deal with it or mope about it, those are the options and you're moping, and judging. Go bite into somebody's throat and get yourself chucked into isolation, see what I care." He zipped up his rucksack and stood himself up, "I'm not going to sit here and listen to you drag me down because you're a fucking idiot. I ain't your counsellor and I certainly ain't your friend. You probably see junkie homeless guys like me as scum anyway, maybe you should find yourself some uptight, doctor/lawyer wannabe, snobby, rich bitch to hang out with. You'll be in great company." He was pretty much just ranting now as he made sure he got all of his stuff before he started to just walk away from her.
He was done. He wasn't listening to this shit any longer.

She didn’t know what this guy’s problem was, but he wasn’t being very realistic. Did he even have a firm grasp on what was reasonable? “Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today,” she commented. “Sounds to me like you’re the one that needs therapy if someone isn’t allowed to wallow a little after having their life taken from them.” And people called her selfish… He was a proper drama queen is what he was. Him insisting again and again that her old life was dead didn’t exactly make in any easier to accept and it was something he should understand that she needed to come to on her own terms. Having it crammed down her throat wasn’t going to make it happen. Listening to him rant just made her chuckle as she focused on her blood bag. He could go fuck himself for all she cared, she wasn’t the only one with an attitude problem right now. But there was no point in pointing that out because he was clearly not interested in listening anyway. She was determined to stay where she was and finish eating, probably eat a little more than she strictly had to as well, because she wanted a few moments of not having that hunger rule her life.
