Ozymandias had risen from his coffin an hour before sunset, but thankfully his room had no windows, so he wasn't going to burn up because he didn't feel like sleeping in late. The vampire decided to put in his headphones and listen to music in order to kill some time. He'd gone down the list of music Sorrel had sent him and chose whatever looked interesting. Moving about his room, head nodding to the beat, he picked out some clothes to wear. He still hadn't gotten any classes yet, so he had yet to figure out what he was going to do once the sun had finally set. Good thing he had an hour to figure it all out. When his alarm finally went off on his watch letting him know the sun was officially down, Oz slipped out of his room and headed for the showers. Once he was all squeaky clean, he found his way to the canteen. He did not like drinking from blood bags, but he'd denied himself a meal long enough. Three nights with no food, he just couldn't keep it up. Once he'd had his fill of blood, Ozzy made his way around campus, searching for something worthwhile. It didn't take him too long to find a playground. He suspected all the kids were sleeping or at least being confined indoors, so he could play on the swing and slides if he so wished it. Childish, maybe, but if he went off of his vampire years instead of his human ones, he was a child. Ozymandias swung on the swing for a bit, letting his mind drift. Tomorrow night he'd be meeting with some of the staff to talk about his daughter, so that was positive. And tomorrow was Friday, so he could go catch a movie in the common room afterward. Now he just had to figure out what to do tonight. If only they'd let him fly to town and see the nightlife. Apparently, that was a no go until he could hide his fangs, to which he'd asked weren't there witches to put a spell on him to cover it up. They hadn't been pleased, but Ozzy hadn't either, so now they were even. Eventually, Oz made his way to the slide. He slide a few times before he just resting at the bottom, humming lightly to himself. He'd move eventually, once he knew where he was going. Tags: CORA WESLEY DELACROIX

Ooooh she wasn't supposed to be out this late. Not that it was late late, but it was dark. That was late enough. She had been exploring the grounds and lost track of time. So she had shifted to her hellhound form and was walking back toward the youth wing through the playground carefully navigating past the equipment when she spotted someone using the slide. It made her stop in her tracks and sort of just study him for a moment before she crept closer. Cora may have lost track of time because she had been trying to use her wings earlier, but she hadn't really managed to do much more than shift them out and tumble over after flapping them a few times, but it just seemed better to try on her own and figure it out on her own terms. That said, right now she was curious about this adult that was acting like an overgrown child. The black dog kept moving closer, looking more like an insecure dog than the beast she had the potential to be because she was insecure about strangers. She'd shift when he noticed her, provided he didn't seem threatening, but for right now she felt safer in the form she was faster and more capable of running away.

Up. He was going up! As quickly as he could possibly go, partly scrambling, partly flying, partly gliding. Ozymandias had no idea what was coming towards him, but it didn't look friendly in the least and he didn't want to become a snack for before he'd even had a chance to get comfortable. "Nice doggy," he said from the top of the slide. "Easy does it." This thing, whatever it was, was clearly trying to make a meal out of him. He hadn't exactly read Cora's body language as non-threatening. Oh no, he'd read it all wrong, and his actions spoke a lot louder than his words. He'd thought her to be some kind of werewolf at first, but a more careful observation had him thinking otherwise. Whatever it was, it was hideous.
"Look, if this is your turf, you can have it," he called down. "I'm not looking to piss on anyone's territory. Was just looking for a spot to chill until I figured out something to do." He hoped he was high enough to avoid any serious danger. He glanced around. Were there more of them? What if they were surrounding him in the dark. He hadn't even seen her until the last minute. He could have been the things chew toy! Ozzy was suddenly very grateful that he'd had a decent meal tonight. If he had to fight, he was going to need all of his strength. This thing looked like it could put up a fight.

Cora let out a soft whine when he started going up the slide in such a peculiar manner. She stopped moving though and laid down on the ground for a moment but when she realized it was fear that was driving him more than anything else, decided that maybe it was for the best to just let him see that she wasn't a danger? Walking around herself for a moment, she turned back into the little girl she was and looked up a the strange man. "I'm sorry," she said quietly, wrapping her arms around herself in a little hug. "I didn't mean to scare you." Her clothing gave away the fact that she'd been in the forest though as her pants were covered in dirt. She hadn't been crawling around as much as she'd just been falling a lot. Sitting down on the ground again, because hey, she was already dirty so what difference did it make, she looked up at him. "How did you do that?" she asked, pointing towards the slide. He hadn't just scrambled up the slide, it had almost looked like an elegant retreat from where she'd been. "I'm not supposed to be outside after dark, but auntie said that if I'm going to anyway I should at least do it in that form," she explained. At least now she understood why her mother had insisted she never shift around the house unless it was an emergency. She imagined anyone stopping by prior to Dutch coming for her would've reacted pretty much the same way this guy did. And it explained why Dutch had insisted she use her hellhound form to move around after dark because not only was she faster and able to move more quietly in that form, but she was also apparently a lot scarier than her human form. It also felt save having teeth to bite back if anyone tried to play rough, even if she wasn't really looking to bite anyone.

Some of the people he'd met were fascinating, this one, not so much. Ozymandias had had his run-in with the big, bad, and ugly, but he wouldn't say he was much of a fighter. He wasn't even much of a lover for that matter. He was a good little mix of the in-between if you pieced together his life. Ozzy had seen a lot of things around campus, but not a hellhound. He'd half expected the more human form to be some big, gruff fellow that looked wild and untamed, but instead, he was presented with a little girl covered in dirt. He would have been beet red with embarrassment if he could plus. A child, not much older than his own daughter had just terrified the living hell out of him.
She apologized, but he remained at the top of the slide. "Er, you're fine sweetheart," he told her. No reason to go upsetting a kid, although she didn't look too upset from his standpoint. She'd even gone into an explanation of why she'd been trotting around like some wild beast from the depths of hell. Her aunt had advised as much to keep her out of danger. "I just wasn't expecting many people to be out this late." It wasn't even late, but she was a kid and should have been indoors. "You've got a pretty wise and caring aunt," he offered with a smile. "I bet she's always looking out for you." What was a kid doing in a place like this?
Since she was sitting now, he knelt down some. He wasn't leaving the slide until he was at least ninety percent sure this wasn't some kind of elaborate setup. Looks could be deceiving and he was not going to be caught with his guard down if he could help it. "I'm a vampire. Flying comes with the territory, or at least in my case it does." He pointed at her clothes. "Why are you all dirty?"

Cora couldn't help but feel bad that she had frightened this man, because the last thing she ever wanted to do was scare people for no reason at all. All she'd been trying to do was get back inside and had gotten distracted. She enjoyed meeting new people though and the people around here seemed to want to let her be herself, all of herself, whatever that may be. It was a nice change of pace for sure. Yeah, she missed the people who had raised her, but she couldn't dwell too much on that as she was just trying to adjust and be excited about getting to learn more about what she was. "I lost track of time," she admitted when he said he wasn't expecting many people to be out at this hour. It was impossible not to snort slightly at the mention of wise and caring aunt though. "I only met her a few weeks ago. Overprotective is more like it," she replied. "She tries her best, and she brought me here so I wouldn't be alone, so I'm trying too." Cora might not understand why she couldn't spend time with her mother, not entirely, but she understood that Dutch did her best and that it was better to be here with her than all on her own in the world. "A flying vampire?!" she exclaimed, excited about the mere thought of something like that. It sounded so... Well, it was utterly fascinating is what it was. She didn't think she'd actually met a vampire before. This place was absolutely amazing! "I failed at flying," she mumbled, rubbing her knee gently. "Or, excelled at falling. Depending on your point of view." She had definitely nailed the falling bit, without actually getting hurt namely because she was trying from a really low height.

"Time does seem like a frivolous thing these days," he said absently. He'd assumed his stay at Manson would be short, but the weeks had started ticking by so quickly. He could only imagine what he would be like fifty years from now, or even a hundred. "Children tend to lose themselves in their own innocence, protected from the harsh realities by their own imaginations. It is a beautiful thing." He gave a lazy smile. "Cherish your youth little one." He blinked slowly as she mentioned only recently meeting her haunt. He didn't find it strange at all. Leora would be in the same predicament if he'd ever chosen to reconnect with his family. "Better overprotective than uncaring at all." Everyone took everything for granted. It was almost an innate fatal flaw. "It is kind of you to give her some leeway. I imagine she appreciates you putting effort into making this all work." It was merely an assumption on his part.
Ozymandias' smile gained a bit more life as she got all excited. He adored children. "Yes. The only in my bloodline that I'm aware of." Strange how he'd developed such an ability. He enjoyed it though. It was probably the only thing he enjoyed about being a vampire. He slid down the slide, remaining seated at the bottom. "Excelled at falling sounds better. You only fail when you give up, and you, my dear, do not look like a quitter." He shook his head. "Flying is difficult, not impossible." He tilted his head. "I didn't recall you having wings a moment ago. Can you fly without?"

Cora couldn’t help but giggle slightly at what he said. Time really was fleeting and she was trying to make the most out of free time, because she spent most of her days just learning all about this world and her species. There were things her mother had never told her and she had a feeling that was because she hadn’t had time. It had been more important to teach her how to control her shifts it seemed, and now she understood why. Wouldn’t do anyone any good if she got stuck in one form without knowing how to shift back. “I’m trying to make the most of it,” she said, grinning slightly at him. “Though I do enjoy learning too.” Classes were why she had wound up spending her evening outdoors after all, they’d taken up most her day. “She might not have had much of a choice in coming when I needed her, but she could’ve left me to fend for myself,” she said, feeling kind of lucky that Dutch hadn’t seemed to think that was a good idea. “She brought me here so I wouldn’t be on my own in the world. Least I can do is try too,” she said, smiling slightly. She knew it was an adjustment for her aunt, as it was for her, but she was grateful she had a roof over her head and a place to go to school. Not to mention the fact that she didn’t have to worry about food. “Oh wow,” she said when she learned he was the only one he knew in his bloodline. Whatever that meant, it sounded special. Like he was special, and that was something to be excited about. “Quitting isn’t in my genes,” she said, grinning slightly. From what she understood, neither her aunt nor her mom were quitters, so if she’d gotten the quitter gene it must’ve been from her dad, whoever he was. “I have wings,” she exclaimed, all excited about showing them off. So she got up again and focused for a moment before shifting them out. “Can’t really use them much though,” she admitted, running a hand along the dark feathers. “I grew up thinking I was human, and never really had much of a chance to learn. They’re not strong enough for lengthy flights yet and I’m kind of scared of heights.”

It actually warmed Ozymandias' soul to see that Cora had a positive outlook on life. He himself was all gloomy and morbid, but children were special. They deserved to be happy, no matter how shitty the world around them was. "That's excellent." The vampire nodded lightly as she said she liked to learn as well. "Really now? What's your favorite subject?" Ozymandias wasn't obligated to take classes, but he was considering it now that he'd been here a little while with no result. Sure he could walk about for hours, or listen to music, or play his guitar, but it got old. Maybe taking a few classes would help spice things up. The question was, which classes would be worthwhile. He'd never been one for school.
Ozymandias didn't understand why her aunt had no choice in the matter. Everyone had a choice. He was glad that the woman had not abandoned the child though. Who could possibly be that cruel? Ozymandias had been an adult when he'd been kicked out, and yes he'd had to fend for himself, but at least he'd been old enough and capable to do so. This child couldn't be any older thirteen. Ozzy was tempted to ask where the girl's parents were but decided it was best not to touch on that topic in case it was a sensitive one. "That was very kind of your aunt. Hopefully, you will find that the decision was a wise one." He couldn't offer any advice on how Manson would treat her, he'd only just arrived himself. Hopefully, it would be kind to the both of them.
Ozymandias still didn't think it was all that special. He was waiting for the day that some vampire showed up and proved that they too could take to the skies. "Sounds like you come from a tough family." That could be a good thing or a bad thing. Wasn't his place to point out as much. Blue eyes were curious as she stood up. First, she'd been a hellhound and now she could sprout wings? What was she? He could definitely lump her into the mythical creature categories, but they weren't much of a myth if they existed. Ozzy stayed put as he looked over her wings from where he was. Didn't want to get too close and spook her. Then again, she had more chances of scaring him than the other way around. "It's not all that scary if you're looking up instead of down." He crossed his arms over his chest. "Best you exercise your wings with your feet on the ground, unless you want to continue exceeding at falling." He gave a small smirk. "If you've never used them and they're underdeveloped, you won't be getting off the ground. My advice to you, stretch your wings and flap them every so often without take off. Get used to their weight so you'll have an idea of balance because eventually, they'll be supporting your weight. That's the tough part. Preparatory stuff is easy." His eyes sparked with an idea. "If you know how to swim, you'll benefit from using your wings in the pool. Excellent way to build their strength."

Cora had never really understood why she was she interested in school, but she had always just enjoyed diving into learning. Maybe she had just been trying to find out where she belonged. She clearly was starting to think this was the place though. At least for now. “Always liked numbers, so probably maths and life skills,” she said, biting her lip for a moment. “Can’t wait to learn more about fire though, it tickles, would be nice to learn how to make it too.” She didn’t want to burn anything down, but she just wanted to be able to make it for when she was cold. “Hopefully it’ll turn out ok,” she said, smiling slightly. She liked this place so far, it didn’t seem half as bad as she had expected when she’d first been brought here. It sure was better than being on her own or in whatever world her mother was in right now. She wasn’t sure she would enjoy a world full of demons and fights. “Family of warriors,” she admitted. Both her aunt and mother were after all, she had no doubt her grandmother had been too. Or still was. She didn’t really know. All she knew was that she was named after her. She shifted away her wings again when he started talking about exercising her wings and looking up rather than down. It was all sound advice. Cora was looking at him as though he’d grown a second head for a moment before she couldn’t help laughing. “I think my aunt has forgotten what it’s like to be my age, because she never thought of that. Or at least didn’t suggest it,” she said, amused that a complete stranger seemed to actually have good advice for how she could make her wings stronger. “I mean… she is eight hundred years older than me, so maybe she really doesn’t remember not being able to fly.” That made sense to her. She wasn’t really judging Dutch for being old, just that she might have forgotten what it was like to be a child. If she’d ever been one… “It’s kind of confusing,” she admitted, sitting back down on the ground again because she felt awkward just standing around. “I really don’t know what I’m meant to grow up to be. The fury that flies around getting back at people, the hellhound that’s a loyal pet or the girl that has a normal life. Think reading the right books will help figure it all out?”

Math and life skills. Ozzy had never been good at math, or anything school related, but he'd somehow made it through high school. Then years later he'd went on to get his associates. It had been quite the accomplishment, but he'd never thought it to be something grand. He'd just done it in the hopes to provide for the very woman that had assumed the worst in the end. Ozymandias supposed that nothing could last forever. Ironic coming from someone who was practically immortal. Life skills was a useful course. He was guessing every child could benefit from it. He had no intentions of signing up for said classes, even if he did eventually choose to participate in the offered courses. "In that case, best of luck to you." He was sure she would do well. Then she dropped a rather interesting fact. "Interesting talent you have there."
Again he found irony in this particular topic. Children were often scolded to not go near fire because it was bad, but here she was, speaking on how it tickled. Oz was hardly the person to get into lectures, so he wasn't going to start today. He wouldn't even advise her to be careful. He didn't really know what she was or the extent of her powers, so why bother to try and discuss something he didn't have a full understanding on. "Firemaking huh. You're just full of surprises." He leaned back some. "Is that a common trait amongst your family of warriors?" He had an image of hellhounds and fire throwing women that looked like amazons. Scary that.
The expression on her face was priceless, but then she started to laugh and he was feeling a bit confused. He blinked as the girl spoke on her aunt's age. Eight hundred. That was a long time to be alive. He'd thought Mel was old. Never a dull day around Manson. "It's how I learned to fly," he told her. "Figured it might help you out a bit." He smirked. "As for your aunt, being that old, I wouldn't be surprised that she's forgotten. All the knowledge she's acquired over the years, and flying being second nature, things like being young and a beginner tend to be lost to the rest."
The more they talked, the more he learned. She was a fury and a hellhound. That explained the creature she'd first appeared as and the wings for the fury side. Oz opened his mouth to tell her that books weren't going to help her figure out what she was supposed to be, but decided against it. He took a moment to come up with an appropriate answer and still fell short. He settled on a small shrug. "It's a start."

As much as she liked her regular classes, Cora most of all wanted to learn how to make fire. Not because she wanted to learn how to burn things down, but because she wanted to learn so she could learn to control it and avoid accidents. “I don’t have it yet,” she said, chuckling slightly. “I’d rather learn how to do it safely though. Don’t want to accidentally start a fire down the line and hurt someone. It just seems like one of those things that’s better to learn in a safe environment than try to figure out on my own.” Cora would much rather learn how to make fire from the dragon, but for now she would just have to settle for the class because her aunt had asked her not to bother him at work and she wasn’t allowed to go see him at home. “Mom can make fires, my aunt can’t.” Then again, Dutch wasn’t a hellhound so it made sense. Age apparently was a thing that just lost any meaning after a while. At least if she was to go by her aunt and mother’s description of it. They were both centuries old after all. “She also grew up knowing what she was from the start. I kind of picture her learning to fly long before she was my age the way mom talks about grandma. They were raised playing with knives and learning all about what they were. I grew up with a human family and only learned I wasn’t like them a little over a year ago when my wings first popped out. Maybe if I’d grown up knowing about them, I would’ve used them more too.” Cora wasn’t bitter about that though, she had cherished her toys and normal life. Even if she hadn’t known it wasn’t all that she was. She had loved going to a regular school, making friends and coming home to people who loved her. On some level, Cora knew that reading wasn’t going to solve her problems, but right now it seemed like her best option. It seemed like the most likely way to get some answers about what she was anyway without anyone else telling her what they thought she should be. Not that anyone had tried yet thankfully. Aside from Dutch pushing her to learn how to fly, but she figured it was most likely because the woman seemed so relaxed when flying she thought it would be fun for Cora to learn too. “Can you help with the flying bit?” she asked finally. “I mean, once I’ve built up some strength and my wings are strong enough to handle it. I want to make my aunt proud by getting a handle on it, but I don’t want her to watch me fail until I manage to stay in the air.” She kind of hated the feeling of disappointing her aunt though, so she figured if she learned the basics somewhere else first, maybe her aunt would be proud of her for figuring it out on her own. Well, with a little help, but without needing to be pushed so hard to get it right.

Oh, that made sense now. She wasn't able to use fire, but it was one of those inherited traits. Ozzy could relate to that. "That's very considerate of you," he spoke. Fire was one of the more dangerous elements in his opinion. It destroyed a lot of things in a short amount of time if exposed to enough oxygen. The man would hate to see Cora cause that kind of destruction by accident. She really was a precious little gem to be so young and so aware. He commended her for understanding her limitations and wanting to better herself for it. "And wise." He stood up, stretching a bit. He was getting a bit tired of sitting down. Since he'd stopped writing, the only time he could stand just sitting around was while playing guitar, and even then he was more prone to jamming out instead of playing something soft and relaxing.
Ozymandias did not want to grow to be centuries old. He was still struggling to come to terms with being like this until he could reverse it. He also had to come to terms with that would never happen. He was stuck like this, until the true death. "Sometimes people grow up different from how their parents were raised. It can actually be a good thing, even if it means working a little harder for things like flying." Ozzy was willing to bet that Cora's mother had dropped her off with humans to keep her safe and to give her a shot at a normal childhood. She could have dropped her off with a bunch of supernaturals, but she'd chosen humans. He supposed that was one of the reasons he hadn't offed Evelyn and taken Leora. He wanted her to grow up with a good life, but he also wanted to be part of that life.
Oz walked a wide circle, just so he wasn't standing there like some weirdo. "Sure," he answered. "I'll help, so long as it's okay with your aunt. I don't want you getting in trouble or being too tired to actually go to class in the mornings." He could help her during the early evenings, right after sundown, that way she wouldn't be out too late. "You can't possibly fail when you keep getting back up, but I understand. You'll get through this in no time."

Cora had no doubt that if she had remained where she’d been growing up, her mother would’ve eventually had to step in and teach her how to control her powers, because she had no interest in causing trouble. It had worried her ever since she’d first learned that she was likely to be able to control fire and she was glad she could learn all about it in a safe environment here. With teachers and staff that knew a thing or two about fires. “If there’s one thing my mom and aunt agree on, it is that it’s safer to learn dangerous things from people who know what they’re talking about than to try it on my own. When those two agree on something, it’s best to listen.” While she hadn’t really known her aunt all that long, it was clear that she had a different way of doing things than her mother, but she figured if they agreed they couldn’t both be wrong. “Mom is friends with some really bad people. I think maybe humans was the best way to make sure they didn’t find me either. She can’t help it though, demons and hellhounds sort of go hand in hand.” Cora didn’t blame her mother for visiting sparingly once she learned the truth. Sure, there had been times she had resented the woman for only showing up when it suited her, but now that she understood more about what she was? Well, she’d come to understand that maybe her mother really had just been trying to protect her all these years. Why else let her aunt take her here? “I’m kind of scared of growing up and have no choice either, but Dutch said she is looking for another way and I can’t help but believe her. She really does seem set on keeping me safe.” Cora had yet to actually talk to this Robert guy, but she figured maybe her aunt would ask him more direct questions than she was able to and get answers. She also didn’t seem the type to be scared of meeting the people who might have some if Robert did not. Cora nodded at his condition for helping. It sounded only fair. “Don’t want her beating you up for making me tired,” she said, no hint of a joke. It seemed like the sort of thing she might do after all. “She just got to teach flying though, so might not be more than a smack on the head if she wants to be allowed to keep doing that. She’s usually in the dorms after dark if you want to meet her. She blends in with the night too well to be allowed outside after dark without an escort.” Cora didn’t think that was fair at all, but she also figured it was for a reason. Couldn’t have her spooking people by accident. She beamed at his words though. She loved how nice he was. “I can only hope to one day make it look as effortless as she does. Though I don’t think I’m likely to share her fondness for swan diving from great heights.” That was just crazy.

Oz smirked. His parents agreed on a lot of things, but he'd never listened to them. If anything, he'd always thought them to be a pain in the ass. Always telling him what to do and how to do it, never giving him a chance to just be himself. He'd had to pave his own way, straying from their teachings and rantings until finally, they'd had enough of him. They'd kicked him right out the door and he hadn't looked back since. Cora had it good. Sure, she might be running the risk of being bound to a demon for all of eternity, but at least she had at least one parent that wasn't going to just abandon her. At least she had someone looking out for her. He hadn't even considered living with his aunts or uncles or his grandparents. He'd just hit the road and lived life to the fullest. "I agree with your mom and aunt on that one."
The vampire was thankful that his kid didn't have to grow up looking over her shoulder, wondering if someone was going to snatch her off the streets because he'd been involved with the wrong people. If he'd still been an addict when she was born, it might be a different story. "She's just looking out for you. Trying to keep you safe. It's what a good parent is supposed to do." He knew how sucky it was to be tied to someone. He was forever bound to his creator and had to do as the guy commanded, but it didn't mean he lacked a voice in certain matters. He was guessing things weren't as peachy with Cora's mother. "Hopefully your aunt can find some answers. You seem like a good kid. You deserve to live your life the way you want to."
Oz raised a brow when Cora stated her aunt would fight him for making her tired. The fact that there'd been no hint of a joke made him reluctant to have offered to begin with. A fury vs a vampire. Who would win? "I'd rather not fight your aunt over something so minuscule, so let's agree to get written consent as well." Smack on the head or a full out fight, he'd prefer to avoid the conflict, especially when he was helping her niece when she'd clearly failed to do so. Low blow? Not his problem. "And if it will make things easier, I'll meet her in the dorms for a meet and greet." Ozzy smiled as she beamed. Kids really were adorable. "Stick with me, and I guarantee you'll be an ace flyer. Swan diving is a different story," he mused with a small chuckle.
