Life had been good where she’d been living until now. But that didn’t mean life wasn’t good here too. In some ways, it was almost better. In the sense that she got to discover what she was to the fullest in a way she never would’ve been able to at home. She missed them though, but she was glad she still had her aunt and that she wasn’t all on her own. Even if she had to stay in her own room and it was lonelier than she was used to, it was also nice to get to explore her powers more than she was used to. Cora nodded at what he said about her mom. She knew that was why she didn’t see her as much as other kids saw their moms. She might not always like it, but she could understand that it really was safer for her to be hidden away. Even safer now that she was hidden further away someplace nobody could just take her away from. “I’m hoping so too, but if not, at least I know she’ll be honest about my options. She doesn’t seem like the type to lie just to try to spare someone’s feelings.” So far, her aunt seemed like she could be a little blunt. Even if she was sure that the woman could’ve lied to her and said she loved her, Dutch had been very clear that she was going to do her best to keep her safe but that was it for now. They would have to work on a relationship because they didn’t know each other. And in a way, while that was kind of harsh, it was also fair. The woman hadn’t known she existed until she showed up to save her after all. Cora couldn’t expect her to suddenly care about her beyond wanting to keep her safe. Would Dutch knock Oz over the head for making her tired? Probably not, but it wasn't entirely unlikely either. Especially if she didn't know why or who this guy was. She might think he was trying to take advantage of her or some other overprotective instinct and so she didn't really want Oz to get hurt because of her. "I'm sure she won't really mind, once she's talked to you, she's just a little bit overprotective," she said, adding: "Written consent won't be necessary if you talk to her." Cora didn't think it would be anyway. Her aunt wanted her to learn how to fly so why would she be opposed to someone else teaching her? Wasn't the most important thing that she learned how to? At least that's what Cora thought and if Dutch disagreed, she would argue with her. The fact was that it would be easier to learn from someone who seemed a little closer in age to her than her aunt was and that might just have some fresh ideas. "I'm scared of heights, so swan dives don't really sound like fun anyway." Cora was in no rush to fly high in the sky, she just wanted to be able to use her wings. Her hellhound form was a lot more natural to her than using her wings was at this point, but she figured with practice they would eventually feel natural too. "I mean, I like climbing, so not like scared of ladder heights, more than kind where you can barely see the ground." Somehow that seemed like an important distinction. Because there was a huge difference in her mind. A lot safer to fall out of a tree for one thing.

Ozzy was still getting a feel for Manson. So far, so good, but he was sure there was more to it than the handful he'd encountered. He'd seen the Secure Ward and the guards that stalked about. He wasn't going to say trouble was on the horizon or anything like that, but the place wasn't filled only the good seeking counsel. Oh no, he knew that behind those secure doors, something dangerous lurked. It was both exciting and maybe a little nerve-wracking at the same time. Whatever the case may be, he couldn't say he was feeling lonely by any means. Ozzy hadn't exactly been a people person since he'd been turned anyhow. Solitude was perfectly fine by him.
Growing up, Oz wouldn't have lost an ounce of sleep his parents had disappeared out of his life. He'd have been glad to not have someone breathing down his neck, telling him what to do, how to do it, and why to do it. Ozymandias never had dreams of being some hotshot historian or scientist or anything special for that matter. All he wanted was to live the chill life, but his parents had expected the world. They'd expected him to walk on water when he could barely stay afloat. Their expectations were far beyond his reach, yet there had never been a chance to tell them that without them butting in to tell him how he was letting his potential go to waste. Maybe in the long run they'd been right, but he'd only started writing and doing seminars due to all the shitty choices he'd made along the way.
Guess I was a late bloomer, he thought smugly.
"The truth is hard to swallow at times, but that's better than everyone sugarcoating it." He gave a shrug. "But you're a kid. Sugarcoating stuff for you guys is fine, sometimes." He'd sugarcoated a lot for his little girl. She didn't need to know that the world wasn't always a safe place. It had been his job to ensure that she was okay every step of the way.
Oz got the feeling that this Aunt Dutch of hers was more than a little overprotective. After hearing the child's background, it was hard to assume otherwise. Weren't furies supposed to be short tempered? Oz had a short fuse himself these days, but he didn't go around assaulting people. "Hopefully everything goes well, if not I'll write down as much information about flying as I can remember from my time of learning." Oz was not a fan of learning things, never had been, but flying had been one of those things that he'd enjoyed from the start, crashing landings and all.
"I don't mind heights and they don't sound fun," he told her with a small laugh. "But don't worry too much, we'll take it one step at a time until you've got the hang of it. If you want to know something specific, I'll teach it to you, so long as I know how to do it. In the meantime, you should be getting indoors and I need to start my day...evening, whatever you wanna call it."

This place had certainly seemed pretty scary at first, but the more times she explored and went to classes, the less scary it got. It was actually pretty awesome that a place existed where she could get to work on her abilities and do regular classes all at the same time. And it didn't really hurt that there were nice people around either. As long as she didn't venture too close to the secure ward or the people who had guards with them at all times she figured she would be perfectly fine. Cora nodded at what he said. She was used to people sugarcoating things for her though, which was why it was refreshing to be around adults that didn't do that. Even if it was hurtful or scary at times, it was nice to be trusted to be able to handle it. And if she couldn't, she knew there were people around here that could help with that too, so she wasn't overly worried. "I'm sure it'll be fine," she said, smiling slightly at him. "She isn't unreasonable." She hadn't meant to scare Oz away from talking to her aunt, she just figured he should know it was probably for the best that they did talk before any lessons occurred because she didn't really know how her aunt would react to some stranger keeping her out or up at night. Well, stranger to Dutch that is.
When he said she should be getting indoors and he should start his day, she smiled slightly at him. "It was nice meeting you," she said, getting up from where she was sitting. "Have a nice day, and I'll hopefully see you soon," she said before she shifted back to her other form and headed for the door to her dorms. He was right though, it was late and she really should be getting to bed.
