Ida felt like she was getting the hang of things at this point. She had gotten help setting up a false identity so she could set up a bank account in her own name and figured out her phone. She still had a lot to learn about the modern world at least, but she had at least gotten a lot better at functioning in it the last year or so. One step at a time she supposed. Now she just needed to figure out a legit way to make money and she was golden.
Today, Ida was just enjoying the weather. She'd been to the beach earlier and gotten some more stuff for her collection. Thankfully, she had remembered to bring a bag, so the shells and trinkets she'd collected from far and wide were safe and sound while she leaned back on the bench to get some sun on her face. The siren looked up every so often as people passed by and smiled when she spotted a familiar face in the park.
"Mr. Hayes!" She called out, offering the guard a slight wave. She'd get up and move closer if it seemed he was receptive to company. Right now, it seemed best to test the waters a little. Not because she didn't appreciate the Naga, but because she respected his seeming desire for solitude

I AM THE POISON,
YOUR ANTIDOTE WON'T CURE.
It wasn't too hot today, nor was it obnoxiously cold. Damian found the temperature to be just right, and his area of choosing to enjoy this weather was decent; save the amount of people walking by, chattering amongst themselves, their families, and their friends. Damian didn't particularly care for people, let alone the human race. He would much rather spend his time amongst his own kind, curled into a nest of smooth scaled bodies instead of wearing this human flesh. The key was to blend in, survive as long as possible, but for Damian it was nothing short of a nuisance. The man leaned back on the bench, his icy blue eyes narrowed against the bright rays of the sun.
It was his off day. He'd spent the early morning hours hunting down whatever unfortunate creature crossed his path. He'd needed to fill his belly on rabbits and other small creatures. Deer was always a good meal, but he didn't want to run down the population around his house. Hunting on the school's property was convient, but he wasn't going to waste his off day driving there. The only time he bothered hunting on the grounds were doing the times he had his leopard ward tagging along. Now that his stomach was full and he was less irritable, Damian had full plans to enjoy the rest of his day.
The naga had a cigarette in his mouth when he heard the distinct female voice of Ida Radcliffe. His gaze shifted towards her and he lifted his head just a bit in greeting. I just can't have a day off.... It's almost like an infestation. He blew out the smoke and then sat up a bit. "Radcliffe." He figured he wasn't going to get away from her unless he wanted to move, so he decided to just wave her over.

Days like today, Ida didn’t miss her life on the rocks. It was pleasant to be on land and away from the waters. When it got really hot, though, she missed it terribly. Nothing was more pleasant on really warm days than to drape herself halfway across some rock in the ocean with the majority of her tail beneath the waves. Of course, it was pleasant to be in the deep waters on days like that as well, but she had usually preferred getting some sunlight. After all, winters weren’t nearly as pleasant to be on land or mingle with people. And food had usually been more scarce.
Ida enjoyed company, however, most days anyway. And the Naga was no exception. He was amusing in his cynicism and sarcasm. And reasonable too boot. So when he greeted her back and waved her over, Ida smiled and gathered up her bag before she walked over.
Sitting down next to him, Ida smiled at him. “Look at that, you do exist outside of work,” she teased. He really was the last person she had expected to see here. But she was pleased to seem him nonetheless. “How’ve you been?”

Damian hated company. In all his years he'd worked at Manson, not once had he invited a single soul that walked the grounds into his home. Nor did he accept invitations to social gatherings or parties at their homes. He always felt as though he spent enough time around them at work, regardless of whether they worked security or not. Solitude was bliss. The blue eyed male turned away as Ida gathered her things. He took one last drag of his cigarette and discarded it without a second thought. Clearly, he had no regards for littering the park despite the signs that warned of punishment. They could try and persuade him to be a better person, they could even write him a citation, but it wouldn't do any good. Damian just didn't care.
As her scent filled his nose, he looked up. "And you exist outside of water. Shall we point out more obvious facts?" It wasn't an overly cruel statement. Just your typical neighborhood Naga. He sat back, her excessive sense of pleasure about as appealing as Kaia's. Happy people irked him beyond reasonable measure. "I'm alive and breathing, so I suppose that's a plus. I now have company, so that's a negative. I suppose I'm nuetral." He glanced at her. "And what of you? I imagine you want to play catch up ?"

Had she been a nymph, fae, or somebody that was connected with nature, she might’ve been a little offended that Damian was littering. As it was, well, humans were littering her home, why couldn’t they litter their homes for a change too? She didn’t feel any kind of connection to land or sense of belonging that she felt like it was important to keep it tidy and clean. No, most humans were good for two things. Eating, and enchanting to dote on her.
“Strictly speaking, I’m existing between waters right now,” she pointed out, chuckling slightly. “On my way back from the sea.” It had been a productive trip, even if she hadn’t brought any fish back with her today, she had eaten well while she was swimming. It just seemed like it might be best to bring someone with her for her actual fishing trips. That bear, or Lyss seemed like the best options for that. Or at least have an appointment for them to meet afterwards.
“Neutral sounds alright,” she said, running a hand through her hair. She took no offense that he thought company was negative, she had realized it was just who he was. “Me? I’m good, but no, I was just wondering if you were free for drinks.” She hadn’t really been up to anything interesting since the last time they’d spoken. Playing catch up with Damian was overrated, she didn’t imagine she’d get very far. Besides, it was nice to spend time around someone who seemed utterly immune to her charms.

"And strictly speaking, I'm not bound to Manson." The Naga gave a curt nod as she spoke of coming from the sea. "Had a nice swim?" He didn't really care. He was just keeping up a conversation. He imagined she'd swam as far as she cared to go before drowning some poor sap and devouring him. The Naga had recently had quite the meal himself. A smirk formed on his face at the thought. Revenge was quite sweet.
The fact that Ida stayed around him was bothersome. He usually repelled people, but not the siren. Her company wasn't all that bad, but Damian didn't make it a habit of spending time with people. He raised a brow when she asked him about drinks. The blue eyed male looked at her. "You know you're a resident right?" He did not grab drinks with residents. "And before you try for a counterarguement that you're a trainee for music therapy, don't." As for her charm, Damian wouldn't say he was immune, just stubbornly stubborn.
Notes: I apologize for the shortness. Will do better next reply.

Ida always appreciated when she could spend the morning in the ocean. It didn’t matter to her whether she was fishing for others, treasure diving or gave in to the temptation to drown a surfer and make it look like a shark attack. Not that she’d been doing that today. Or recently at all. No, she had been treasure diving again. She wanted to get started on something for Christmas for her friends, and for that she needed more materials than she already had gathered. Just because she wasn’t planning on spending a ton of money, didn’t mean that some wouldn’t appreciate something as simply as a beautiful and somewhat exotic shell.
“Found something that reminded me of you, but I prefer to leave the sea snakes to themselves,” she said, chuckling slightly. She didn’t want to risk getting bit after all, even if she wasn’t on their menu. It just seemed best not to antagonize them. “Picked some shells, ate some really spicy food in Morocco, been an overall interesting morning.” Yeah, ok, so maybe she shouldn’t be swimming so far from Manson, but it wasn’t like she was on lockdown. She was there voluntarily and wasn’t actively a danger to people. Besides, she had her treasures there, so she couldn’t stand the thought of leaving without warning anyway.
It was impossible not to chuckle at his statement about her being a resident and trying to prevent her from using her trainee status as an argument. “You do know I’m older than you, right?” she countered instead, amused more than offended. “I can leave whenever I want, so your argument about being a resident is kind of moot. And if anyone happens to ask about it, you could merely argue you were teaching me about modern drinks, so I don’t see a problem.”

"Very funny," he responded dryly. "Wish you would have taken the same consideration when it came to the actual person." He leaned his head back some. Ida was one of the last people he expected to do any harm to him, so he could relax a bit. Not saying she wasn't dangerous in her own right, just that they seemed to have a mutual understanding of keeping claws and teeth to themselves. Damian wondered if there were any underwater caves nearby. He knew some Nagas spent their entire lives in underwater caves, but not him. He liked water, but not enough to live there. If anything he'd think it too cold and damp.
"Morocco? Just how fast can you swim?" He wondered how the administration would feel about her swimming all across the world. She was technically a resident, voluntarily or not. He shrugged it off. She wasn't one of his wards, nor living in secure ward, so she wasn't his problem. Damian opened one eye, gave a small huff, and then closed it. "Yes, I'm aware that you're older than me. We've discussed it before. It was out first meeting, but I imagine old age is getting you." He shook his head slowly. "It's not moot until you're released." He turned towards her. "Do I look like the teaching type, Ida?" Damian tilted his head just a bit. "They would smell a lie before it even left my lips." Not that anyone would give a damn. The dragon was with the fury and there were several others that found it appropriate to get intimate with the residents. He nearly shuddered. No morales.
"Are you paying, grandma?"

They had agreed that Damian could be solitary if he wished, but it didn’t mean she was going to leave him alone in public places when she saw him. Definitely not after he’d invited her over at least. Seemed rude to ignore him then. “Oh, but I like the actual person far better,” she countered. Ida didn’t mind sea snakes, but she really did prefer the Naga. She could talk to him and maybe get a response for starter. She didn’t speak snake, so the sea snakes weren’t good company. “You don’t say much, but you’re decent underneath that snark.” Damian was one of the good ones in her books, so she wasn’t going to let a little snark and grumpiness keep her away. Not when she was determined to wear him down. In the sense of making him consider her a friend that is.
“Never actually measured,” she admitted. She’d never had anyone care enough to figure it out either. “Morocco is just a stones throw away though. Didn’t even have to strain myself.” Ida knew she probably shouldn’t go on longer swims like that without approval beforehand, but she was back to the grounds before her curfew whenever she did so maybe it wasn’t so bad. “What does it matter if I spend hours at the local beach or go somewhere exotic as long as I’m back in time and don’t get spotted?” She really didn’t see the big deal about that when being spotted seemed to be Manson’s biggest concern. Not like she’d drowned anyone. And she had that magical bracelet that helped mask what she really was from humans.
Damian had principles and she had to respect that. Even if she didn’t understand what her being a resident had to do with anything. Maybe if she’d been dangerous or not allowed off the grounds, she could’ve understood it better, but when she was free to come and go she didn’t see the big deal. “Are you sure they would?” She asked, raising an eyebrow at him. There were ways he could get away with such a lie in her mind. “I mean, you seem like the kind of person to correct someone if they make the wrong choices repeatedly. Who’s to say nobody would believe you if you said I was drinking the wrong thing and needed correcting?” That wasn’t exactly the same as teaching, she was aware of that, but she also knew that it was likely as close as anyone would get to believe the Naga taught her anything.
“When you say things like that, it almost makes me think you like me,” she said, nudging him gently. She was getting used to people calling her grandma at this stage, so she found it almost endearing. “Seems only fair, since I’m disturbing you on your day off and all.”

He'd have preferred if she'd left him alone. In fact, it would have been considered a miracle if she'd disregarded his offer to join him altogether. "It was wishful thinking," he muttered. He wouldn't have seen in as rude in the least bit. "I think you've spent too much time on land. You're becoming delusional. Perhaps you should go take another dip in the sea." Aka, get lost and leave me to my peace. The man just couldn't be happy. Everyone was just a nusicance, even on a good day. The more she spoke, the more he was convinced that this was a bad dream. He'd almost said 'pinch me and wake me from this nightmare,' but he had a feeling she'd really do it. Damian didn't like people touching him. "Radcliffe, I think you need to broaden your horizons. There's nothing decent about me. The only thing under this so called 'snark' is rising irritation."
Blue eyes glanced her way again. "You must have some serious arm power," he commented as she claimed it nothing more than a stones throw away. He knew exactly what she'd meant, but he didn't have to be cooperative. Damian was just an ass at times. If she wanted to swim all around the world, who was he to dictate her actions? Now, as staff and a guard he technically was supposed to report this, but Ida was the least of his concerns. She didn't have an assigned guard, she made it back on time from her approved pass, and she hadn't caused trouble as far as he knew, so why would he go through the trouble of making it a bigger deal than it was? Damian wasn't the type to go by the book, and he wasn't going to start today. He could bend rules, sometimes break them, but he still did his job and he did it well. If Ida ever became a problem, he'd deal with it, but for the time being, no harm no foul. "No need to explain yourself to me," he told her. "You're not my problem until you become a problem."
His expression couldn't have been any more unimpressed than it currently was. "You need to brush up on your persuasion skills because they suck." Blunt as always. "If you of all people walk around drinking poison instead of an alcoholic beverage, then that sounds like survival of the fittest to me." He crossed his arms over his chest. "Tough luck getting anyone to believe I cared enough to intervene off duty." He gave a small huff. Damian did his best to avoid anyone connected to Manson on his days off. It was bad enough he had to see them five days out the week.
When she nudged him, he shuddered. There was almost a visible movement of his skin, like something lay just beneath the surface. He stood up, putting space between the two of them. "I don't like anyone. Try not to put yourself on a non-existant pedestal." He nodded towards the sidewalk.

There was something about Damian that made her want to spend more time with him regardless of how he behaved. Maybe it was the fact that he seemed immune to her natural allure, or maybe it was just that he didn’t like company. It was rare for her to meet people, unless they were gay, that had no interest in her at all and she could just be whoever she wanted to be in those moments. Didn’t matter what anyone else thought about her because she didn’t have a put on a show for anyone. “I think you’re selling yourself short,” she countered. Ida has met many indecent people in her many years, granted quite a few of them wound up being dinner, but Damian seemed for more principled in his own way than those people. Ida didn’t think someone had to be all good to be decent. The world was a lot grayer than that.
A chuckle escaped her at the comment about arm power. “Darling, it’s all in the hips and lack of legs,” she said. Arms didn’t really enter into it all that much where speed was concerned. She was pleased he wasn’t going to report her though, she figured as long as she was back when she was supposed to or told someone if she’d be late, she was fine. Besides, it wasn’t like she made a habit of swimming too far away when she did go to the beach. Mostly she went there to fish after all.
Damian was amusing to say the least. Nobody she knew would think she drank poison rather than alcohol. “Can always just say I made you,” she suggested, shrugging slightly. “Accidentally stumbled upon me on a day the magic on my vocal-chords was weaker than usual and you had no choice. I mean, had you been human, I could’ve easily just have made you have a drink with me.” She didn’t really care what he used to justify it. “Or, just go somewhere people aren’t likely to recognize you and it’s not a problem at all.” She sure didn’t see the problem, but she could give him choices if he was determined not to be spotted wit ha resident.
A slight smirk played on her lips when he said he didn’t like anyone. He seemed to like Kaia, so she didn’t believe that for a moment. But she’d let it slide for now. Getting up from the bench too, she walked over to the sidewalk, but kept an appropriate distance between them. Couple of feet seemed reasonable for his sense of privacy and personal space. “You should pick the location.”

I AM THE POISON,
YOUR ANTIDOTE WON'T CURE.
Damian wasn't immune by any means. He was just downright stubborn and refused to cross the line that kept him from interacting beyond a professional level with residents, whether they were self admitted, or placed at Manson by force. He liked his job a lot more than the faces of the residents who in a different setting would have caught his eye. Damian had insane discipline. Yes, he was a blunt, read rude..., unwilling to compromise, always itching for a fight, and damn near incapable of getting along properly with anyone he crossed, but there was some limitations in there. Damian didn't just go around starting trouble, he was blunt, but someone had to be, and if you managed to get on his good side he wasn't a half bad person to be around. See, he could be reasonable, it just took a lot of time and patience and thick skin.
"I think you're just being a suck up," he countered back. His expression remained the same, mostly placid with a hint of disgust. Damian didn't take compliments very well. He gave her a brief once over as she spoke of her hips and lack of legs, but otherwise made no comment. It wasn't a loss of words on his part. He just didn't see any point in going back and forth with the her. The topic had lost his interest.
"Still not a plausible excuse. No one makes me do anything." He gave her a sour expression. "If I ever fall for your tricks feel free to put me out of my misery before I can come to my senses." He didn't fancy being used as a tool. He had far too much pride for that. The Naga almost huffed. He might have felt a smidge offended that if she could manage to ensnare him, forcing him to have drinks with her would be her go to. "We'd have to go a bit further than this crummy little town." He gave a small shrug. "Either way it's a lose-lose situation. Drink with you and get spotted, drink with you and not get spotted. Both are equally devestating."
As they started walking, he glanced to the left and right before crossing the street. If he had to pick the spot, then he knew the place to go. It was a bit of a walk from the park, so they were going to take his car. "Before you ask, no this is not some elbaorte plan to kidnap you. The bar is too far of a walk. Feel honored that I'm not making you take a cab to meet me there." He probably wouldn't have done that to her, anyone else sure, but not her. She wasn't that far down on the shit list.

If she was asked point-blank, yeah, she would say she found Damian attractive. But since he had made it perfectly clear, on more than one occasion, that he wasn’t interested in being even friends with residents, she wasn’t actively trying to flirt with him. She was just trying to wear him down enough that he’d consider her a friend. Since she wasn’t really looking for lasting romantic relationships anyway, Ida would much rather just be friends with someone. Damian seemed like the kind of person she needed in her life to keep her grounded.
“If I were just being a suck up, I would have much more flattering things to say than that you’re decent,” she said, shrugging slightly. If she was saying things just to flatter him or try to get him to like her, there were plenty of things she could comment on. Like his figure. Or his pretty eyes, or how he was good at his job. No, she wasn’t in the mood to just lay it on him, she just figured he ought to know she thought he was a decent guy. Especially since a less decent guy might’ve tried to take advantage of her, certainly had before she went to sleep. Tried that is. And wound up dinner.
“Darling, if I had the full use of my voice, I’d never make you do anything too embarrassing, probably wouldn’t make you do anything at all. Lucky for you, I prefer you as is to trying to change you myself.” She couldn’t make friends if she was constantly using her powers on people, and in a way it was somewhat of a relief too not to have her full capabilities anymore. It meant that she could genuinely be friends with supernaturals without worrying about accidentally using her powers on them. It had been a bit of a bad habit back in the day that she hadn’t always been aware of doing. “The fact that you’re not just ditching me or driving me back to Manson says all I need to know,” she said, shrugging slightly. “You just like a good drink.” And didn’t overly mind her company, but that seemed better left unsaid.
Ida hadn’t been worried about it being a plan to kidnap her at all, the very thought of that seemed outrageous. Why would she worry about a friend kidnapping her? “Honestly, as long as there’s a lake on the other end, you can kidnap me all you want. But I do appreciate a ride,” she said, not minding getting in the car with the naga whatsoever.

I AM THE POISON,
YOUR ANTIDOTE WON'T CURE.
He was far from being a role model, so it was probably in everyone's best interest that Ida hadn't voiced the 'keeping her grounded' part aloud. The man would have stared at her like she was crazy. Damian Nyle Hayes keep someone grounded? Now that was laughable. Insane really. It was a wonder he'd ever found companionship in his life. Then again he'd been younger back then, more tolerant. Age and experience had changed him. So what was the excuse for a few years back? He didn't have one. It was in the past and Damian intended to keep it that way.
"I fall short when it comes to flattery, so you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject. I'm far more used to being called indecent amongst other things." He cranked the car and rolled down the windows. Today was one of the 'perfect days' were you could roll around with the windows down. "Feel free not to give me an example though. I don't think my brood personality could take it." He shifted gears and pulled out of the parking lot.
Her next statement did surprise him a little. Apparently he didn't know Ida very well, not that he'd tried very hard either. He had truly been under the impression that if she could have used her voice to it's fullest extent that she'd get her way without a moment's hesitation. He'd been caught off guard knowing she preferred him as is. Most people didn't. The Naga didn't know how to feel about that. It was all a little confusing. In turn, it was the reason he'd reached for the volume and turned up the radio just a bit. Nice little distraction.
He gave an audible huff as she continued to speak. "You're welcome," was all he said.

Before she had gone to sleep, Ida knew she wouldn’t have given Damian the time of day. Hell, she would probably not be allowed outside as much as she was if she’d been brought to a place like Manson. It just hadn’t been in her anymore to be patient and caring. She’d been used far too many times or only appreciated for her looks and nothing else. Maybe what Damian needed was just a good nap and he’d be a little more tolerable for most people, but Ida kind of recognized parts of who she’d been in the man. While she didn’t want to turn back the clock and be that person again, she also didn’t feel like she could judge Damian for who and how he was. Everyone needed someone who could accept them for just who they were.
“Sounds like most people don’t appreciate you being yourself,” she commented. Then again, she was older than most around Manson it seemed and had experienced a time when indecency was much more prevalent than today. At least towards pretty women. She’d been mistaken for a prostitute more than once in her lifetime. But then Damian cranked up the volume and she didn’t say much more after that, aside from letting him know she appreciated a ride. It seemed like he would prefer the silence and she would do her best to accommodate that.
That said though, she did have a hard time not humming along to whatever was playing. She couldn’t really help herself though, she could practically see the music as she listened to it. It was just a big part of her being. It was really the closest to sitting in silence she could get with music playing though and she wanted to not annoy Damian with talking or asking questions until they arrived at least.
