This was absolutely outrageous. Not only had it been demanded that she remain in human form to eat outside of her room, but she had to wear these dreadful clothes that really felt like cheap pajamas. She hadn't been able to bring any of her own belongings when they had come to collect her, so she had to wear the clothing they provided here. Ill-fitting, itchy, ugly... Just the first things that came to mind. Yen had money, she could get herself some new clothes if they would just let her at the very least shop online. She wasn't useless at technology, it had been useful to keep up on and so she had made sure to learn whenever something new came around. Yen had nearly taken a bite out of her guard earlier after he'd made a comment about there not being any rodents on the menu, but had been reminded she would be muzzled if she did and that had been enough to prevent her from going further than showing off her fangs. Brushing herself off, she had told him her face was too pretty to be marred by a muzzle before they had finally made their way to the canteen. While she was getting her food, her guard reminded her for the umpteenth time that biting anyone or petrifying anyone would result in her being locked back up in her room until she would speak to a therapist. She could eat, talk to people, and not shift, that was all she was allowed to do right now. This sucked. Might be worth the inevitable electrocution and tranquilizer to not listen to that jackass, but she was hungry so food came first. Settling down with her tray of food, Yen made sure she was sitting straight, but comfortable, and started on her breakfast. It tasted about as bland as whatever leftovers they seemed to bring her when she wasn't allowed out of her room for meals, but at least the juice was better than water. Yen might look like she was just eating her food, but in reality, she was carefully studying the room while she did so. Taking in the people in there, trying to find weak points among the guards to find just the right guards to paralyze to get her hands on one of their bands so she could go outside. If she could identify the weakest link, she could also figure out just which guard would serve her best to temporarily put out of commission. A few minutes was better than nothing.

Much like the time he had met the polecat kid, Kieran headed to the secure facility's canteen to grab a bite to eat. However, it was breakfast this time. Naturally, he found a dish which involved offal. Today, the Dullahan had picked out some black pudding, which was actually a type of blood sausage, and sat at a nearby table to eat it. Fortunately, Kieran was not so high-risk that he had to be escorted everywhere, although he was still monitored by the electronic tag on his ankle.
He could not say the same for the girl being watched like a hawk, however. The Unseelie Fae didn't envy her. Kieran hated people staring at him, which was why he preferred the secure facility's canteen. He glanced around the room briefly as he ate, but was not bothered by the other people around. The Irishman was quite content for the time being.

| | The food didn’t taste any less bland the longer she kept at it. If anything it seemed to lose flavor as she kept eating. How the mighty had fallen... from eating fruits during the day and delicious Italian food at night to just tasteless crap. Though if she had to eat shitty food, she supposed tasteless was better than it tasting like shit. Since she couldn’t just eat this in a hurry and go outside, it seemed better to take the time she needed and to keep subtly checking out the room.
Putting her fork down for a moment, Yen sipped her juice, wondering just what they were going to try to make her do today. While she wasn’t in the business of doing things just because she was bored, this was a new level of boredom.
Shrugging slightly, she returned to eating her bland eggs. Would some salt really have killed the cook?

Kieran continued to enjoy his black pudding. Although he was in no hurry to leave the canteen, he loved food like this that had offal. It wasn't souls, but it was the next best thing. The Dullahan paused in his munching to drink some orange juice. He also glanced at the strange girl.
Apparently, she was less than thrilled with her food. Perhaps, much like Kieran himself, she was used to eating things that were not found on the average breakfast menu. Whatever the reason, the Unseelie Fae was somewhat intrigued. He hadn't really met anyone who was a fussy eater.

| | Yen was used to two kinds of diets. Fancy restaurants and expensive wines, often on someone else’s dime, or raw meat and whatever else she could be bothered scavenging for when she was enjoying some mountain air in the summer time. That was food she would only eat in gorgon form, however, fresh berries sounded pretty delicious right about now. The food she’d spotted when she was getting her meal had seemed entirely too sweet, too greasy or too bland, out of which bland was a better options. She was wondering if they would consider at least bringing in more exciting fruits than the apple slices she’d seen earlier. No, that didn’t entice her at all. Hell, she’d pay whoever for something, anything, with even the slightest resemblance to real fruit.
Deciding she was done with her food for the morning, Yen decided to leave a little something for the kitchen staff. Bringing her thumb to her mouth, she shifted her fangs out just long enough to prick her finger before she squeezed a few drops of blood onto her plate and smeared a little on her glass just in case. Sure, she figured they would probably be wearing gloves, but if she was lucky, someone would come in contact with her blood and accidentally get a little of it in their system. Not enough to be dangerous, but enough to make them have a really bad day. Served them right for not having a proper breakfast buffet with appropriate options to eat. With the guard’s eyes already on her most of the time, she was completely unaware of any residents watching her. They hadn’t really factored into her scheming to get outside just yet anyway.

Despite the canteen not having souls available, Kieran was quite satisfied with the food. Eating gross things that not many people liked was one of his favourite things to do in the academy. Being a Fae, the Dullahan had an unusual appetite. Of course, that was when Kieran decided to eat. Unlike a human, he didn't eat that often.
Having finished his breakfast, the Unseelie Fae got up to return his dishes to the kitchen staff. That was when Kieran noticed the blood. Although he wasn't too concerned, he was intrigued as there wasn't much for someone to cut themselves on here.

| | Eating was one of the few pleasures Yen still found in life. When the food was good that is. This definitely hadn’t been a pleasure at all. Oh well, she would have to find some other way to entertain herself for the day and try to find some way of finding a little pleasure in her life. This place seemed interested in making her miserable more than anything, though, so she wasn’t exactly hopeful.
Taking her now stained dishes, Yen moved towards where she was supposed to dispose of them. When someone got in her way, she smirked slightly as the kid (granted she looked like an adult, but she’d been acting like a child) turned to look at her. “You’re cutting in line,” she said simply, locking eyes with her and using her abilities to paralyze the woman. It would pass, she wasn’t in her other form so it wasn’t going to do any damage, just allowed her to walk past the woman without a care in the world.
Putting her dishes away, Yen stretched slightly, as if preparing for whatever the guards might think of as retaliation. | |

Today's breakfast had been quite enjoyable for Kieran. He had no problem with the food here. That was the only redeeming aspect about this place. The Dullahan still longed for freedom. Although not as high-risk as other residents in the secure facility, Kieran still had considerable restrictions placed upon him.
As he went to put his dishes away, he heard someone being admonished for cutting in line. The Unseelie Fae turned to see the Medusa-esque girl freeze some unfortunate woman in place. Kieran couldn't help but let out a low whistle in awe. He hadn't really mingled with other residents and hadn't seen any interesting abilities up until now.

| | Honestly, if she got her choice of foods, Yen would happily just stay in her room for the next few months without complaint. Of course, she’d need a laptop, wifi and proper heating. And a stack of books. She’d be able to work, sleep and read, freedoms weren’t overly important if life could be somewhat normal. Hell, if she had things to keep her occupied, it would be just like her childhood, just less caverns to explore. She figured her upbringing was why she’d always loved having some kind of work to keep herself busy. Unless she was sprawled out on a sunny day, she didn’t really know how to relax anyway.
Yen merely shrugged at the low whistle. “You should see my garden back home,” she said simply. “Unlike them, she’ll be back to her cheating self soon enough.” It was definitely less trouble for her to not actually petrify people here. Even if her favorite creation back home was a shifter she’d petrified mid-shift. Anyone who saw it seemed confused, unless they were aware of the supernatural, but since she was pretending she was the artist (which was at least somewhat true) she would just say she was exploring her imagination. Trying to capture someone’s inner beast breaking through or some bullshit like that.
It was probably for the best that security hadn’t approached her after her trick on the girl, because she would’ve been likely to just shift and bite them. “Guessing you’re on a daylight schedule to avoid being on the menu?” she asked. Something about her scent just made her think that he was fae, which also made sense why he’d be eating with the day-timers.

Kieran raised an eyebrow at the mention of the statue garden. "It sounds kinda creepy," he remarked with a dark chuckle. "I dunno if she was cheating, people who cut in are usually ignorant or just rude." The Dullahan had come across rude mortals from time to time. They were the ones who liked to spy on him.
Kieran wasn't sure what kind of creature this girl was, but she was intriguing. "I eat when I feel like it, which isn't that often." He replied with a shrug. Of course, the Unseelie Fae was referring to human food.

| | If she was being honest, Yen kind of missed her garden right about now. All those satisfying statues around reminding her that she was awesome. “They look like marble when done correctly. Donated a few to collectors way back when, it’s lucrative,” she said, shrugging slightly. She didn’t find it creepy at all. Actually, she liked to think her statues were less creepy than the ones actually chiseled by hand, simply because they were more real.
“Cut in line one day, steal something the next, before you know it, you’re the kind of person that deserves eternity as a statue. It’s a slippery slope.” To be honest, she had added people to her collection simply for looking at her funny at a party, so she didn’t really have a threshold for what sort of behavior earned someone a spot in her garden.
So he didn’t feel like eating that often, wasn’t he lucky. She assumed that meant he sustained himself by other means, and merely nodded at his statement. Everyone had to eat something, even if that something wasn’t human food. Some creatures just ate feelings after all.
Since she was done putting away her dishes, Yen was moving toward the door. There really was no reason for her to linger in the canteen, but maybe she could go outside. “You got a way out of here that doesn’t include going through the guards?” she asked the stranger, curious about what exactly he could do.

Kieran wasn't sure the fact that the living statues looked like marble made the girl's garden any less creepy. To him, it sounded like something from a TV show involving cautionary tales. "That still makes it sound like something from Tales from the Crypt. They probably weren't aware they were adding a frozen bum to their collection," he replied with a snort. More than likely, these collectors were naive humans.
"Or someone who ends up on the "Must Die" list. Although, folks that get on my bad side are more likely to lose an eye or two first." The Dullahan was more likely to flick someone's eyes out than mark them for death with a bucket of blood. Kieran glanced at the guards before looking at the girl again. "None that I know of. I can go some places without guards, but they still keep tabs on me," he stated, holding up the leg with the glamoured electronic tag.

| | Yen’s garden was precious to her. It was a place she really only invited people if she needed money and knew someone would enjoy one of her creations, or to add to her collection. It was just a nice place for her to relax and enjoy being surrounded by nature and silence. And if she decided she wanted company, it was easy enough to distill the appropriate remedy to make one of her statues live again.
“You’d be surprised, lot of museum statues are technically alive. Though the ones missing bits and pieces from aging or other damage would probably prefer staying that way to coming back alive without limbs.” If she really wanted to punish someone, she would petrify them and break off an arm or something, or bite them prior to petrifying them. Usually, she didn’t really damage her creations on purpose though.
“Meh, the must die list just get a shot of venom,” she said, shrugging slightly. “Agonizingly painful, slow and deadly.” Sure, she could technically save someone from her bite, but that was a lot more work than she cared to put in when she’d gone as far as to bite someone in the first place. Might not be deadly to other snakes, but it had worked on most of the creatures she had tried it on to date. Though with vampires she preferred just feeding them her blood so they’d get sick.
“Sucks,” she commented rather than saying anything else on the subject. Clearly, she’d have to go through a guard to get her hands on a the right kinda band.

"That explains why a lot of museum statues look creepy. Yeah, having missing body bits isn't that fun." Although Kieran's head wasn't missing, it could easily come off. It was a slight drawback to being a Dullahan.
"I don't have venom, so the Must Die list is what I have to work with," he replied casually. "It's not that quick either, as whoever I put on there has twenty-fours to live." The Unseelie Fae shrugged at her disappointment. "Them's the breaks," Kieran remarked.

| | To Yen, the museum statues that were actual people had always been her favorites. They were just so much more realistic than something someone had chiseled. It also gave her hope that there were others of her kind around aside from the one she’d traded places with. They weren’t all hers after all and some were newer than she’d been made so she held out hope that someday she might get to meet someone born like this. She wanted to compare notes, find a family of sorts that she would feel comfortable around. Maybe her own kind would provide that for her. Not that she was holding out hope she’d get that, it was just something she liked to think about from time to time on a flight of fancy more than anything else.
“Sounds like you have some insights on that,” she commented. She figured he would’ve said something along the lines of it not sounding fun if he didn’t. Seemed a bit odd otherwise. “All I know is, losing a snake is a pain in the ass, but sooner or later a new one pops up.” While it hurt if someone cut off a snake, it would regrow eventually. She figured it was like when someone pulled regular hair out by the root, that too grew back eventually.
“And at the end of that time?” She asked, curious what happened when the twenty-four hours were up. Would he kill them himself or would they just drop dead from something mysterious? It was hard not to be curious really. She had spent most of her time with humans after all. It sucked that he had no way outside without going through a guard, guess that meant she’d have to bite someone to get dragged to the medical center and have a chance to get her hands on the right kind of band… “This place sucks.”
