Chez was a little upset, he'd been told he was going for some exercise and so he believed he was being taken to the lake again to swim but the water he'd been tipped into had been completely different from anything he'd experienced before. And what was that taste? It was sharp and slightly sickening at first and had made his eyes sting a little. But now he was used to it.. The floors and the walls of the area were shiny and hard and there were little holes in the walls that spat out water whilst bigger holes drained excess water away at the surface level. The guards who had taken him here had stayed for all of to minutes before being satisfied that he wasn't going to spontaneously die in these waters.. It was on the verge of a storm outside, so understandably they couldn't risk getting his tank stuck on the lawns because then they'd have more work on their hands or have to disturb one of the trusted hydromancers to take him back to his 'room' (aka tank) in a bubble of liquid.
The pool was a happy little compromise.
Although it was very bright and he found himself unable to get away from the light no matter if he were in the shallower end or down deeper, so in the end he just lazily floated in the water with his eyes closed, his tail lazily moving in the water which had him circling the edges of the pool slowly. They'd come back for him eventually, but for now he was enjoying himself just being somewhere different from usual.

Pool time wasn't exactly the same as getting to play outside, but it was definitely a close second for the marid. While she might not be as reliant upon water as some of the other species around here, it was a big part of who she was and so she enjoyed spending time in her element. Even if she would be even happier just rolling around in snow. As it was, however, part of the conditions for getting to spend time in the pool was to not freeze it again. At least not all of it. So snow was not an option.
Mel had gotten a nice and purple swim suit and had gone through the motions of showering like she was told before she could enter the pool itself. She was told to behave herself because she wasn't alone before they had gone to see the water and when she spotted the creature in there she couldn't help but squeal slightly. "He's so cute!" she exclaimed. "Can I play with him if I promise not to break him or anything else? Pretty pretty please?"
Now, to be fair, Mel would've jumped in the pool to play with water with this kid regardless of whether her guard gave her permission or not, but she was pleased she didn't have to hurt the guard to get her way as she got a curt nod in response.
Diving into the pool, Mel was giddy as she approached this stranger. She'd never seen anything like him before and she wanted to know more.

Chez had sank to the bottom of the pool, his tail still slowly moving him over the tiled floor whilst equine front legs folded over his belly, they could at least have given him a ball to play with, or stuck on some music or something to occupy his time because right now he was on the verge of sleep, with his eyes closed and the warm water slowly swilling around him thanks to the various pumps and pipes that were hooked up to this place Chez was very much relaxed. Which probably wasn't a very wise way for him to be considering where he was, but the young boy wasn't aware of the bad people in this world, he's not really even aware that anybody could possibly want to harm anybody else. Let alone him, so he wasn't alert in the slightest.
However, it's difficult to miss somebody jumping into a body of water, even if they dived so neatly like Mel did and so he opened his eyes, squinting against the brightness for a moment as he sought out the source of the noise and when he spotted her he grinned at her from his upside down position and righted himself with a small flick of his tail that also propelled him forward a few feet to meet her in the water. He obviously wasn't aggressive in the slightest, but somebody jumpier may take his sudden excited movement of tightly circling around her something potentially worrisome.
"You have legs!" He doesn't know if she can hear him beneath the water, his old owner had had equipment to pick up on his sound waves and project them into the air so he could communicate with the very human man, but this lady was underwater too, surely she'd hear him and understand. His lightly webbed fingers reached out to brush her hair away from her neck quickly and he looked surprised and delighted to find smooth skin, "and no gills, how do you breathe? Or are you breathing? Are you drowning? Can you swim? Oh no! Did you fall? Blink twice if you want air and I'll help!" Even though she could most likely touch the bottom of the pool right now with her tiptoes he was happy to play superhero. The kid was rabbling on like somebody who hadn't spoken to somebody in a long time.
Which he hadn't done.. Not since Ida and it sucks to be lonely. But he doesn't get sad, he just seems to reserve his chatty energies for when somebody does come along.

Mel could honestly say she had never met anyone like this kid again. She hadn’t spent a whole lot of her life underneath the water, except for when she needed to cool off, so she hadn’t exactly explored the sea or gotten too familiar with the creatures that called it home. So when the kid came swimming towards her, she grinned slightly. Yes! He was eager to learn more too! This was perfect. She was like a little kid herself right now, so when he was circling around her, she turned her head to watch him.
While she could hear him just fine, or be one with the water just fine, Mel couldn’t exactly speak underwater like he clearly could. Not without a little help anyway. She was about to answer his first statement when he started assaulting her with question. Moving water away from her face, she smiled at him. “Don’t need gills,” she said, grinning at him. “And probably can’t drown either. Wanna see a magic trick?” She didn’t wait for him to answer though.
Mel turned her form into water. She still kept herself together in a humanoid shape, knowing that while she could hide in the pool if she really wanted to, she would have to disperse her being more than usual because the water was different from what she was. After a few moments, she pulled herself back into her solidly human body. Pushing a little water away from her face again so she could speak, she smiled at him. “I’m water in human form. Sort of. You on the other hand, you’re mythical, that’s awesome!” She couldn’t help but be giddy that she not only got to see a being like him, but that he seemed so friendly. “I’m Melinda, but my friends call me Mel.”
