Dress code
The dress code must be decent. Sweaters, blouses or shirts have to cover the stomach, the breast as well as the back. Camisoles or clothes of the same kind (tube for example) are allowed as long as another garment (sweater, blouse or shirt) is worn over it. Pants or jeans must be worn at the waistline or at belt height. Short pants and skirts have to fall just above the knee or longer. A dressing gown over your sleepwear is required when you circulate out of your room. Clothing showing offensive graphs or offensive messages is forbidden, (racists, sexists, disrespectful, violent, etc.) For security reasons, it is forbidden to circulate on the Academy wearing a headband, a scarf, sunglasses or a hood.
You have to be dressed by 10 am and 10 pm for our nocturnal residents. If you are not, the staff members will ask you to do so.
Hygiene and bedding
Showers and baths are available from 9:30 to 21:30 except at nap time, meal time and between change of staff (15:30 to 16:30). It is asked that you use them daily. The maintenance of your room is your responsibility as well as the cleanliness of the common areas. Out of respect for your autonomy and by concern of hygiene, you have to change your sheets at least once a week. In the commissary we do offer holistic options for those of you who are allergic or sensitive to normal detergents, toiletries and so forth.
Personal belongings
Please bring with you the following items for the duration of your stay: soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, facial tissue, comb, brush, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, shaving cream, sanitary pads, cigarettes, etc. The space assigned to you is restricted; please bring small sizes. Valuable items such as jewelry and musical instruments won’t be kept by the Academy . The Academy is not responsible for lost or stolen items. You have access, on demand to your personal items as long as your safety and that of others is not compromised. Any negative influence on the therapeutic environment or the collective well-being as well as a lack of respect for the latter could restrict the access to some of your personal items. Electric or electronic devices such as cellular, radio, computer, electronic games, fan, and television are forbidden. However, walkman, MP3 players and IPODs might be allowed accordingly to your treatment plan. Razors with blades and plastic bags are forbidden at all times. It is forbidden to lend, borrow, sell or exchange personal items between each other (ex: money, food, etc.).
Sleeping and rest periods
Sleeping disorders are frequent for a large number of our clients. Therefore, we recommend a quiet and restful environment. The staff make regular rounds to detect any abnormality and watch the comfort of each. This is observed and done in a discreet manner. Not everyone follows a normal day time schedule and there are many residents who are required to sleep throughout the day. Please remain respectful of each others sleep schedules and tried to keep noise to a minimum when around the dormitory areas
Meals and food
It is forbidden to circulate in corridors with food or beverages or to drink and eat in your room. Everything must be consumed in the dining room. As a general rule, trays will be served to you in the dining room of the Academy according to the following schedule:
• Breakfast: 8:45
• Lunch: 12:15
• Dinner: 17:15
Any food supplied by the canteen is free and residents/staff will not be charged. The Academy diligently works with our local farmers to assure the freshest and most organic food can be served to our patrons. As always vegetarian, vegan and raw diets are available. To assure there is no cross contaminations with special diets are prepared in their own section in the kitchen and served in a separate area in the canteen
Although a dietician follows and tries to balance the meals served to you, certain medication can cause increased appetite, constipation and other unwanted side effects. The nursing staff can recommend strategies to minimize these unwanted side effects and can also advise you on dietary changes. Any reserve of perishable food is forbidden, snacks can’t exceed the storage space attributed to you. Considering the community setting of the Academy , it is forbidden to have food delivered by a restaurant or brought by a visitor.
Eating is not an optional thing here at the Manson Academy. Residents must consume enough nutrition a day to maintain a healthy BMI. If a resident refuses to eat regularly planned meals by our dieticians the Academy reserves the right to use a Nasogastric (NG) feeding tube.
Commissary and Medical
The Academy commissary is a place from which residents may purchase products such as hygiene items, snacks, writing instruments, school supplies and even clothing. Typically residents are not allowed to possess cash but funds can be deposited into the residents account in the main office and or online. instead they can make purchases through an account with funds from money contributed by friends, family members, etc., or earned as wages. For those who do not have access to funds through private donators or wages some financial assistance is available. The staff here at the Academy will provide whatever possible so our residents don't go without
Just like with commissary the medical staff here will provide care at no extra cost. Not only does the Academy medical unit provide western medicine but holistic where it is required. Upon entering the Academy each and every resident will be given a physical on arrival and will be required to have regular doctors visits and yearly checkups.
Comings and goings
It is forbidden to stroll in corridors, near exits or to sit down on the ground. For reasons of confidentiality, when you approach the nursing station or any other area reserved to staff, please do not pass the entrance. It is forbidden to enter the room of others. You are invited to socialize with others in the common areas and not in rooms. Privileges to go outside will be individually evaluated. When these privileges are given, you have to inform your nurse before your go out. In accordance to your care plan the nurse will discuss your state of health and the modalities of your outing. Outings are allowed from 9:30 to 21:00 except between 15:30 and 16:30. You have to notify a staff member upon your return.
For those of you who reside in the private dormitories and do not have to regular check ins you must return to your rooms by the designated curfew times. General curfew are listed below

Elemental, Shifter and Werelike individuals
The staff here at the Manson Academy fully understand you need access to land outside of the campus. The forest and lake that surrounds the main campus of the Academy as well as various greenhouses and solariums have been provided for you to work with. Please respect each others spaces and not to destroy another beings area. Please do not go beyond the official hunting grounds that surround the Academy or out into the local farming lands. The edge of our grounds are clearly marked and in accordance with the towns people we have agreed to go no further. If you are unsure which areas of been allotted for us you can pick up a map at the main admission office or commissary.
Smoking
According to the law and the policy of the establishment, it is forbidden to smoke inside the Academy. This measure applies to all, clients, staff and visitors. If you smoke, your doctor could authorize you to go outside to smoke. Otherwise you can smoke on the balcony at the designated hours and/or we can suggest nicotine lozenges and a protocol of stamps. Your guests must notify staff members when bringing you, cigarettes, lighters, matches and any other item used for smoking. Drugs, alcohol and energy drinks It is strictly forbidden to consume or to possess drugs, alcohol or energy drinks on the Academy . Any drugs or other substances prohibited by law and found in your possession will be handed to a security guard according to the policy of the establishment. The illegal trading of these substances obliges us to lodge a complaint to the police, which exposes you to legal proceedings.
Violence & Aggression
Respect others no verbal or physical threats will be tolerated. Assaults on others or vandalism oblige us to lodge a complaint to the police which can be followed by a transfer to a detention center. Ask for help before losing control. Anyone who voluntarily breaks material belonging to the Manson Academy will be required to pay the cost for repairing or replacing the broken item.
Under no circumstances are residents and staff alike allowed to use their gifts and abilities against another person. If need be a resident will be paired up with a staff member will be helped/showed how to use their abilities in a learning type setting.
Miscellaneous
The staff accept no profit resulting from its relationship with a client, other than those provided by their employer. Any staff and residents caught in a illicit relationship will be promptly fired and resident will be transferred to another facility. Residents are no longer allowed to visit staff's personal homes or allowed to venture off campus with a staff member in a non sanctioned event. IF residents are allowed to attend a group like outing more than one staff member must be companied on said trip.
Services available at the Manson Academy
A hairdresser or a barber is available by appointment or according to an agreement with them. If you plan to use their services, make sure you have the necessary money. Pastoral service is available upon request. For more details, refer to the staff members. Money can be placed into your account either online or in person during normal hours at the main office.
Inpatient DBT Based Programs and Recovery Center
The Academy now utilizes elements of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for its inpatient adolescent males and females.
The most important goal of The Manson Academy’s DBT based program is its focus on helping patients create lives worth living. This program gives patients the opportunity to achieve those lives. The Manson Academy’s program does this by helping residents learn techniques that:
• Move them from being out of control of one’s behavior to being in control. • Move them from being emotionally shut down to experiencing emotions fully. • Helps them work on building an ordinary life and solving ordinary life problems. • Moves them from incompleteness to completeness/connection.
