It had been a while since Fabian had been tested, sure he had been involved in a lot of fights but that was inevitable working in the lower level, where the high risk residents are held. But he could cope with a vampire temper tantrum and a shifter who can't shift in peace easily enough simply as he had twelve years of of experience to back him up. If he faced an elemental who thought filling their room with water was a good idea, well he just get rid of the water without breaking a sweat. Fire, likewise, probably while casual sipping coffee... if he had one at the time.
But there are always times you can be surprised or just on the end of some bad luck. Today was such a day for Fabian. By the end of it he was still standing if a bit bloodied, and minus some of his uniform that had gotten torn off, throw aside or shredded by the claws of a tiger-shifter who for whatever reason, hadn't taken the meds that keep them near enough to stable.
Panting a little Fabian stood over the cuffed and now human body and glanced around and up to a security camera, giving them a finger to send someone down before refocusing to the resident. After this he wasn't hauling the guy to the medical centre too.
After waiting a few minutes he heard someone approach, hopefully help. Fabian was kind of pissed some people here were not doing their jobs properly and allowing those like this tiger-shifter to avoid medication, seriously considering demoting a few in the hopes a lesser pay check might change attitudes if not get them to quit so he doesn't have to fire them.
If it was another resident coming to cause trouble, pity them, Fabian wasn't in the mood for it.

Mel had spent the last few days locked in a room. She'd been on a timeout after the cafeteria, really only getting out of her room under threats to behave or she'd be shocked again to see her counselor. And she'd only needed to see him for a snack. It was dangerous for her to be locked away for too long after all, because a starving marid was likely to lash out to get a proper meal rather than just a snack here and there. Snacking was safer for everyone. She was on the way to a little outdoors time, actually sticking to her guard for a change because she didn't want to get shocked again, when they stumbled upon Fabian. Oh, screw being on her best behavior, she wanted to do something. Anything. She was so bored! It was worth a little shock, right? Poking her guard in the arm, she froze him in place and sauntered over to look at the shifter (she assumed it was a shifter anyway) and knelt in front of him. "Someone's been baaaaad," she cooed, chuckling slightly as she looked up at Fabian. "That is some awesome waterworks there, dude," she complimented him.

First Fabian saw the guard and it seemed to have a knock on effect to his adrenalin levels as he felt himself instinctively relax because help was on the way, and suddenly feel the effects of the fight he just took on came over him. So when he noticed Mel too he inwardly groaned… Her cafeteria actions had caused so much of a headache and a hell of a lot of paperwork that nobody in the team needed. He would have questioned why she was out so soon but couldn’t find the breath to ask the guard, who in the next moment was getting frozen to the spot anyway.
A small growl escaped Fabian as Mel then walked over to the tiger-shifter, rather than respond to her he lifted a hand towards her guard in an attempt to unfreeze him but found he really didn’t have the energy to do it, so instead just leaned back against the wall. Guards here were tough, or should be, Fabian figures the guy should be able to cope with being a bit frozen for a while.
“Why are you out?” Fabian asked Mel a moment later. Who allowed it? He wouldn’t have himself, at least not to someone who clearly can’t counter her little freezing tricks. Also, was more help coming or was the frozen guard the best that can be done right now? Clearly Fabian wasn’t very impressed but he felt grateful that at least Mel seemed to be intrigued right now instead of wanting to make the situation worse.

Mel didn’t really think her actions in the cafeteria had been all that bad. She hadn’t killed anyone, she’d just had a little fun. That said, she knew it was all against the rules of this place which was why she didn’t put up too much of a fuss about being bored out of her mind as a result. She wanted to be doing things, to have more fun, but she also knew that she should probably be a little better behaved beforehand. Just enough to get near a drain anyway. Or make that vampire summon her, that would work fine too. The growl was ignored by her, she was more curious about the person on the floor. “Peckish,” she replied simply to the question, looking up at him. “Better to keep a Marid well-fed.” Mel had no doubt that if she didn’t need people’d negative emotions, she wouldn’t have been let out of her room at all just yet. As it was, if she was left to her solitude for too long, she wound up not really being able to control herself and definitely would hurt someone to get proper meal, ending up with more permanent damage than just a few frozen limbs here and there. Fabian was harder than most to get a read on, and probably someone she wouldn’t be able to get a good meal out of without outright pissing them off. Pissing off the head of security for fun seemed like a bad idea, even for her. “Honestly, if you people found a way to properly exhaust the awesomeness that’s me, I’d stop doing things like that,” she said, gesturing towards the guard, “out of pure boredom. Because right now, I get in trouble for sneezing.”

Fabian was well aware of how most of the residents in the Secure Facility ate because most followed a logical pattern. If they are a vampire, they need blood. If they are a shifter they need meat. If they are a gifted human they need whatever is on the menu that day. But Mel? He knew she fed on emotions but had left it to others to figure out how that worked as it was all a bit too bizarre to him.
Hearing that she was ‘peckish’ caused him a little concern as it seemed like however they might be feeding her, it wasn’t enough or just not being met well under the solitary conditions. But, emotions, they were all around all the time, surely? It made him wonder if Mel was just being difficult about they type of emotion and from who she fed off. Anyway, it all didn’t equal a good reason for Mel to be walked about how she was. People can be brought to her if needed not the other way around as it clearly resulted in things like a frozen guard.
As Mel spoke more Fabian just focused a bit harder to her, then briefly to the guard. So she did that as she was bored? More reason she shouldn’t have been let out but rather properly entertained. People don’t harm others just from being a tiny bit hungry unless they are crazy or have no regard for another wellbeing.
“No, you don’t.” Fabian started to reply, you can get put in solitary for a lot of things but ‘sneezing’ wasn’t one of them and he felt a need to point that out. Harsh but fair was how things worked around here most of the time, it had to be to stop all chaos breaking loose and he didn’t want it to be thought of as otherwise.
“How do we exhaust you?” Was his next question since Mel offered up the info that doing so would save them work, it seemed logical to ask the method. If he get a reply or an honest answer was another matter but the guard had some hope. That and he hoped he could entertain Mel long enough for proper help to arrive so she didn’t try filling her snack void on anyone around here or the passed out shifter that probably wouldn’t be in too good a mood when they came around.

Maybe it was possible for her to feed off of other emotions than negativity directed at her, but if it was she didn’t know. She’d never been told differently, and nobody had attempted to teach her to see if it was possible either. She was just going off of what she’d been taught as a child and knew worked. It might be something to explore with the classes here, but that hadn’t really occurred to her yet. “I tend to freeze things when I sneeze, so yes. I get in trouble for sneezing,” she corrected him. Aside from when she was really scared, hurt, kept in unsuitably warm conditions… sneezing was the one thing that tended to make her lose control for a second. Sure, it wasn’t exactly something most people would get in trouble for, but with her powers it did end up happening. Thankfully, she didn’t sneeze all that often. “Well, since I don’t imagine having a live-in sex-friend is an option, getting to use my powers more productively should do the trick.” It was an honest answer. She needed entertainment, needed to be kept busy and she would be a model resident. “A controlled outlet and all that.” Sometimes she just got overly cold after all, namely because she hadn’t used her powers too much and it kinda bubbled out in bursts of boredom. “Maybe now that winter is rapidly approaching, I won’t feel so overheated, or the need to lower temperatures in places.” Mel could be a handful, she knew that. But if she could use her powers and be entertained, she wasn’t likely to hurt people for her own amusement unless she got particularly hungry outside of the sessions she was attending with David to get a snack.

Sneezing and freezing someone and sneezing normally were two very different things, so of course Mel would be locked up if every time her nose her itched someone got first bite. Fabian found it hard to believe she had no control over the action, most know when they are going to sneeze and can at least put a hand over things or look away from people. The lack of sympathy even after he was corrected probably showed on Fabian’s face, his mood was low so his usual neutral appearance to how residence were disciplined was lacking and instead he seemed pretty much to agree to what Mel had experienced so far. Until those with restrictions showed they can be trusted they can’t expect things to go their way.
Mel showing she was willing to share how to handle her better was one step towards gaining that trust. Though the way she started caused the guard to pause. Was that a joke. Sarcasm, maybe? Sarcasm was how he took decided to take the comment rather than Mel seriously thought they might offer up a victim for her to play with whenever she felt the need. Of course some did come in here thinking that but they were old, ancient species, not like Mel who he credited with more intelligence than to really think that.
“You can be signed up for more elemental classes.” Fabian said plainly, not addressing the first part of the remark because his expression probably said it all. “Mandatory pool sessions if needed.” The Pool House was pretty big, gym sized rather than a small home thing so he could see no reason why Mel can’t use her powers in it a little even if she can’t fully let rip. Fabian learned that the hard way… He can’t see maintenance being happy about semi-rebuilding the place again. It was also good to know the next few winter months might also give them all a break. There was only so much you can do in the summer, though it never gets too hot, there were days it felt unbearable. Fabian could have a little sympathy with Mel on that since he didn’t like hot weather either. Not that it caused him to go around altering the temperature or freezing, things… well, his own space he kinda felt didn’t really count.

While she could stop a sneeze most of the time and avoid freezing things, it wasn’t always possible to stop them or cover her face to prevent people from getting frost bite. Thankfully, she didn’t sneeze too often, but still. So yeah, she got in trouble for sneezing, she had just felt like that needed to be clarified when he tried to correct her. A playmate definitely would help exhaust her and make her more compliant, it would also be an excellent cure to boredom. However, since she wasn’t expecting them to lock some poor soul in with her, she figured she should probably offer another way to make it easier for her to behave herself. She might be older than she looked, but she wasn’t delusional. It had just seemed worth mentioning before moving on. “There are elemental classes?!” she exclaimed. “Why haven’t anyone brought that up before?” That sounded awesome! And it made her wonder just what they’d been thinking when it hadn’t been the first thing she had signed up for. At least she’d have an outlet that way and not get in trouble, that sounded like a great plan. “Sign me up for all the classes, it’s got to be less boring than being stuck in a room.” It sounded awesome really, and way better than being stuck in her room all the time except when she could sneak out or away from her guard. “Sorry about freezing the pool the last time I was there. It seemed like a safe place to hide from the heat. Promise not to do that again if I get to spend time there to let off some steam.” Last time she’d been to the pool had been when she’d been hiding from that one particular guard, but thankfully he’d left her alone since so she didn’t want to tattle. If she told on him, she would definitely get tossed in. “Kaia was kind enough to let me float at the bottom of the lake most of the summer, so nighttime schedule in the summer and warden Kaia during the day would also be good. Unless I can get warmed up a little without feeling like I’m melting, even the basement wasn’t cold enough this summer.” See? She could be cooperative. Especially when she wanted something. Even if all she wanted was a way to have a little more fun.

How on earth could Mel not know there are elemental classes? The confusion was as much apparent on Fabian as surprise seemed to be on Mel and he thought someone had really missed the mark somewhere along the line with this resident. He knew his own job was to make sure risk level was assessed well and necessary precautions put into place rather than to organise schooling schedules, that was for admin and the teachers, who he would be talking to later… or most likely making someone else talk to later. Fabian wasn’t much a talker and a bonus of being Head in Security meant he can make people do stuff for him. So he had no answer for Mel as to why she had not been informed and gave a small shrug. “Oversight.” Was all he could come up with.
Moving from the wall Fabian sat the knocked out resident upright and pulled them to the corner. He was really feeling like he had to do all things himself around here sometimes… “You can get signed up to three, to start with. Elemental being the main subject.” Fabian replied simply, then based on how well she performed and behaved in those more could be added.
At this moment a guard did walk in to take care of the shifter and the frozen guard but Fabian didn’t give them so much as a brief glance of acknowledgment before he was focused on Mel, guessing he was going to need to take over the monitoring of her scheduled outside time.
“It's seen worse.” Fabian said casually, not that he or he suspects any of the other staff and students really want the pool frozen over repeatedly so if letting her have some sessions in there prevented that it would be silly to not allow it.
When Kaia was mentioned Fabian frowned, he didn’t like that she was getting herself involved and so wouldn’t be authorising anything that directly made use of her.
“Follow me.” he said instead and started to walk down the hall, planning to grab some fresh uniform, maybe something to eat on the go, take Mel to the pool, she can let off steam and he could relax an hour or just keep her easily entertained.

An oversight? That was one major oversight. Hopefully it’d help her feel a little less bored at the very least so that was something. Boredom was the worst thing in the world, it was even worse than being tortured. Or being ordered around. “Sounds like a plan,” she said, not minding the restrictions on how many classes she could be signed up for as long as it was something to do. A break in the boredom and daily life of sneaking away from the guard. When someone other guards showed up, Mel sighed. At least they weren’t taking her away yet. And Fabian didn’t seem too upset that she had frozen the pool when she’d been there. “I’m sure maintenance appreciated that I unfroze it too,” she mumbled. Sure, she figured Fabian or someone else on staff might’ve been able to do it too, but it had saved them the trouble of having to when she’d just done it herself on the way out of the pool. Follow him? That was awesome! Waving her hand, she unfroze the guard effortlessly and stood up properly. “Where are we going?” she asked, skipping slightly as she caught up with him.

As he walked Fabian planned to make some notes on his work phone, mainly just updating Mel’s profile to include the lessons she wanted to sign up to because if it was on there then it would hopefully be noticed and those who were put in charge of organising a residents schedule would actually organise it for her. He also put himself down as a possible assigned guard for the swim sessions, not so much as he thought she would need it but more as a precaution, her level meant she needed to be watched even if in a watery environment it seemed like she might be on her best behaviour. She said it herself, sneezing causing freezing… accidentally or not.
With the other guard here dealing with things Fabian got started on his plan and moved down the corridor, he just assumed Mel would obediently follow (blame the alpha in him) and the fact he right now had the authority to grant something she wanted so it would be silly for her to run off and he didn’t think Mel was silly, unlike a lot of the violent types he dealt with. There was no reason for her to not know he plan either and so he told her, in his own bullet point kind of fashion.
“Main station,” he started to say, and was where he planned to make her wait, “Locker rooms, canteen, pool house.” Or at least he would be going to the extra places.
Once at the main guard station he looked to the guards at the desk but spoke to Mel. “Wait here.” before walking off down another corridor. It would take him about fifteen minutes but he came back wearing some fresh clothing, holding what looked like slices of beef in one hand, while a pair of swim shorts were slung over his shoulder. Fabian was undecided to if he would actually get in the water of maybe just sit on it and play around but he had the option now. The food was to shut his growly inner wolf up. It was hungry after the tiger fight and this was going to have to satisfy until a bigger, meatier meal could be found.
“Pool house.” Was all Fabian said as he passed Mel.

Mel was practically skipping alongside Fabian. It didn’t matter where they were going or what they were doing, she was getting to go outside for more than just a snack! This was awesome! It was kind of good to be happy like this and just get to be herself. Even if the only thing she got to do right now was walking, it was time outside of her room and she loved that. She’d even behave for now since he was giving her the time of day and giving her a chance to get more outside time in the form of classes, which had to mean she got to use her powers without getting in trouble. She was skipping along behind him, just wanting to know where they were going, pouting slightly when she heard all the places they were going, until he ended his sentence with ‘pool house’ which cheered her right up and was reason enough to just go along with all the other places. Mel sat down where she was told to wait. For a while she was twiddling her thumbs, before she started pulling water from the air to make a nice little sculpture simply because she was bored. So when Fabian finally emerged again, she placed the little ice wolf on the desk and followed behind him until they reached the pool. The fact that she’d been let out because she was in need of snack was entirely forgotten as they got to the pool. She loved a chance to just play with her element and forget all about the rest of the world. Never mind the chlorine, water was water as far as she was concerned and she was excited to just get to play. Mel didn’t really have a swim suit, but she figured she didn’t really need one either as she dove headfirst into the pool and emerged again pulling her being together just enough to be human-shaped water. “How much control do you have over water?” she asked, genuinely curious.

As they reached the pool Fabian made no move to stop Mel from diving straight into the waters, it wasn’t as if he hadn’t done the same many times himself when the place had been empty so he could hardly reprimand her for doing it too. Though it did mean he held back from going off to change into any costume just as he had to keep watch over the Marid. Instead he slowly walked around the pool’s edge and dropped his costume onto a bench before sitting himself down at the side to observe.
Mel’s question caused Fabian to think for a moment… He knew his control was good but how do you quantify that? If he could throw out the contents of the pool, and shoot an overly eager werewolf counsellor into the air, would that class as good control or excellent? Total even? “Almost complete.” Was what Fabian went with saying just a moment later, assuming that if he had totally complete control then he have mastery over all water's forms, ice and steam included, when really it was just the liquid state that he held most power over. Ice secondary with steam never being something he took much interest in trying to use.
Almost if to demonstrate some of that Fabian shifted to sitting on the water but remained dry, only his hand getting wet as he dipped it to pull out a small watery ball to toss between his hands and squash like a stress reliever. For a brief moment he wondered if Mel was going to test him but decided the question was an innocent one.

It was nice to just be one with the water. Play around with it and make it do her bidding. It seemed like a good idea to figure out just how good control Fabian had over his element, however, just in case she had to watch out for him. Just in case she had to be careful about him trying to control her. After all, she was more water than most people and she didn’t know him very well. Watching him sit on the water like that without getting wet himself, Mel smiled to herself. “It’s nice to have more hydrokinetics around,” she admitted. “I mean, it’s scary, I’m all water, but it’s nice. Been centuries since I’ve been around anyone remotely like me.” Mel missed having someone to play with, to just play with water with. Pulling herself into a sitting position on the water herself, Mel made nice little water fish dance across the surface of the water. “Water always makes everything better.”

Fabian couldn’t think why having more hydrokinatics around might be scary but he agreed with it being nice. Kaia, she can control water and she was lovely and he saw her as a sister of sorts. But it took a second for the guard to think Mel was perhaps afraid she could be controlled by said hydrokinesis, and given what Manson is, there is a higher probability that should someone know she is more water than woman that they might exploit that. Fabian wouldn’t unless he had to… It was something he was unsure if to share, not only as he worried it might unduly scare Mel but also his power over people was a fairly new discovery and at best he could create resistance in a person, stop them being able to throw a punch or just make them unsteady on their feet. It greatly varied and depended on the other’s strength really. So he simply nodded the threw the watery ball between his hands before glancing towards Mel as she produced watery little fish.
Water did make things better. It was relaxing, fun to play in, good to work out in, good for dragging your husband into too. “It does.” he said and then added, “I wouldn’t worry about anyone trying to control you.” Fabian just didn’t see it being a very big risk factor and maybe it was worth mentioning that.
After watching the fish a comet later Fabian ask something he hoped he wouldn’t regret. “What else can you do?” Mel was here to have fun, sure but he also wanted to tire her out a little.
