It had been a long, long night.
There had been sightings of a few shifters sniffing around the borders of Manson, just a couple of rogue wolves from what had been said and so, obviously, his own wolf had wanted to check it out, he didn't like the idea of strangers on the edge of his territory. Zev'd had absolutely no inclination to confront anybody, or to fight anybody off, he didn't even really think he'd find any packless wolves either. The border of Manson was there for a reason, it kept a lot of people out and made it a little obvious to most sane people that it was private land. Also, any shifter with a nose would smell the variety of different species that roamed in the woods, it wasn't available land for even another small pack to lay claim too and he'd hope that would be obvious.
These 'strays' may not even be looking for land, perhaps they were outcasts looking for a pack, in which case that was something that could be discussed. However, there was no point in mulling over options until he knew for certain what was going on.
So that evening he'd decided to shift outside the main gate of Manson and go for a stroll on his own. It wasn't arrogance that made him believe that he'd be fine on his own, his wolf was confident and secure in it's place in the hierarchy of the pack, there wasn't much he couldn't handle and, he truly didn't think there'd be much of an issue here. Otherwise he wouldn't have gone alone, certainly he would have told Fabian at least about it. He'd just wanted to check it out. Wolf to wolf, see what was happening. The fading sunlight wasn't a problem as he padded on all fours through the forest, occassionally stopping to sniff around an area that interested him or caught his attention. A human had been nearby the walls recently, but that wasn't surprising, humans were curious by nature and not a lot was known about Manson.
It wasn't what he was looking for though so he'd continue on through the dry undergrowth. He was all too used to moving silently through ground like this, but the leaves were beginning to fall from the trees now so it made it more difficult than usual. That also meant he could hear movements of others easier too. That was how he found him, the male wolf just sitting in a clearing around half a mile from Manson's gate, Zev slowed and crept closer, observing, not stalking. He'd noticed just a few moments too late the other wolf that came up from his blindspot and pounced on him. He hit the dirt, not because of the weight of the smaller wolf, but to avoid the hit and it worked. Unable to get a grip with jaws or front paws the wolf went careening ahead and rolled into the clearing with the other. It was almost comical and he would have laughed if the fallen wolf hadn't quickly and fluidly vaulted back to his feet and ran straight for him with what can only be a angry growl. This time though he had his friend right behind him.
Claws and teeth flashed, bodies collided and it wasn't long before the scent of blood rose on the air, but he was pretty damn sure it wasn't his own. Or perhaps it was and he just didn't feel it yet beneath the rush of adrenaline that surged through his body. Needless to say the logical, rational and reasonable man had taken a step back to let the wolf take complete control though when he got the chance he turned tail and ran, leading the wolves back towards Manson's main gate where guards monitored the area. These two, whoever they were, couldn't be allowed to just roam free and he was hoping that he wouldn't have to cause some real damage. Though he had noticed that the smaller wolf was limping and there was a significant tear in the larger of the two's ear. He wasn't sorry, if anything he'd angered them enough that they wanted a piece of him in return and they were on his tail (almost literally) as he dashed back on himself.
The gate loomed ahead and he howled, a shaken sound as running and howling were not supposed to go hand in hand but it alerted the guards soon enough and they'd done exactly what they were supposed to do. Also narrowly avoided tranquilising Zevren himself, but the younger guard had been corrected in his assumption before he'd pulled the trigger so the counsellor was still conscious..
And five minutes later he was back on two legs, dressed, a little bloodied and breathless but he felt good. Whoever the two were that were being restrained whilst still unconscious eren't a danger to anybody else. Including the oblivious humans in the nearby town. Zev remained knelt on the floor near the unconcious wolves and there he'd wait until the transport came to move them back to the academy and get them checked over so they could find out who they were. This was a good result, right? He was a little roughed up himself and a little scrufffed looking but he wasn't bothered, it'd just make the shower back home all the more enjoyable.
This hadn't been quite what he'd expected to happen.. But he couldn't really complain about the outcome.

Once darkness fell, Dutch had been allowed outside to fly. Not just the usual hiding in the woods or sticking close to the ground like she would during the day. She had been doing well recently, been having herself, not getting into too much trouble and not overreacted too much about her niece either. So a little altitude flight had been her reward for being good. Sure, she could always just ask Julius to go flying with her so she'd be properly 'supervised', but it felt nice to be able to and, allowed to, do it on her own. Sometimes a girl just needed to feel like she'd earned something for herself after all. Dutch had been quite happy to just use her abilities to blend with the darkness and properly stretch her wings by going fast, high, dropping down and doing acrobatics in the air. All over the grounds, of course. Compromises and all that. She had just evened out from a dive when she thought she heard the howling. It made her curious enough that she flew closer. She didn't land until she recognized one of the alphas and he was dressed again, landing a few feet away from where he was kneeling. Zevren was nice, kind of amusing, and he was great with Cora. Not just in the sense that he seemed to really put the girl at ease, but he seemed to have good ways of getting the girl to have some interest in learning how to defend herself. She was a little out of breath herself as she shifted her wings away, it had been far too long since she'd gotten to really use her wings the way she was used to, but it felt good to have gotten a chance to at least use them properly again. "Need a hand? Looks like you had more my kind of evening than what I usually picture you doing when you're not teaching shifters or talking about feelings." Honestly, Dutch didn't know what Zev liked to do when he wasn't working, but she somehow pictured it being less messy and less her kind of fun. But, if he needed an extra set of hands, she really had nothing better to do than offer to help out and she rather liked the man. She could've been saddled with someone way more dreadful for her flight classes and she was glad he seemed more the playful, laidback type than a lot of staff here.

A few minutes passed by and Zev's breath had evened out to it's natural rhythm, his heartbeat was still minorly levated but adrenaline takes a little longer to fade so he wasn't that surprised. The wolves were still unconcious and would be for a while, the tranquilisers used by the guards leave no space for error. So it was with the reassurance that they wouldn't wake that he approached them, cautiously sniffing the air near them for any particular clue as to where they came from. Unfortunately all he smelt was the familiar scents of the surrounding area, nothing telltale to say they'd been anywhere but the forest around Manson's grounds recently. Shame, but at least that meant they didn't have some base someplace else. The two just smelt like themselves and each other, so it was likely there was just the two of them. The wolf inside of him could understand the curiosity they must have felt after scenting the mixture of shifter's that roamed Manson's grounds. They were a mismatched pack here, but at least they had the group. He'd missed the company of other shifters when he'd been alone.
Luckily for him though he's never alone, he's lucky enough to have Fabian, somebody he loves. Admittedly he'd never meant to turn him how he had, but it had happened and honestly? He wouldn't change a single thing now, he couldn't think of anything better than walking into his home and finding the man to drape himself over, to welcome and settle down with. After he's been harrassed by Midnight of course, another thing he really doesn't mind in the slightest.
They'd have to wait for the two to wake up in the secure ward within the medical center before they can know anything for sure. If they will even talk.. Zevren's sure they will. They have too if they want anything to progress.
He smelt Dutch before she spoke, heard her breath and so when she spoke he didn't so much as flinch. He didn't think she would be along to cause any trouble, if anything she'd been nothing but helpful and cooperative since she'd been within Manson, something that went highly in her favour. Plus, she wasn't that bad of a person to talk too. At least she was honest. "Talking about feelings?" He repeated with a laugh, "how do you know that isn't what went down here? Some react a little violently and have to be sedated," he flashed her a grin and stood to his feet, "I could have touched a nerve." With the guards waiting nearby close to the gate that was obvious not what had happened though, they were too attentive and paying a little too much attention to every message that came over the radio. Needless to say Fabian would know what was going on by now, Zevren didn't want to worry him but at the same time he was kind of looking forward to being a little needlessly fussed over.
"There's nothing more to be done, I'm just waiting for somebody from the main building to pick these two up." The only reason he was still hanging around as because they were wolves, it seemed wrong to just walk away, "thank you, anyway.." He'd glanced at the two again but now looked back to Dutch and wandered on over as he brushed his hands off together, "what has you out tonight? Just a little fresh air?" That's what he was telling people he'd been doing.. Lies lies, but it was at least a little true.

Dutch was glad that she'd never had to be tranquilized around here, because she knew herself well enough to know that she'd be more of a pain in the ass when she came to again than she was after being electrocuted. Sure, she didn't appreciate the shocks either, but at least she knew how long she would be out of commission from a shock something that was never certain where drugs were involved. That depended entirely upon how strong the tranquilizers were after all. Before Cora had arrived, Dutch had done her best to stay out of trouble in order to get some freedoms back and be able to get out of here sooner rather than later because this place had sucked. Aside from Julius of course, he'd been a good reason to behave too and a good reason to stick around. Now she just had yet another reason to behave herself. Cora needed someone to teach her about her heritage and she'd need a place to stay for a while after she was no longer a danger. Sure, Dutch wasn't planning too far ahead, but her niece needing to be brought here had been just another push to be on her best behavior so she could get some more freedoms. “This,” she said, gesturing towards the wolves, “is usually how I talk about feelings,” she continued, chuckling slightly. “Figured you’d have a gentler touch.” Dutch didn’t particularly enjoy talking about feelings after all, Lyss was lucky he was so likeable. No, it was a lot easier to show people how she felt, whether that’d be by knocking them down or in Jules and Cora’s cases by being affectionate. It was just easier to show then to talk about it all. And she’d spent a lot of her recent sessions with Lyss talking about Cora and how that was all going. It had been the most pressing matter in her life after all, but now that that was going better maybe they could get back to working on her “issues” or whatever. “I mean, if it’s just a matter of getting them inside... I’ve got nothing better to do.” She really had nothing to do, it seemed unfair not to at least offer. “Finally got a chance to fly after dark, wasn’t going to pass that up. Daylight flying doesn’t really allow for the same wing-stretching, not without magical help anyway, and it was enough work to get something like that for Julius.” She didn’t want to cause too much trouble, nor did she really think she’d get to fly too high even with a magical charm, not without proper supervision. “Besides, was kind of made for night time flying anyway.” She could see well in the dark after all, and blend in with the night.

"Tranquilising overly defensive wolves?" He asked in response to that, "that doesn't sound particularly healthy." He was mocking her, the slight grin on his face made that obvious. He was not Dutch's counsellor, she was assigned to somebody else and he was supposed to be doing nothing more than supervising her flight classes to make sure she wasn't secretly raising a small army of flying assassins. So far she'd been pretty true to her word to everything she'd promised to do. But he was not really in a position to change anything in her life, not her room, not her priviledges and he certainly wasn't going to ask Fabian to do anything. He tries not to request anything from his husband when it comes to the residents within Manson, he wouldn't want him granting anything because it's him that's asked. He tries his best to keep work talk separate from everything else, though that's not really been tested much since they both became head of their own departments.
"I never did this to them," he might have roughed them up a little just to defend himself but he was hardly going to roll over and let some packless wolves try and subdue him, "the guards put them down, I just led the way." Which was true. Mostly. It's what he was going to tell Fabian if the man started worrying over him anyway. He'd most likely be a little more beat up himself if he actually fought the two into submission. Dutch may be one for justice and all, but he's not so certain whether she'd understand the dynamics of a pack. He didn't want to admit to anything he doesn't have too.. Plus, she's a resident, he doesn't really have to excuse himself for anything, not that he thinks she wants an excuse, but he's not always as gentle as he seems.
He chuckled and shook his head, "no need, they're coming to pick them up. Restraints, stretchers," or just a telekinetic to float them on inside. They might just send some of the stronger staff to throw them over their shoulders and take them inside that way, Zevren has no idea but it's been reported and somebody was going to be coming eventually so there was no need for either of them to take action, "the offer is appreciated but the higher ups might just suffer heart failure if they see you flying a limp wolf along the grounds. As amusing as that'd be there'd be repercussions." Probably on him, they'd want to know why he let Dutch do it. As reliable as she'd been for flight lessons she was very much still a high level resident. He couldn't just forget that.
"I've finished for the day, fancied a run and came across these two on the way home.." He seemed to be pretty much explaining the situation to her just so he could think of his next move now, he didn't really want to run anywhere now. He mostly wanted to flop someplace comfortable and warm. His car was still in the parking lot, so, that was the only option left to him now, "are you heading back up there?" He asked and gestured to the sky, "or back inside? In which case fancy keeping me company to the car?"

“I don’t usually carry a tranquilizer gun, especially not around here,” she replied, chuckling slightly. Dutch knew that if she happened to find one and didn’t immediately turn it in to the nearest staff member, she would get thrown in solitary and that wasn’t worth it. “Knocking heads together on the other hand usually does the trick anyway.” She knew he was teasing, but it seemed like a good thing to clarify anyway. Dutch knew that at the end of the day, Zev might have a final say in her case simply because he was the head of his department, but she didn’t have to try to be friendly with him. It just came naturally at this point because he was a pretty relaxed guy. As long as she didn’t start to train people to fight (not counting the ones already fighting and needing a sparring partner to avoid hurting someone) she figured she was doing alright. Besides, she wasn’t teaching her niece to fight, just how to get out of trouble and ways to calm her inner fury. “Honestly, I imagine it would’ve been a lot noisier if you’d fought them until they were out cold. Even if I hadn’t seen them get shot.” Night was when she was at her best after all, she just hadn’t felt like landing until she recognized the wolf. If it hadn’t been a familiar face, she probably would’ve just gone back to flying after a quick overview of the situation. She might not fully understand the inner workings of packs, but she knew enough to know it was an alpha’s place to discipline, not hers. And since the alpha in this case wasn’t negligent in his duties, it definitely wasn’t any of her business. Shifters and weres were usually easy that way thankfully. Unless there’d been a justified kill order out on one, like she imagined there would be on that wolf that ate women out in the outside world, she’d usually tracked down whoever “owned” the land or ruled a pack and let them deal with their own. “I think I’ve traumatized enough shifters by flying them places with just Cora anyway,” she admitted. “But if someone’s coming with stretchers and restraints that’s probably better than carrying someone across the grounds anyway.” She had never intended to fly them back, it’d be easier to handle someone coming to if they were carried normally. “You guys really are doing wonders with Cora though, she won’t shut up about you and David. And seems eager to try flying again even if her wings still need work.” Dutch might not always voice her gratitude towards people, but Zev and David really were great with her for different reasons. She was grateful there were people around who could help her learn to trust her instincts in animal form as well as provide a safe way to learn how to control her fire. Dutch shrugged slightly at the question. “I don’t really have plans either way, might as well keep you company,” she said, offering him a smile. She should be heading back inside soon anyway, so might as well start moving towards that goal.

Zev would get the final say in any decision made about Dutch, but at the same time he trusts the staff that work in the counselling department to know what they're doing. Reviewing their own notes was enough for him most of the time.. At least now that Connor has been taken off of the rota he could relax a little more, that man had spiralled down rather quickly and there was no room on the board for somebody like him. In fact, the horse shifter was now a resident.. Sad, really. He gave a wry smile when Dutch explained that she had no access to a tranquilser gun, he hadn't thought for a moment that she would do, but knocking together people's heads? Not ideal still. In fact that was probably more dangerous depending on who's head was being smacked against who's..
He couldn't resist the somewhat cockier smirk as she mentioned that it would have been noisier if he'd actually fought the wolves into submission. "I came across them outside of the walls of Manson, encroaching on our territory. They aren't my wolves and they need assessing." He didn't know where they came from and chasing them off would only have meant they return at a later date probably, perhaps with more wolves, who knows? There was no use in risking his own pack for the sake of his own wolf's satisfaction. He'd had to be clever, man and wolf working in unison. That smirk of his grew into a slight grin, "if they had been mine there wouldn't have been too much noise," he's confident and with good reason, "I'm bigger, experienced, these two are barely better than pups." Not sizewise, but something told him that they hadn't been born shifter's. Which meant they may have been bitten.. By who though, that was the question.
He'd seen her fly over the grounds with the girl before and he'd found the sight amusing more than anything else, he didn't think that she'd drop the girl. Unless it was into the lake and even then it wouldn't be from too great a height. Really the Fury had been nothing but harmless, but he wasn't in charge of the security that people undergo, that's Fabian's territory and he wouldn't dare intrude there. Sometimes his husband's clearer and unbiased way of looking at things are better suited for certain things, he was incredibly practical. Zev adores ever aspect of the man, still, just thinking of him makes him smile.
"She's a sweet girl," and Cora really was. There was no denying it, she wasn't a troublemaker like some of the kids that had been brought to Manson. She had sense. Plus, she'd become part of the pack so Zevren was a little defensive naturally of the girl. His nostrils flared a few moments later and he turned his head a little to look out over the lawns, here came the backup, those arriving to pick up the two wolves. Paperwork could wait until the morning to be filled out so there was absolutely no reason now why he had to wait around any longer. Fabian wasn't with them, so even less reason to stick around. He began to wonder whether or not his husband had already gone home.. But he wasn't going to wait around to ask the security heading their way, "let's head off then.." He didn't add the 'before they want to know every detail' to the end of that sentence, but the eagerness in which he began to wander off, looking back once just to make sure that Dutch was following him and didn't get caught up being questioned as to why she was there.
... He just wanted to get home before midnight.
"You have a lot more priviledges recently, is that down to Ulysses.. Or Fabian?"

Dutch wasn’t walking around knocking heads together for fun, or found a need to do it much in the first place. That wasn’t to say she hadn’t head butted people hard enough to knock them out once or twice, but they had been in need of a timeout. “Don’t worry, I don’t go around doing it for fun. Considering a quarter of the people in here fit the profile for my preferred targets, I’d say the fact that I haven’t attacked anyone is a sign of great self-control.” That doctor had had it coming, and the other skirmishes didn’t count as they’d be dead if she’d really wanted to hurt them. Except Aaron of course, but he’d technically attacked her, so that didn’t count either. It made perfect sense to her that he’d want to assess the wolves if they weren’t his. It was kind of stupid to go lurking around like that and not expect to be questioned. “Good to know you’ve got control over your own. Guess that means no more women are going to get eaten.” Oh, she’d never missed her weapons more than when she’d caught that misogynistic creep in action. She doubted anyone would’ve even missed him. “Pups need discipline to not turn out like complete assholes,” she commented. She might not know a whole lot about shifters, but she knew vampires pretty well. Young vampires needed discipline too or they’d be out of control. Loathe as she was to admit it, Dutch knew for a fact that Cora wouldn’t have been a sweet girl if she’d been raised by herself or her sister up until now. Her childhood would’ve been stolen just like theirs was and she probably would’ve killed someone by now. Dutch knew she had by the time she was Cora’s age. “Good thing she was raised by humans, otherwise we all would most likely have had a mini-fury on our hands. Always angry and never understanding why fighting the right people made it go away. My sister and I didn’t have a childhood, it took me decades to find the joy in something that wasn’t violent. At least she’s starting out knowing what joy is, so she’s way ahead of where I was at her age.” She was happy for her niece, it was probably the best thing that could’ve happened to her. If she ever had children, she probably would leave them with Evan to be raised so they’d have a proper childhood. Dutch nodded when he said to head off, not minding it. It seemed best to get going before people arrived. “A little of both I suspect. Your husband helped me get a room I’m more comfortable sleeping in as well as lowered my level, but Ulysses is why I get to fly. I suspect it helps with the privileges that I have Cora to look after, means I’m not likely to run off or get in unnecessary trouble if it’ll risk her safety.” Sure, there was also the fact that she wouldn’t get to see Julius at all if she was thrown in solitary, but her niece seemed like a better answer here. “Not saying I was trying to do either of those things before I brought her here, it’s just easier to trust that I won’t now that she’s here.” In many ways, it had turned out that having Cora around was a blessing in disguise. Dutch couldn’t help that her species was a violent one, but at least with the kid around she didn’t have to worry about anyone thinking she was violent for the sake of it. No, it always served a purpose.

The fact that there were still people who she claimed as 'preferred targets' was a mild problem but he wasn't going to counsel her.. She wasn't his patient and he does try not to cross into those boundaries if he can help it. He's up for a fight every now and then, happy to practice fighting skills, it's something he's grown up having to do anyway because of the packs he's lived in so that was no big deal. But that was different. Zevren's life is quite compartmentalised, the fitness trainer, the alpha, the husband and the counsellor. He loves each role, but it's important they don't overlap. He would point out that she isn't working here, that by 'punishing' anybody she'd be assuming the job role of the staff of Manson and that's overstepping the boundaries she's already been given by quite a lot. Thankfully though she already seems to understand that. Zevren respects her for that.
His expression darkened a little at the mention of that particular wolf, the one who had targeted women in particular. "He wasn't a wolf, he was a man and a monster who just so happened to be able to shift. The wolf was fed from his hatred and twisted beliefs, the beast didn't stand a chance at being remotely like what the rest of us are." Wolves don't kill just because they can, they don't have a specific prey set in mind, that was all Phobia's personal mindset. All the wolf did was give the human monster a body in which to kill more efficiently. His own wolf was in agreement with him entirely, there would have been absolutely no room for Peter to step so much as a claw out of line in the pack. Wolves like him are put down or shunned.
Plus the bastard had hurt Fabian a couple of times. It was a good thing Zevren's wolf had never faced him, he's not so sure even he could withstand the urge to put him in his place. Permanently. Nobody messes with his mate. Even though he's quite capable of defending himself..
"I'm only in charge of disciplining the wolves, the residents themselves.. Pups, usually, just need the guidance of a pack."
He wasn't explaining everything he has to do as an alpha, it's not exactly secret, but neither is it exactly human either. He doesn't think that Dutch wouldn't understand, but it was almost like talking about family secrets to somebody who wasn't really family. She wasn't a wolf so in some ways she could never understand fully. He'd let that subject drop anyway because she was talking about Cora. He liked the small girl, she was unique with her species crossover in Manson and had little control and yet she was a strong and determined individual. Zevren could appreciate that. She didn't seem to be a brat either which is also an incredible bonus considering some of the kids around here. To lose out on a childhood though.. You literally only get one. And for species as long lived as Dutch's that was incredibly brief compared to the rest of her life, "I'm sorry.. But you're able to enjoy life now. Despite being in here. The staff all know about your relationship with that doctor," he smirked a little as they walked, his tone teasing. Mostly he hasn't said anything because he prefers to keep the peace. And Dutch is hardly one of the worst resident to be having a relationship with a member of staff.
"People are always more willing to believe that somebody will change for a child more than anything else," he spoke nonchalantly as they walked. Children had the ability to do that, to enter somebody's life, throw everything up in the air, cause mental chaos and just make life complete in some cases. He wanted a kid. Has done for a little while now and has mentioned it a couple of times to Fabian, but they've had yet to have a proper, meaningful discussion about it all. He thinks his husband would be a fantastic daddy, "Cora's lucky she has you in her life, she seems unsure of herself still but we can all help her. She's attending all of her classes, right?"

If there was one thing she was painfully aware of, it was the fact that the staff would prefer if she didn’t think about returning to her old life at all after her stay at Manson. While she could easily promise not to return to her life as an assassin, Dutch knew there was no way to promise she’d be peaceful the rest of her existence. It went against her very being. A Fury wasn’t meant to just spend eternity on a beach somewhere sipping tropical drinks. They were built for fighting, they existed to serve Justice. Sometimes servitude of lady Justice also happened to coincide with getting revenge for someone, but that was beside the point. Her species had a purpose and no matter how much her niece didn’t want to hear it, it wasn’t to sit idly by while people were wronged. That didn’t mean she couldn’t control herself while she was here, the staff had seemed more than accommodating when it came to sparring with her to keep her occupied. She just needed them to understand that some things were just part of what she was, but she had a feeling they’d see that for themselves if Cora was still here when she became a teenager. “See, now, I honestly don’t understand why all you younglings seem to think that killing monsters like that is a bad thing. Where I come from, people like that usually take a long fall that end in an abrupt landing, unless a pack tears them apart first.” The real monsters didn’t deserve a quick death. Let them freak out on the way down as they fell to their deaths and she would be really pleased. It had been really hard not to try to kill that particular misogynist. Thankfully, she had ways around here to take her mind off of the urge to just be what she was. “I just meant that pups are like children. If left to their own devices, they’re bound to get in trouble because they don’t know any better. Guidance of like-minded individuals and discipline when appropriate is needed.” She would be eternally grateful that Cora had had the right kind of guidance growing up, that she’d learned to behave appropriately and be kind. It was something that had taken her ages to learn and still struggled with at times. Had she been summoned under similar circumstances before she’d been brought to Manson herself, Dutch probably would’ve brought the girl to Evan so she’d still get to be a child surrounded by kindness. Dutch knew she was well treated here and she seemed to enjoy all her classes and getting to learn about what she was, so she wasn’t in a rush to get her away from here, however. Dutch nodded slightly at his apology, though she was chuckling slightly by the time Julius was brought up. “What can I say, I don’t like losing a fight, but I like having a partner I will lose to. Everyone needs somewhere safe to let their guard down.” Dutch would never let Julius fight her battles for her, but it was also a relief knowing her enemies couldn’t hurt him easily. She should probably talk to Fabian about getting more time to spend with Julius, it really did relax her a lot more than anything they tried on the grounds. It was hard not to smile when talking about him. “I know you’re probably gonna say the same thing as Ulysses, that I need to be able to find some peace on my own, but spending time with people I truly care about is the only way I don’t feel a need to hurt someone deserving of it. It’s like for however long said company lasts, lady justice gives me a breather.” In all likelihood, it had more to do with how her family procreated and needed a certain amount of time away from the constant battle to even get pregnant, but she wasn’t going to tell Zev that. It seemed like a little too much information. And it wasn’t like she wanted kids of her own anytime soon, but it just made sense to her that for her kind to survive, they needed to find peace if they were ever to lay down their arms for a given period of time. “People should also just accept that some species exist for reasons society might frown upon. Furies serve justice, and more often than most people think, vengeance can be just, nymphs serve nature, which sometimes means burning down a blighted forest to make room for a new and healthy one, ghouls probably originated from a need to clear battlefields. We can’t all be shifters or vampires that can, in most cases, fit into society and its demands.” She wasn’t judging Zev for being a shifter, on the contrary she found herself jealous at times. Life would’ve been a lot easier she imagined if she hadn’t been drawn to correct certain things. “That said, it’s nice to have something to focus on to stay busy. She is an endless well of questions when she gets started. And she is a good teacher when it comes to other things.” While Dutch knew there were others here that could take on teaching Cora history and things like that, if they hadn’t lived it, Dutch wasn’t having it. She was teaching Cora what she knew about history from living through it, and she knew there were others were that were older than her and could tell her about that, Julius included. She wasn’t looking for anyone to tell their life story, just more a case of what life was like in general. “All her classes, and we’re working on languages on the side. If she chooses to embrace either of her natures, she will be traveling a lot so it’ll be useful.”
Stretching her hands above her head as she walked, Dutch smiled to herself. “You and Fabian, you’re the kind of people she grew up with. Nice, friendly, guidelines to follow, patient… Take it from someone who didn’t have any of that, if you two ever decide to have a child, they’ll be lucky to have you.” Sure, it was probably overstepping a little, but she felt like it sort of was on topic anyway.

All you younglings.. He had to grin at that, laughing as he rubbed somewhat embarrassedly at the back of his neck, it's so very easy to forget the age of some of the people here. Especially when you feel you look a little older than some who are in fact hundreds of years old. "Can I tell you a secret?" He asked, knowing full well that he was going to continue to talk regardless of her answer, Dutch he thinks isn't somebody who would retell what he says without good reason, and even then he never says anything that he doesn't mean so he has no reason to hold back, "outside of a place like this, in a Pack out there, he wouldn't have survived very long. We are part animals, yes, but animals aren't ruthless and murderous, those are human behaviours. There's no room for that in a functioning Pack. He'd have been beaten and reprimanded time and time again until being put down is literally the only option left. Here, in Manson, we want to help rehabilitate." Even though that is often undoable. But then the least they can do is lock those individuals up to keep the rest of the world safe.
At least, that was the idea. He still had no clue as to how Peter used to get free from the secure facility whenever he felt like it.. He could not completely agree with Dutch's thought process of dealing with things, it was too abrupt. Chances should be allowed. To a point.
He agreed with her when it came to the whole kids and pups being alike thing. Youngsters of any species would make mistakes without proper guidance, another reason why Manson exists as a school as well as a lock up for the more dangerous individuals. No kid is beyond redemption. His silence and slight nod was the only response he had to give to that, she wasn't wrong, he'd understood what she'd meant when she'd first spoke about it too so there was nothing more to say there really.
She liked the dragon because she knew she wouldn't beat him in a fight? That seemed an odd requirement for a relationship, but then there are all types within this world and he's more than aware of that. He himself wouldn't care who would win between himself and Fabian if it ever came to a fight, not that he thought it ever would do. He loves the man just as much as his wolf does, the two of them together adore Fabian in ways he can barely describe half of the time. The world just seems to make more sense and become a clearer and happier place when he's around. He'll forever he grateful for the first time he'd managed to invite the guard out for a coffee.. His sly plans to try and make a date had been seen through almost embarrassingly quickly. But no regrets. Never any regrets. He hummed quietly, "I don't think I agree with Ulysses there, if you can find peace with somebody else then that's just as healthy. As long as you don't put all of your eggs in one basket." Aka, don't lean entirely on the man. Zevren doesn't exacty know much about their relationship, in fact this is his first conversation with Dutch about it, "sometimes you just need to be happy and relaxed in any way you can just so you can remember what that feeling actually feels like."
As for fitting in with society, "all we can hope is that we can help everybody live in the world without exposing themselves or our world to the humans unnecessarily. We can't get rid of the myths and legends that they have of us, they'll never disappear.. But I can understand what you're trying to say, but you were always quick to react with violence when you first came here. You fought against simple rules. Now, not so much. But unfortunately the oldies in charge tend to hold a grudge." He's not counting either himself or Fabian in that, both of them have only recently been promoted to their jobs. He smiled at Dutch going on to say more about Cora being a great distraction, "I always think kids bring out the best in us, teach us things we've forgotten during growing up ourselves. She's certainly energetic, that much is pretty clear."
He blinked, but then chuckled a little, "I like to think so too, so thank you." He'd love to expand his family, to have a little miniature person running around. Whether or not they were biologically either his or Fabian's or whether they decide to adopt, it had been mentioned recently between them. But it was a little too personal for him to dip into talking about with her. They weren't close enough friends yet, ".. What if Cora decides that she wants to follow a path closer to her Hellhound roots rather than the Fury?" Would she even have a choice in the long run?
He honestly doesn't have a clue.

It might be weird to call a grown man a youngling, but compared to her he really was just a child. But then again, he’d never really get to be her age, so maybe she shouldn’t judge too harshly. Besides, he was sensible, so she wasn’t saying he was acting like a child. He seemed to understand that though as he didn’t seem to take too much offense. She nodded at his question. “I have always tried to leave shifter matters up to local packs, less likely to blow back on me than handling it myself. But sometimes, there’s just a lone shifter using their abilities to be a monster and not a local alpha to make aware of the situation. If I expect people to respect the fact that I right wrongs, seems like the least I can do is respect your kind’s culture enough to try to let you handle things yourselves first.” Of course, that didn’t always work out, but when it did she had always felt like her job was done, even if she hadn’t been around to do it herself. “I do give second chances, but not third,” she said with a shrug. “Not everyone can be fixed or can change.” It was simply fact, regardless of Manson’s policy. Maybe it was a little odd that part of the reason why she liked Julius was that she couldn’t beat him in a fight. The truth was, the fact that she couldn’t beat him also meant that most others couldn’t either. Sure, it was a bit prideful of her, but she’d survived this long. So it was safe to let down her guard and just relax around him because she was safe. “Considering I’m more used to relationships of convenience, it’s nice to have somewhere to just feel safe and happy,” she said, smiling slightly at the thought. Yeah, she had a hard time not smiling when she was talking about Julius because he really had become the best part about being sent here. It was also nice to have someone agree that she wasn’t acting against her best interest. “How would you react if someone drugged you, dropped you somewhere and told the people holding your prisoner all sorts of things?” she replied, shrugging slightly. “Followed by being placed in a room impossible to sleep in. I reckon the higher ups wouldn’t have been playing nice at first either,” she said. She’d been angry when she first got here, trying really hard to find the right people to punish for her situation. She’d never harmed someone who didn’t deserve it. Hopefully the fact that she hadn’t actually started any fights herself since she got here showed that she had restraint at least. “I’ve lived long enough to know actions have consequences, but I can’t help but imagine things might’ve gone a little smoother if I’d actually been consulted about my stay here once I was dropped off, rather than just been told to follow a set of rules. I don’t do well with underground spaces, or being metaphorically chained to the ground. Like I told your husband, being able to fly is as big a part of me as your wolves are of you.” Dutch knew she hadn’t been a model resident when she’d arrived, but to her, being placed somewhere she couldn’t sleep and not being able to fly was akin to mistreatment and she’d never take that lying down. “She’s just like a puppy when she gets started,” she said, chuckling slightly. “And a lot like my sister when she was younger. I’ll admit, I got her in trouble more than once by throwing a stick when she was meant to learn how to fight.” Dutch had gotten her sister in trouble on multiple occasions, but then again there was centuries between them so it had kind of seemed fair too. There was only so much time left for Cora to figure out what she wanted to do with her life. While Dutch wasn’t trying to push her too hard, there were things she needed to learn and know before she came of age and she might be forced to make a choice. “If that’s what she chooses, she’ll have all the tools she needs to follow that path when the time comes,” she said. “All I can do is prepare her for both, and try to find a way to make sure she’ll never have to worry about being bound to someone’s service against her will. While I’d love for her to follow her inner fury, both come with downsides and I’d like to think she’s smart enough to choose what’s right for her when the time comes.” Dutch knew it ultimately wasn’t her choice to make, so she really was trying to prepare the girl for anything. Even if all she was really able to teach her right now was how to calm the fury down in a place like this through exercise and meditation. Sure, it wasn’t a perfect fix, but it did a good enough job that she managed to avoid beating the crap out of people who deserved it. “I’m going to have to teach her how to fight, when to walk away, and how to leave her emotions out of it either way. Whether she’s teaching a bully a lesson for someone else or she drags a soul to Hell, being emotional about it can get her killed.” That was really what scared her the most, that Cora had never learned how to push aside what she was feeling in the moment, because that was something she’d been taught from the time she was taught to fight.

Zevren would argue against her statement that not everybody can be fixed or change. Of course there were exceptions to that rule, like the Wendigo within the secure facility, he will forever need to consume human flesh, as do the ghouls. Vampires will always need to drink human blood and if there are no bloodbags available then they'd bite somebody. But could they be blamed for something that is in their very nature? Dutch may serve justice, but if a vampire claimed justice on a hunter that had killed their childe because that childe had injured a human.. Who's justice was ultimately more important? It didn't matter right now, of course, that seemed more of a conversation where a hot drink and snacks could be available. Maybe even when watching some fledgling flying student flap around on the lawns whilst they discussed it. It seemed he wouldn't have to tell her that to take matters into her own hands when there's a pack involved though, she was wise enough to already know that. "It's usually the wolf side that'd take offence.. I'd hate for somebody to encrouch on my pack, it belittles our authority, stirs up more troubles if other would be alpha's think we can't do our jobs properly," he flashed her a small grin, "if an outsider stepped in.. It's a bit of a slap in the face. Trespassing on the territory, so to speak."
So it was good that she'd leave most things for the pack themselves to sort out. As for rogue wolves in unclaimed territory, nobody cares what happens to them if they decide to overstep the rules and laws of their kind. These two that he'd help capture though.. They had done nothing other than scope the borders of his territory. He was curious about them.
"Some people can change. Not all, and some have commited crimes that there is no reasonable explanation too, or coming back from.." Peter had been one of them, he deserved death rather than rehabilitation, "but I think I can speak for us all when I say thank you for not taking matters regarding justice in your own hands around here. Fabian also appreciates it." He paused for a moment, a grin pulled at his lips simply because he was imagining his husband's face at hearing him say that, "probably."
He knew that smile on her face, recognised it from having caught sight of his own reflection when he thought of his husband. The fury was in love, Zev wasn't going to compare the love between him and his mate to what she was experiencing because that didn't matter. It was just nice to see her happy. But, he wasn't going to get into a deep conversation about relationships, it would be a little bit of give and take so he would end up giving some tidbits about his own relationship. Zev respects his own and Fabian's privacy a little too much to go telling somebody personal information. He considers Dutch a friend, of sorts, but there were limits to what he'd share. So he just smiled at her little talk of the why she'd chosen him of all people.. Personally he couldn't see a lighter side to the man who ran the medical center, but to each their own.
"I'd take a chunk out of their ass," he responded with a chuckle, there was no doubt about it really. But then he was as much a wild creature as she was a creature of the skies so he could imagine what she'd gone through. It was his job to see things from others perspectives, but it wasn't his job to ensure residents safety, that was up to security.. And Dutch did have the ability to be pretty damn destructive if she wanted to be. It takes time to know somebody properly, time to trust somebody, she didn't have their trust for a while simply because of what she was capable of. But, that was all behind them now. "Things have changed since you were first brought here.. I like to think the initiation into Manson is a little more smoother now." Basically since him and Fabian had taken over, before there was a lot of things that were going wrong but there were limits to what could be done.. Even now they were restricted.
He let her speak about Cora as they wandered, just making the odd sound, nod or uiet agreement when she spoke to let her know he was listening. He was usually always listening. He did bend over a couple of times to grab a few pinecones as they walked though and tucked them into the big pockets of the loose hoodie he wore. This big bad werewolf likes to make bird feeders from them.. Perhaps he'll make it a little project for the younger people of Manson so they can learn a little about local wildlife at the same time.. That was a task he was sure even Kiba would enjoy participating in.
"And if she chooses neither path? If there's one thing I know about children is that they tend to try and do the one thing that they can't.. There were a number of youngsters in my old pack who wanted to live among humans, to be like them. To be 'normal', what if she chooses that life for herself?" Of course it would be difficult, Cora had the blood of not one but two types of long lived species, she'd outlive anybody she grew close too in the human world. But sometimes thats a lesson that the individual needs to learn for themselves rather than being told, "as for being bound to somebody against her will.." That would be bloody awful but he was trying to lighten the mood a little rather than think about that possibly happening, "I'm sure her aunt would kick said demon's ass and force them to release her. That should be offputting enough without even involving the dragon."
"I don't know the scope of what your kind are capable of.. But, correct me if I'm wrong, I assume it's impossible to turn off that need for justice?" How did it even work? How did one call upon somebody like Dutch in the first place? It isn't as if there have been many furies within Manson before. Zevren is a little more knowledgable on shifter's, vampires and the various fae. But he's willing to learn..
He chuckled quietly, "if you manage to teach a teenager to control her emotions I'll officially appoint you as a member of staff. But, then you'll have all the preteens to deal with. God knows we have a lot of uncontrolled, self righteous, hormonal kids around."

There were a few scenarios in which Dutch never got involved. Wendigos, ghouls and other species that were biologically dependent upon consuming human flesh were at most approached to get rid of a human body. As long as they weren’t killing people just for sport or their own amusement. Same applied to vampires really, as long as they weren’t killing for sport or keeping human slaves in a basement somewhere just to feed on them. Other furies might follow different guidelines when it came to the undead, but Dutch had long since accepted that it was in their nature just as it was in hers to kill monsters. If she killed someone just for satisfying their hunger, she became the monster. “I had excellent tutors,” she said, chuckling slightly. “At least as far as minding my own business when it comes to certain matters.” Her mother and the demon she had trained with had both been utterly uninterested in matters that didn’t involve humans for some reason, they had been clear that vampires and shifters usually had their own justice systems. As long as they weren’t playing with humans they were better left alone. It was nice to hear her lessons hadn’t been too far off from what was best for everyone. “For most of my life, killing someone for their wrongdoings wasn’t my first choice. In some cases, beating someone up, scaring them straight or chopping off a hand was sufficient to change their ways and make things right at the same time. After a few centuries, you get a good feeling for who can be rehabilitated and who is a lost cause.” Once she’d realized she could get paid for dealing with the worst of the worst, mainly because she had made it clear that she would have to be able to decline any contract for any reason when she’d started, leaving people alive hadn’t really been an option. Sure, she’d taken on jobs where the contract was on an object too, more than once, and in those cases beatings sufficed. But she had vetted those targets before she’d killed them. She preferred being close to people when she killed them after all, not on a rooftop somewhere with a rifle. “Some of the residents are here because they didn’t have someone like me around and took care of their abusers themselves, others are violent because they’re broken, need help and don’t know how to communicate any other way. Hardly seems fair to add to their troubles.” As long as nobody hurt Cora or tried to hurt her, Dutch didn’t intend to start any trouble or release that inner beast. Besides, no matter what the residents had done in the outside world, as long as they weren’t doing it around Manson it wasn’t like it was likely to set off that need to fix things either. “I like your husband, he says it like it is. Makes it easier to listen to him and do as he says.” While she wasn’t really one to take orders from anyone, he was someone she would listen to. Not just because he could make her life miserable by locking her in the basement, but because he was a genuinely honest man. After she had been at Manson for a while and gotten a better feel for the place, Dutch could understand why they had treated her like they had when she first arrived. At least understand the restrictions, but she maintained that things would’ve gone a lot smoother for everyone if they had actually taken the time to figure out what exactly a fury was before locking one up underground. “Aside from not being too happy about having to stay on her own in a strange place, Cora seemed to settle right in. And I appreciate not having to wake the whole floor to get attention if she summons, so clearly things have gotten way better,” she agreed. “Before the restructuring, I’m not entirely sure I would’ve been allowed to wait patiently in the hallway for someone to come get me.” It really was much easier on everyone with the new arrangement as she didn’t have to risk causing a riot if Cora really needed her and she’d be able to get into the youth wing without having to incapacitate someone or steal a staff bracelet. Dutch chuckled slightly at the thought of Cora choosing to live a human life. She seemed too excited about all the things she was learning right now for her to think that, but still... “If she chooses to try for a more human lifestyle, I have a friend she can stay with for a while that’ll help with that part of it. He might be a vampire, but since he lives in Vegas that doesn’t stop him from living a relatively normal life. She’ll need an ID, money, paperwork if she wants to go to fancy schools, he can help with all that. If she chooses that path, hopefully she’ll have more luck than my sister and I did.” Lea obviously had to have tried getting out for a while for Cora to exist, and Dutch had desperately tried to live a peaceful life more than once in her many years. Maybe now she could at least find some sort of balance. While she was determined to help Cora learn how to control both species within her, it would ultimately be her choice who she wanted to be. All she could really do was prepare her for the things she couldn’t ignore. “It would be a sad day for anyone who tries. I’m sure that’s the one thing my sister and I would agree on completely.” Dutch knew for sure that Lea wouldn’t want her daughter to end up like herself, she hadn’t exactly seemed too happy when they’d last spoken. Probably would help that they did have a dragon on their size too because she couldn’t imagine a world in which Julius would let Cora be someone’s pet. “Impossible to turn off, but possible to redirect or tune down at least with the right training. There’s a reason I jump on every opportunity to spar with a willing guard. I’m sure if someone set up a thoroughly exhausting obstacle course around the grounds it would have the same effect of focusing on something else. I reckon Cora has maybe a couple of more years before she’ll have to deal with that, so it really is about high time to get to work.” Considering she had apparently lost control over her firepower because she’d lost her temper, it really was time to get to work on how to keep her calm. Beyond purely working on calming exercises. Dutch snorted slightly at the idea of having to deal with all the preteens around this place. “Didn’t say she needed to always be in control, just that she needs to control herself in a fight. Especially given her gift with fire.”

Each race seems to have their own justice system when it comes to monitoring their species, for the wolves there's the Alpha.. Zevren isn't sure if there is a main pack around anymore, there certainly wasn't any specific police for the shifters that he's aware of. Not that it particularly matters anyway, Manson is a law unto itself anyway really, the guards are in control, something that his wolf had been a little bit annoyed about at first, the whole fact that he wouldn't have a final say with what happened to the pack, but since Fabian had taken over as head of security the animal had calmed immensely, he could trust his mate with everything and anything. Within reason of course..
He grinned, somewhat surprised by the woman's explanation of the people within this place. Not everything was simply black and white, there were so many grey areas especially when it came to each individual and he was glad that she saw that. If she hadn't then there would be some serious conversations that'd have to happen, not from him, he'd have to pull Ulysses into his office and tell him what he'd learnt. However, this woman seemed to have her head screwed on moreso than even most of the staff. It was quite refreshing in fact, "a few centuries is all it takes?" He asked jokingly, he doubted he'd ever live that long but he has no desire too either, "this place holds a lot of different people, a lot of different history's .. Those with the problems you mention will be here a long, long time." Nobody gets out unless they're safe to the humans out there.
That's what this place always comes down too, keeping the humans safe from them and them safe from the humans. There's billions of them and even though they have no special abilities or magic to their name they have the numbers and the weaponary and ingenuity to destroy most supernatural's if they discovered them and deemed them a threat. Best to keep those who can't control themselves or see where they're going wrong with their actions behind the perimeter walls, let the supernatural world become evident to the humans in time. Personally, if Zev had any say in it he'd say the Fae should reveal themselves first, they're literally part of nature. The nice Fae that is, keep those who steal people under wraps. And those like Zack.. Just thinking of that dark haired male made him lightly touch the spot in which he'd been stabbed by the guy.. Not a good time.
He smiled and nodded in acknowledgment at her mention of his husband. Even now that made him feel pretty proud. His husband. There'd been a point in his life where he never thought he'd settle down, he'd have liked too, but he'd enjoy being the flirty, unattached individual he'd always been. But that had been before he'd met Fabian, now he wouldn't imagine life without him. He'll readily admit he's a fool in love, and he still feels that surge of pride when he hears the man being complimented.
"It seems like you have it all figured out," he wasn't taking the piss there either, she really did sound like she had most possible outcomes prepared for. So no matter what happened in the near future of the distant future then Cora would be happily cared for, "you're a good aunt." He would have said that she'd be a good mother too, but that could be a sensitive subject for some people and he would have to accidentally offend her or something.. He also didn't want to get onto the topic because he's not so certain that the dragon was a particularly paternal figure. Not that he's spoken to the man on many occasions, he's not exactly chatty.
He tucked another pine cone into his pocket that was now bulging, "an obstacle course?" He could see one of those being set up on the grounds, hell, he'd grab a couple members of staff with certain abilities to help out with that. It'd be good for the shifter and vampire residents to let off a little steam outside too. Kelly could help, Matt to move any earth and he was quite certain that one of the groundskeepers could help with something. He looked thoughtful for those brief moments before making a small sound, "I think we'll get on something like that, sounds like a brilliant idea. In the meantime though if you ever want a challenge then ask one of the shifter's if you can hunt them down," obviously not literally hunt them, but he was certain his species could give her a decent chase.
"If I'm ever free you're welcome to try and catch me," he smirked a little at that, he knows these woods like the back of his own hand.
